Detroit, where the weak are killed and eaten

So, as many of you know, I've been irate at the whole "Ghost Recon will never come to the Mac" comments... so, being a man of action, I wrote MacSoft on that and a few other questions... ?and funny enough, they answered! ?Here's how they responded:

    1) Are there any plans to make Rainbow 6 or Rogue Spear OS X compatable? ?Rogue Spear is the number one game on the macintosh game servers "GameRanger", but it's levels are dropping off with OS X's growing popularity.

I'm afraid not. Creating OSX native versions of these would not be a trivial matter and, there is limited time left on our license to sell these.

    2) Are there any plans, or is MacSoft even considering publishing the new game Ghost Recon, which is the latest installment of the Rainbow 6 line?

Again, no. Red Storm Entertainment is now owned by Ubisoft. Ubisoft will not license rights to MacSoft.

    3) For the new titles shipping this spring, are they OS X compatable? ?I couldn't find that info on your site.

Yes. All of our titles going forward will be OSX compatible.[/list]

So, bad news (RS and R6 will never see OS X support, but no real surprise there), good news (all future releases from MacSoft will be OS X compatable), and NO NEWS (since UbiSoft owns Red Storm, and wont liscense to MacSoft, it means it's either up to UbiSoft to port over an OS X version or to liscense it to someone else).

Net out... Since MacSoft is the bigest mac game publisher, and they are out of the Ghost Recon running, either UbiSoft will deliver us something (which they are not really talking about, but you can guess who my next e-mail will be to) or it will probably be a long time before one of the smaller companies that would port Ghost Recon will have the balls to do it. ?Here's wishing for UbiSoft!!

Just figured I'd share, even though this is no big news.

See? I told everyone. We'll never see Ghost Recon any time soon. By the time we do, it will be as old as R6 or RS was when they came out.. (a year and a half old)

A year or 18 months out would be normal... even if painful.  Remember, even if they decided TODAY to port Ghost Recon over.... it would take 9 months or more to do it... porting code is not that fast... especially when Ghost Recon was done with things like Direct X etc...

So, while it sucks being on the back half of the gamming community... it would be better to get Ghost Recon in another year then not at all.

    Vipe,

Pardon my french (well, gutter english), but FUCK Comcast.  I ordered a business line DSL on Monday.  512kbs SDSL.  Hosting will be much better on that network (since even at it's best, Comcast only had 256kbs upload).  Now, just have to wait for the install (anywhere from 5 to 40 days, depending on if they chose to run a new phone line).

If you dad can front the extra cash, I'd recomend he jump ship too...

Ya, that's still business DSL, and my dad would be a no go... he does nothing but use IE and answer email anyway that he would have no reason to move on to something faster cuz he think's its fast right now.... He doesn't even upload shit so he could care less  Cool

If I even have to surf the web without cable I get pissed off, 56k is only good for chucking around, not for connecting to anything.

Thanks for checking up on this, Grifter.
I just sent an email to Ubisoft too, so let's see if we can't startle some sort of response out of them -
