Well, as some of you may know, I've been trying to get back on active duty since the terrorist attack of September 11.  They have repetedly refused to let me back on active duty because I've been out too long (I received an Honorable Discharge on Sept 18, 1998).

I've recently found a way to get back into the military, but only by joining one of the Reserve branches of the military.  Since I can't stand the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard....that leaves only the Reserve branches of the Army and Air Force.  I served 4 years on active duty in the Army, from 1990 to 1994....and then 4 years on active duty in the Air Force, from 1994 to 1998.  So I know these two branches well, and I could go into a similar career field in either one of them if I went back (Special Forces/Airborne/Rangers/Radio Communications in the Army or Flight Operations/Combat Controller in the Air Force).  So, which should I choose?

I voted for the die option because it is the silly answer (not silly literally obviously, but just in its inclusion.)

I figure you'd be the better judge of what to join. I think I'd lean towards the Navy if I were to consider service. In a different world I could see myself joining the forces...one where I trusted the commander in chief and one where the military didn't discriminate against homosexuals (I'm not gay but I'm a gay rights activist.)

Anyway, I won't even begin to hold your service against you...I will however hold your support for Bush against you. Wink

Wow, you sometimes really surprise me Six.  Just when I think I've seen some really crazy post from you, I see something really well thought out like that.  Wink

Don't worry guys....I'm just going into the Reserves, and the particular units I am looking at joining probably won't be getting activated anytime soon.  Besides, I will probably be utilized more in a training role to help get the younger guys proficient in their jobs.  Me actually seeing combat again is very very slim.

And yes, BFG....and Bobby....I have already seen combat (Kosovo), so I do know what I'm talking about when I speak about war.

Crypt not meaning to be offensive in any way but  if you want to do something valuable with your life or be of real use to your country why dont you get out there and educate yourself, learn about the world and the people that live in it rather than spend a chunk of your life learning how to kill them?

bah kids always wanted to do stuff like being a sheriff or a pilot or superman, and once they grow old, they realize it was just a dream.

I happen to think that serving your country in their military is one of the most noble professions a person can choose to do.  Just because you don't think so, you shouldn't hinder someone else's desire to do so.  And, the military isn't just about killing people...there are far more non-combat jobs than combat jobs.  It is a way for a person to get a great education (they will pay you to go to college, as they did for me), learn skills that you can use in civilian life, and it also teaches discipline and will help you later in life in more ways than you can imagine.  My military service, the lessons it taught me, and the discipline I gained from it, are the reasons I have done so well in life.[/size]
