Ace - I am aware. I like the movie, and that is[i/] my current favorte quote. Once I re-watch The Matrix this weekend I think I will have a new quote.

Rom, a quick note about th3 current th3 sp0t poll..

"Modem" speed is not determined by the type of internet connection you have. It should be.. Internet Connection speed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but typical DSL and Cable modems do not determine the amount of your bandwidth.. they may regulate it in some way.. but they don't wholy determine that...

How about:

14.4k or lower
28.8k
56k
500 kbps
1 mbps
1.5 mbps
Over 1.5 mbps

As it is, I can answer truthfully to DSL, Ethernet And T1, as my connection is as fast as a T1 line.

"Eithernet" is in no way a determining factor in your speed.. I have a friend who has 8 computers hooked up to a 56k modem.. (well, through a router and hub, of course, if you want to be technical) I also know of a computer lab at a nearby school that has around 30 G3s hooked up to a very slow modem..

It almost makes you want to cry.....
Rom, do everyone here a favor and READ A BOOK!  Please, do not use this forum to gain the little computer knowledge that you have....

I mean, Wrathy was actually kind about this.  You do know that ISDN comes in TWO SPEEDS, don't you?  (do you even know what it stands for without looking it up??).  You know that DSL comes in many flavors (ADSL, XDSL, SDSL) all with different speeds and speed is effected by distance from CO...  You also know that different Cable companies cap the speeds?  Or that nobody connects to the internet over EITHERNET?!?  (not since the public was allowed on they haven't and are you talking 10bT, 100bT, etc).  Also, T1 and T3 lines can be SHARED and SPLIT.

If you want to know how peole CONNECT to the internet, that's one thing.  If you want know speed, that's another.  Speed and connection type are not the same thing.  I've been in buildings with T1 connections that were as slow as a 56k modem.  Speed is all about the bottleneck. If you have 10 people connecting through a 5 port hub to a 128k SDSL all working, the guy on his lone 56k modem is likely to be faster.  Change that Hub to a Switch, and it may go the other way now.  Use an old machine as your firewall and proxy server between the T1 and it's 100 users and it may be faster to dial up to AOL.

You may as well be asking "which is faster, Cable or DSL?"  There is no right answer for this.  It's all in how the network is set up.  What physical limitations there are both in the home and with the ISP.

A great example, since @Home went out of business, many here have experienced a huge decline in the performance of our cable modems....  including me (I haven't been able to host a decent game in weeks now).  Since the network has been rerouted, people that used to ping me at 40ms are now getting 200ms, while others got a better connection out of it (and on a personal note, I think Comcast has also capped the U/L limit, or at least restricted it more then it was).  So, for all those guys out there that complain about "I can't lag, I'm on cable".... YES YOU CAN.

Sorry for those of you that could care less... I had another rant in me trying to get out....

Just as there are different kinds of DSL, you forgot that there are different kinds of 56k GRIFT. Like an actual 56k or my piece of shit AT&T glorified 14.4.

Also, Ethernet, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good. I got about 1 meg a sec downloading from Apple the other day just to make you guys feel bad. I consider it payback for the two cups and a string I had at home.

if you don't talk about that, I wont talk about those six strands of fiberoptics I just had run at work....

BTW, two of these strands is about the bandwidth of a T3 connection....

Thank you all for your comments. I knew all the info though, and really could care less. Grifter, I read enought - about 1,000 pages a week, maybe more. If I am not mistaken, the ISDN speeds are 64(8?)k and 128k. I might be wrong, but I dont really care. I didnt mention firber on the poll, because few people have it. Maybe I should have titled it 'What is your modem speed/type?' eh? Well, its a new week, and a new poll will be posted soon. In the future, please reply in Th3 Sp0t's forums about Th3 Sp0t related stuff. That would make more sense.

Yes, yes I do. ?It's a very pretty shiny silvery colour. ?You'll like that too. ?And it has little lights that blink, and a screen you can see stuff on. ?However, from looking at the images, they don't even touch the scans I do from my 645 negs. ?*sigh*. ?
It'll be good for the cookie-cutter stuff, or for use as a compositional tool before I shoot film- however, the way to go with digital right now is to still shoot film and then do high-res scans. ?I guess it depends on what you ultimately want (and how much you want to pay).

And it's "foto". ?Not "photo" or "F0t0" or any other misspelling you lot can come up with. ?God, that took me back to my days of being "PhOtOgEeK" on IRC in the early nineties. ?Yuk.

Maybe he was saying you are plagiarising your content (as opposed to site because it is quite clear that you did before even  if it is changed now).  Personally I don't know where you'd find that shit to plagarise, anyway, touting your own site is spamming and we really should delete those posts but it would take to much time to get all 200 of them throughout the forums.

Bondo, you should know that Rom couldn't copy those articles.... that's where the shitty journalism comment came in.  No, the plagiarism comment was ment about the copy of Mauti's code that Rom admitted to once upon a time, but now denies ever happened..... kinda like he couldn't have been cheating if he lost....  yeah, just keep riding that short yellow bus to school Rom... they let you say whatever they want in the classes for special students.

Anyway, I wouldn't know if it's changed.... because I haven't been there in so long (lucky me).  BTW, where are those big deals that were in the works... you know, with MAG and "those other clients"Huh  Bah, this is a waste of my time.
