ok, behind the spam here, there is a legitamate question, what is Game Smith and why wasnt it released. I can't help on the second question, but I think that I can help clear up the first.
from what I understood, Game Smith was supposed to be a similar product to Game Ranger with a key difference namely that it was integrated into the game(as a library if memory serves). This gives Game Smith several advantages: less memory over head, less problems with one of the 2 programs hogging all the bandwith, the game designers can sustomize the interface, ect.
And that is all I know about it. I hope that helped clear things up.

I really don't think that GameSmith will ever come out, I think that he planed to get it out to early, and now he is in over his head, my guess is that he will just drop it, but we'll see.

Ok well I emailed support today asking if there was a release date and what was going on. It seems to be only for os X but I asked that also in the email.

No, it works in OS9, but perhapes they've had to delay, maybe X.2 has some change that they have to modify the programing, or maybe something about the cross-platform got messed up.
I was reading ont he freeverse site news and it said that it was relased in preview stage at MWNY. Ill quote for you:
"GameSmith Preview Release 1, the seemless cross platform community and game-matching service brought to you by Freeverse and IFD.com, in association with MacGamer.com is available now. With a beautiful, OS X optimized interface, server side ranking, and utilizing the latest Apple Technology, GameSmith is one of the biggest things to happen to Mac Gaming in 2002."
So I don't understand where it is...

Ok guys I emailed them.
Infection- Hey, what happened to gamesmith coming out at macworld this summer? Is a release still planned. ?Also is gamesmith only for mac osX and will it cost money to have? ?It looks really cool and could you just tell me when it's coming out.
Gamesmith-It did happen, it was just overshadowed. Also, we found that everyone
(developer wise anyway) wants a seperate browser app (ala GameSpy and
GameRanger) instead of building the browser in (our first design).
Anyway, GS will not cost money to have. We hope to have the standalone
app out in 6 weeks.
So six weeks guys.

if you read the development notes on the gamesmith site, they say that it's accessed only through the games. they said they could then set up advertising by publisher, so the user is seeing ad's by that game's publisher while using gamesmith.
so, i suspect that there is a new game out there with gamesmith functionality. also, there is a new link on their site to see the preview, but it was giving me a connection error.

as i read through grifts mail and notes on macclans, i saw that both he and a few others (who i wont name, since they didn't want it getting out from grifter) knew about this quite a while ago. so it would shock me if kevill didn't. things like this don't stay secret within the development community for long.
the question is, why do you think it would bother evill? since we haven't seen it yet. it's not like banned people or may others have ever gone over to mag, which has always been an option. if his product is better, people will still use it.

yes, this is true, but what if GS is better than gr(less lag less bans, ect.) then ppl will leave GR and force evill to make his product better.
i couldn't care less which game service someone uses, as long as there are 2 competion will (hopefully) drive both to be better.

if gs is better then gr, then it is better, and we, the consumer are better off for it. but until something actually effects the number of users on gr, that would, in turn, effect the business that evill is doing, i don't see why he should be pissed about it.
as for the lag or bans. the only lag i've ever seen on gr was the early tests of gr3. and bans, all i have to say about those is i hear or read about a few of the same people getting banned. and from what i've read, they have all deserved it from evill's point of view. honestly, how many people here have actually had a perma ban or other long term ban? 4 or 5 out of the hundreds of members to this board. how many of those didn't deserve it? there are things that evill could do better (there are things that everyone can do better). like posting more news on the web site, and keeping the server up more (not a big problem, but was in the past). and these are things that good competition could bring about.
but for as much bitching as so many people do about evill and gr, none of you are using mag, which has been around for years. you aren't paying for gr, you aren't helping gr, and gr obviously isn't pissing most of you off enough to use other game services. so why do so many of you bitch so much about it?
i've only talked to evill once, and that was when grifter passed away. some of you said he's rude or an ass, but i've been on gr for 20 months or so, and never talked to the guy until two weeks ago. and then it was for him to just say a few kind words about grifter. so if you don't like talking to him, don't. seems pretty easy to avoid from my point of view.

Yeah, I knew about Game Smith a longtime ago...the guys working on it asked me to help them test some stuff and give them suggestions on it (*wonders if they used any of them*). Anyway, if GameSmith comes out as planned, look for GameRanger to die out if Kevill doesnt clean up his act.
Deadeye: On Evill...most people were pissed at him (Grift and I included) because of his double standards in terms of banning and answering questions. Evill and his cronies would site the ToS when banning people often (when it related to them) and then when we would site the ToS (say someone is impersonating us) he and his cronies would ignore us or tell us to shut up. Hell, one time that prick banned ME for trying to get someone to change his/her name.
Also, as Grifter pointed out numerous times previously on the forums, whenever you tried to ask him a question, he would try to blow you off. GR3 (OSX GR) was "announced" for about a year before he even gave us a glance at it. It would say on the release "check back for more updates coming soon" yet in nearly a year, nothing would get posted. So Grifter and I would sometimes ask him about it and get ridiculed by Evill and his brown-nosers.
Anyway, in conclusion, yes it is easy to stay away from Evill. That is why I moved the PsYcO's into the rooms away from the Construct (namely B&G) and soon the rest of the RS community followed. (SWAT was already previously in the cubical)

Well it appears that this GameSmith will also be used for Windows...which means that if this online community is activated...(im assuming chat/game hosting/etc...the conveniences of gr) we will be interfaced with pc users...OH MY...expect some humongous conflicts of interest...PLUS...this will definetly cut out all the hackers out there with pirated games as it requires a specific game id provided by the PAYED for software....OH and don't forget the ADS...gr doesn't have annoying ads...but this gamesmith will have them integrated...so that when you sign on..you'll be attacked by ads ranging from "increasing your penis size" to "YOU"VE JUST WON ONE MILLION DOLLARS".........I'm sticking with GR no matter how fucked up evill is or how the program runs....
