> $50 for AT&T? BS. The cable(1.8Mbps downstream and around 30k/sec up) in my region costs about $30. Free installation.

Having been a 56k whore myself for a long time, I know your pain. Personally, I think it's crap the way people bitch about 56k players. You can be damn good with 56k. I loved nothing more than prefiring to nail broadband players back in the day. That said, you will be in heaven if you get broadband. Low pings, fast downloads, etc.; it's something that people who didn't spend extensive time on 56k can't truly appreciate.

http://www.dslreports.com

that site will let you find all the dsl options in your area.  along with comments from customers (by zipcode) on service.  it's a huge site when you start digging into it.

If you have Time Warner up there in Ohio I suggest going with their cable service. It's pretty damn good considering how remote we are. Damn Dsl people said they couldn't provide to us because of phone modifiers. The telephone lines are really crappy out here and cable was the best option. It's fast, reliable, and will always be there. If you find that cable doesnt work I suggest you not go with SWB dsl. All I hear from people is that they screw with their customers about delivery, service, and various minor things. Well those are my 2 cents. Hope you can find a good provider.

a quick warning about cable (or any 'always on' service)
i lost the ethernet ports on 2 computers due to a lightning strike on the line even though  they were both off.

Yea Ace is right!

I'm on 56k for ages , but I never got booted from any game! I dont know this, but it seems to be something that came up with RS and many new ppl who had cable. B/c in older times most ppl played on modem - when I started.

I will feel like in heaveb when i get my 1Mbit wireless internet connection in 2 months! ( it is not satalite - it based on radio waves )

When u dont find any good Cable ISP - stay on 56k its still fast enough for most of the games!
And those ppl who only boot ppl who cause a little lag, are nothning more then stupid arrogant newbies!

Newb therefore, b/c they still can't handle game with pings over 200! Its there where LAG begins! And up to 400 it is playble! And anybody who tells me "NOT PLAYBLE" is a damn NEWB - b/c he never played on 56k and never learnen how to play!

Good day all!

brain, that's why good surge protectors have ports for phone cords and eithernet cords on them Wink

if you can't find one with the eithernet, then you can find one that goes on the coax before the cable modem.  surges on the coax is one of the way cable companies fry illegal boxes.

anyway, hope you learned your lesson.

OMG Silent Killer.

You must have posted that just after you left my game because you were being owned. You didn't get a single multi kill game at all.

thanks for all the great advice guys, i'm checking it all out, and maybe someday will get the goods....

in response to electrojo - i'm not BSing at all. Yea, we get free install, then 3 months for 20 bucks on ATT here, but then it cranks up to 50 flat a month, plus early termination fee is like 400 or something, maybe it's just cause i'm in a big city....

Yea, i've been on a 56 for about 2 yrs, so i can match brain (hopefully) soon and become as good as SK ses he is  Grin

Anyway, thanks again for all the advice and replies
