No, that would be just silly, we'll have a football thread by then. BTW, Colorado will own in college football this year.

Painful... don't talk to me about painful... There is a reason that UofM sells out 111,000 plus every single game and the Pontiac Pussycats are building a smaller stadium (at least they are moving back downtown). ?Painful is watching the draft choiced the Lions make.. let alone the games.
Oh, and don't be foolish, it didn't take until football season.. did it?

Which other year did they win, I know they won last year and then with Laetner and Hill in '92. Maybe I should have said in 11 years if they won in '91 (UNLV?). Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong about these things.

No need to say sorry to me... my comment about your long winded post was sarcasim... Everyone is welcome to their opinion guy... even duke fans. As long as you don't say anything bad about Bobby Knight, then I'd have to kill you. Honestly.. I don't care much for college hoops... too many greedy shits that leave school early and just treat it as a minor league step to move to the pro's. I've always been against Prop 48, and all it stands for. Acadamic admissions should be the same for all students, athletes or not. College basketball is the bigest offender. Football is bad, but not quite as bad.
And I've always wondered... why do so many people follow, cheer, and purchase so much behind college athletics when they never attended the school (many of them never went to college). Too bad college athletics isn't about colleges anymore.

ok grif and i like bobby knight too: one of my favorite quotes
"When my time on earth is passed
and my activities here are complete
I want them to bury me upside down
so my critics can kiss my ass"
and you did see in my long winded post how Duke doesn't let in bad students due to basketball skill
ok well I'm done talking about this subject
can we let this thread die down considering basketball is almost over and college has been over forever.

first and foremost, I'm an ass. I wear this title proudly, especially here with so many young'ins who can't seem to type a complete sentence.
infection, the bottom line is this; anyone who claims that Maryland are a bunch of craps who got lucky because certain teams got knocked out don't know anything about college basketball or more particularly, ACC basketball.
Again, Maryland won fair and square and beat plenty of great teams to do so in both the regular and post-season. Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, UConn, NC State, Indiana, Princeton, Temple, Illinois; they all were defeated by the Terps.
Is Maryland is best team ever? No.
Is Maryland going to win again next year? Probably not.
Did Maryland EARN their title? Yes. That's what matters.
Grift, I agree. However, the appeal of college sports to many is the fact that you're rooting for a team that isn't simply the team from your hometown, rather a team from a place you were a part of for a couple of years.

Oh, that's the one place I do get it Blackie. I still cheer for WMU, MSU and UofM (WMU the most, since that was my undergrad and where I played ball... Go Bronco's!!). I just don't get the people that have never gone to college and yet are the bigest fanatics about them.... ie, a few uncles of mine that go to every UofM game and spend lots of hours and cash on anything UofM... but never attended any college... what motivates all these people? I have a big bitch against colleges where students can't go to games because too many people not in the university want tix... Hell, at WMU all students were given free tickets to all events... just had to show up with the student ID a week before the event to pick up your free ticket. Then they sold the left overs (BTW, not as good a team for sure, but more students at WMU then UofM). I just hate how College athletics aren't about the colleges themselves... but the allmighty dollar...

Hey Grift, I have gone to Northern Colorado (a D2 and soon do be D1-AA team) and now go to CU-Colorado Springs (a D3 team). Is it wrong for me to cheer for CU-Boulder even though I never went there? Or is the fact that my cousin and brother have both graduated from there good enough?

Big difference between cheering for a school that your brothers went to... and buying season tickets at $110/game for a school that nobody you know went to... and being the bigest jerk, dumbass fans to boot.....

Okay, okay, that was pretty pathedic, had we played well we would have swept them! Assassin was right, Lakers in 5. - Darn, Still, I'll take the Kings over the Lakers in 6. And the Celtics against the nets in 5, I don't think that NJ Matches well again the Celtics at all.

It could be the end for the Nets but if Kidd can stay with Pierce or atleast slow him down or match him with some points they have a chance. Then Van Horn could stay on Walker for long enough to slow him down it's possible the Nets win. Remember they did have the best record in the Eastern Conference and they won't retire easily.

Ok... it is true that Paul Pierce is fucking good, but one man will not carry his team past the nets. The thing I love about the nets is their teamwork. Not only is Jasin Kidd a awesome shooter, he has unbelievable talent n finding players for an open shot. I live real close to The Nets stadium so I have been both a Knicks and Nets fan my whole life. Finally the Nets have made it to the playoffs, give them some credit. Just because Boston destroyed Detriot doesn't mean they will do the same to the Nets.
Remember when the Celtics beat etriot 64-62. That is freaking sad !. The Net's don't score less then 100 points a basketball game. If Boston can't produce some nights.... the Nets are gonna own the Celtics. All year long, no matter how good the Nets played they keep being the under dogs. I think you all should bet on the Nets.... I already made 200 bucks this way. I will see you guys in the Finals against LA.

Ultimo, I disagree, Walker, Pierce and others can lead the Celtics, they're just to deep for the Nets to take out, Van Horn vs Walker, and Kidd vs Pierce, and then where it favors the Celtics is the rest of the teams vs the rest of the team. Assassin, I was really disapointed with the Kings in game 1, that was sad, I do think that they have what it takes, Sure, Bryant can take out Bibby, however, Bibby can't take out Bryant, he can really close off a lot of his drives to the baskett. The Lakers have no one to match up against Webber, Just like the Kings have no one to go against Shaq. Styackaviotch will be the key to the whole thing, he will miss the first two games, however he will be there in game 3 it looks like, then I think that the Lakers are in trouble.
