I don't know if this is gonna take effect soon, but i heard evill saying "he's been always thinking of charging for gr". Just last night (early early morning of 9/11) a rumor aroused some people of evill charging for using GamerAnger(i should of copied the chat but was too tired and forgot). No specifics on how or what he's going to charge, but if this is true...WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO RS!??! i mean, will you guys pay to use gr? or would fine some alternate way to get your daily dose of rs???

oh and today...gr server has been timing out...an attack on america.....conspiracy? coincidence?

ELECTRONICJO IS TEH DEVIL.....

with that said, I'd pay if it weren't too high a price.  I't just like any other service.  As long as he wasn't charging anything outragous, why not?  I mean, $2 or $5 dollars a month wouldn't be a high price to pay (less then a movie a month, and everyone in this forum probably spends more then 90 minutes a month in GR.

However, I'd also expect service to go up a notch.  No more unscheduled outages for 2 weeks, with no service or even an note as to what was going on.  Also, I would think that if he charges, that banning people would pretty much have to go away (except for permabans for violations of the TOS)

Now, if it's overpriced, or if it's priced high, but the service isn't there.... then I'd seek alternate sources (see all the threads from the last time GR went down).  I know that GR is down right now, and if it stays down, or if another alternative isn't available, I will put up a Hotline server, just for people to chat and set up RS games......  It's a bit of a pain, having to post your IP address to host, but it's better then nothing.  And if everyone meets at one Hotline server... then all the chat will be up (with boards and files too).  Just a thought in case of the worst.

Evill has been thinking about charging for a while now, just go to About GameRanger... under the apple menu "freeware subject to change."

i agree with grift about paying a low price for it if we had to, but all the unreasonable banning would definatly have to go, and evill and the other admins couldnt have there banning fun. i once saw evill do this

<< CIA?Romulus has been disconnected (Retard: banned) >>

That's happened to me, over one comment... And Evill wasn't the person that did it (he wasnt online)

The comment (question, rather) was about some hardwear, and the ass-hole admin was getting pissed cuz i asked 2 times! (3rd time = baned)

I think that Kevil need's to chose better admins!

Best of luck,
Romulus

? ? Now have you ever, EVER seen a PC mplayer site ban people or even charge people to PLAY online?!?! wtf?!?! Is it not enough that we buy these games (well some of us buy these games; stupid pirates, which i am STRONGLY against) ?and then have to pay to play them online?! wut kind of shit is that?! lol its gonna be a mass craze for PCs just because of games....

? ? Even more so, y would i want to pay money every month or even EVERY year just to play some stupid game. ?I'm honestly not interested in paying for a "GAMING" service, even if its "cheap", ?just so Evill can become rich off of my enjoyment for playing games online?! Ha, I don't think so....

Viper....  let's face it, it costs money to do what evil does... hardware, bandwidth, development costs for upgrading software... etc.

He probably doesn't make crap off banners.... or click throughs on his buy it (has anyone actually ordered through GR?).  So, if he isn't making enough to cover his expenses.... I have no problem helping out.  I don't know, and won't pretend to know how he makes cash from GR today..... but I do know that it has to cost a bit of coin to keep it operating.  There's also buzz that he gets kick backs from the game publishers.... who knows.  So, if it is ever a choice between paying a reasonable fee for GR, or it going under..... I'll pay.  Shit, I get more enjoyment out of this then I do most movies I've seen of late, and I pay more then I should to go see them.

By reasonable... I mean something in the $50 / year or less catagory.  Let's face it, if you can't afford $5 / month..... how did you even pay for the games?  Let's face it, there are not many people that will, for their on enjoyment, go through the work and financial load of hosting a site like the one here that Mauti does.  Now, imagine how much more work it would be for GR.... how much more it would cost....

As for PC's, Games and MPLAYER.... so what.  Apple has never been a gaming platform.  I wonder how many people out there bought a Mac just to play games on (they would land in the realm of DUMBASS CENTRAL).  Apple may sell a few more machines if there are more gamming titles available, but they aren't gonig to lose market share for games, since they don't have any to lose on that front.  I know, I know, you are just venting a little frustration at the state of Mac gaming....  but I'm just your daily dose of reality.

GRIFT, you have taken the words out of my mouth. I doubt Evill makes much, if anything, off of GR, something he has obviously put much time into. If he wants to charge a reasonable fee, I'll pay. I think this is a moot point because I doubt he will charge at all.

On an interesting side note, GR has seemed to have become the official online gaming extension of Apple. What does this mean? I have no clue, just throwing it out there.

I''m glad GR is becoming the "official gaming extension of apple." More people, which means more dumbasses and more newbies, but also more talent, which is needed.

As for basic free, I don't even HAVE GR on my home computer... won't affect me.

Apple would announce any "official" alliance between GR and themselves, however the fact that apple is promoting GR on their site and developers are including GR with their games is, as mort said, good.

More people, more games, more competition, etc.

Would I pay for GR? Yes, but as Grift said, only after service has been improved a bit.
