"Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) let his mouth race ahead of his brain Wednesday night at a gathering of Young Democrats at the Washington nightspot Acropolis. After presidential candidate Howard Dean spoke, Kennedy delivered an impassioned peroration against President Bush's tax cut. We hear that Kennedy told the crowd: "I don't need Bush's tax cut. I have never worked a [bleeping] day in my life." With that he got the audience's attention -- the dropping-jaws kind. "He droned on and on, frequently mentioning how much better the candidates would sound the more we drank," a witness told us. "Finally, he had to be stopped by a DNC volunteer." Kennedy's spokesman, Ernesto Anguilla, told us yesterday: "He was talking to the crowd; it was a rally-the-troops kind of speech about the tax cut. He was energizing the crowd and got caught up in it and used an unfortunate word."

I love the idea of alcohol plus public speeches by politicians. It's not like they would make less sense in most cases (since they usually have the ratio of 45 minutes of speaking per one minute of non-bullshit).
Think of how much honesty we would hear (just like the "I haven't worked a fucking day in my life" comment). Let's have the next debate on The Man Show, where they have to slam a beer before every point. Now that's a debate I'd find irresistible.

No, no, the really funny part is that his spokesman isn't apologizing for the "I never worked a day in my life" content, but instead, for the presence of the four-letter word. It's also amusing that apparently everyone who heard him say it had the same reaction.

A Kennedy who hasn't worked a day in his life made a comment he regrets while he was drunk.
And I'm supposed to be surprised?

I never liked Ted Kennedy too much. The guy is a joke trying to be like his (now dead) brothers.

Give the guy a break Cossack. If you had to follow in those footsteps, you'd be drunk all the time too. What am I saying, you are drunk all the time =D.
Hell, if I had two brothers that had both been assassinated due to their politics, and I was a politician too, I can understand needing a little liquid courage. Add to that he's of Irish decent, and daddy was a bootlegger, and it's a wonder he still has a liver.

Kennedy is at the very least amusing. He represents the worst possible stereotype of a Democrat - Bostonian, drunk, upper-class, family monied windbag. Yet he still manages to be the most important liberal on capitol hill. My hats off to the man.

Dusty, old, dead. Well, if the shoe fits.
Actually, I liked to watch Strom. It was like watching my 100 year old great-grand-mothers. Always entertaining.

Hey, except for his annoying penchant for charts and graphs, and some huge fucking ears, I liked Ross. Compared to our choices today, he'd probably make a better leader in 2004 then the rest of these guys. The thing I have to hand to him is that he'd do what he set out to do, and be up front about it. And being an independent, he could play congress off itself if he's shrewd (and if his business success is an indicator, he is). Not that he's running or anything.
And yes, it is fun, no matter how easy, to make fun of the people out there on the fringes.
Since there's no real topic for it, I may as well tell it here too. I'm going to a Pro Choice rally this week. Hopefully, they'll let me ask some nice pointed questions =D. I'll most likely get to hear their same old BS, but who knows, maybe they'll say something new. Think my first question will be: "if it takes two to make a baby, why should it only take one to unmake it?" Then when they pull the ProLife BS, I can point out how not supporting ProChoice doesn't make someone ProLife, etc. Should be fun. I doubt they'll listen, but it's going to be very interesting to see how they take a thought out argument.

Speaking of Drunk Politicians, our Ted Kennedy former President Boris Yeltsin got up on a conductors podium fucking drunk as all hell and conducted the Berlin Philoharmonic infront of International Press Corp. It was rather funny.

I think the vast majority of the posters here are Democrats. At least the ones that support a party. Then there are a few of us that are true GDI's, (even if we are accused of being Libertarians).

Bucc: I already know conservative opinions that you hold, now name a Democratic or Green position or two that you agree with. Not saying there isn't one, just curious.
BTW this prompt goes for anyone else who considers themself a "GDI".

I'll note here that you pull "Conservative" then "Democratic" or "Green". Nice of you to go from ideology to political party, when I don't agree. I think the democrats are just as bad as the Republicans, and who cares about the Greens. I couldn't even tell you exactly where the hell the Green's sit on any particular issue.
I'm a moderate. I see things on both sides of the fence. I'm against abortion as it stands today, but I'm also against the death penalty. My feelings on tax match the Libertarians more then anyone else (and aren't conservative in the least) as well as my feelings on gun control. However, unlike the Libertarians, Republicans or Democrats, I'm for a smart ecology.
I'm not Pro Life, and I sure as hell am not Pro Choice. I don't believe in the Death Penalty, but I do believe prison is supposed to be punishment as much as rehabilitation. I believe that our ecosystems need to be watched over and managed properly, but that doesn't mean no logging old growth trees. I believe that Bush and the government went to war for the wrong reasons, but I believe that the war was still right for other reasons. I'm between them. Moderate. Hence the title.
But face it, both Democrats and Republicans are pawns to special interest groups, just some are different (and some aren't).
Really Tasty, you should know better then to angle me into the political systems. I don't agree with Republicans any more often then I agree with Democrats. Besides, if I were to label you, as you have me so often, I'd point you out as a member of the American Socialist Party, not a Democrat.

Label me what you want. I don't have the aversion to them you do - whether someone wants to call me a Democrat, a liberal, a Green, a Socialist, or a Fifth Column Commie-Rat Pinko, that's fine with me. I think Democrats suck too. It's sad to me that liberals like myself have to choose between voting for pathetic democrats and completely losing elections to conservatives. My views are pretty socialistic most of the time, you would be correct to point me out as one. However, I have the tortured position of being a Democratic Socialist, as I cannot support any sort of socialist regime that gained power by any means other than democratic elections. I am just as party-independent as you, but I do stick pretty closely to one particular viewpoint. I will vote whoever I think will advance the system closest to the way I want it, be that Green, Democrat, or Socialist.
In the current field of Democratic candidates, the only one whose view really appeal to me is Dennis Kucinich. I agree with his stance on literally every single issue. However, he just isn't in a position where he is considered a viable candidate, so I'll be forced to support someone like Howard Dean, who has some liberal views but some views with which I disagree. If he didn't win the Democratic primary, I probably wouldn't even bother to vote Democrat and would vote Green or Socialist instead.
But anyway, you see my point about your viewpoints, don't you? Looking at platforms of liberal politicians, the only issue that you might merge with them on is removing the death penalty. Most Democrats actually support it, but they aren't really liberals, which is the real issue here (liberal vs conservative, not Democrat vs Republican). I don't know what you mean by "smart ecology", but from your expressed opinions on the issue of logging I'm fairly sure that it is not the same as the traditional liberal view of conservation. You may be a true independent, but you are not a true moderate - a true moderate has several viewpoints on both ends of the political spectrum, not one.
