Tell me your instrument of choice, your skill level, how long you've been playing, what you like to play (style, groups) and who are your favorite inspirational artists.
I play bass (ibanez [http://www.ibanez.com/sr4/]), i've been playing bass for 2 years, began on lessons like any good musician should. I play alot of funk type music with more complex bass lines but i also play alot of alternative/hardcore music with my band. My favorite artists, skill wise, would be: Victor Wooten (bella fleck and the flecktones), Les Claypool (Primus), and Peanut (311). Most people don't realize peanuts skill, but if you see him live, it shows. weeee.

French Horn, 10 years. As for skill level, going into 9th grade I was probably top 10 in the state (in terms of High School). I had made Principal Horn in a Youth Chamber Orchestra for people 14-22 years old (or so). Then I got my braces and I was just a good horn player but no longer in the running for All-State Band and other such things. Braces are pretty much the worst thing to have as a horn player because it completely screws up your lips taking away precision, endurance, and range. Still, I was second chair horn in my HS band which is one of the top 25 in the nation so it wasn't like I sucked.

Ditto Bondo, except I'm infintely cooler because -
1. I don't have braces
2. I've only been playing for 5 years
3. I quit high school band
4. I play backup for our school's show choir. . .think 40 or so girls. . .half a dozen band members
5. I PLAY TRUMPET!
That said, at this point I'm trying to get a little of every genre. I still play some concert band music with a local community group, I like symphonic stuff as well. Show tunes are fun, but probably my favorite stuff is big-band, swing, and jazz trumpeting.
I play piano as well, also for the last 5 years. But enough listing my resum?, though I think I'm pretty good there too. Mostly I've just been playing classically on piano.

Too many jokes that wouldn't be funny at all. Way to avoid it with an even worse joke Ace. Glad to see you wanted to make an on-topic contribution to this thread. Maybe you should do your job as moderator and delete your post.

Ahh, Bronto, just like me. I've been playing bass for about 3-4 years now. I'm self taught though. I've been listening to Primus since I was in like 3rd grade, and I finally decided to play bass cuz of Les. I thought Claypool was really good, and he is, but then I started listening to Victor Wooten. That guy is insanely good. That song "Classical Thump" blows me away. I just started listening to 311 a few weeks ago, cuz my drummer friend is making me. haha. Definately a good bass player, but I haven't seen 311 live yet. I was in an experimental funk band about a year ago for a month, until me and the drummer left to start our own band. We never did start a band, but we're still working on it. lol. Probably gonna start a prog rock band or something. Other good bassists to listen to: Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham(inventor of slapping), Jaco Pastorius.

I know a good french horn joke, but it's pro-horn and only funny to band geeks. Nevermind.

There was this one joke where it talks about different sections and how they think they are gods and why they aren't...then for the horns it says, and they actually are. All the horn jokes talk about how arrogant they are (but seeing as it is the most difficult instrument to play in a Band or Symphony (this being up to opinion I suppose but the Horn is said to be the hardest more than any other instrument I've heard given that title) I suppose it is fitting).

Holy shite. forgot about pastorius. damn fool i am. didnt think anyone would know who i was talking about when i mentioned wooten, so many ignorant people here who listen to linkin park. my dad listened to bella fleck alot and i never liked all the banjo shite, regaurdless of skill. but on one of the live albums i heard wooten do a solo and i crapped my pants. ive been listening to wooten before claypool. i never really attempted to play any pastorious due to the fretlessness. lolz. but classical thump is amazing, and whats even more amazing is that my friend cladio who is a year older then me plays it *perfectly*. hes awesome, ill post the link to their bands site when i find it.

Yeah, fretless is hard. I've fooled around with them at guitar stores, but I haven't bought one yet. Next on my list though. I've been starting to learn Classical Thump, it's more mind over matter really. Its intimidating, but I'll probably get it down in a month or two. Just gotta build up my chops a bit.

heh jeb, i made one ten times better then that with a monkey shitting on his head, but i dont have it anymore. i sent it to him maybe he still has it.
yea, i could probably get some of classical thump down, like the very very first part lol. its so fast i'd die. i think i should get a 5 string, 4 just doesn't work for me anymore.

If you get a 5, ya might as well get a 6. I'm still using 4 stringers right now, but I'll probably get a 6 stringer once I get really bored.
