Jesus Christ!

Now first off, let me mention, that I am not a Big RPG fan. I watched and helped a little as my friend Dave played FF 9 when we had the house in college on PS1.

But get this....

I bought FFX (X=10) a few months ago (nomad can back me on this one). I was in the store, and i thought I would take a chance on an RPG, FF 9 was pretty interesting, and it looked cool, so i decided to buy FF X.

I bring it home, and pop it into my playstation 2, and i let it run. I hear this sappy music playing, and a bunch of homo's sitting by a campfire. I'm like, "Fuck me, another gay ass story game".

WAS I EVER WRONG!

Even for you ppl, just like me who are not into the RPG scene, get this. My friend Steve and I have been playing this game for a total of 55 hrs and 39 mins, and it keeps progressing. There is something new everyday!!!! Mind u I took about 3 weeks vacation from it b/c of work and some MoH on the Ps2, but fuck, do I ever love this FFX game. I reccommend buying it if you want a game to last for more then a week! I got my $84.56 (cdn) worth from this game. My buddy plays it with me, we play as a team and take turns b/c it is a fuckin long ass game, and i only play when he comes over b/c I respect the fact that he wants to see this game and the movies as much as I do.

Get this. We get to the end boss at about 43:38 hrs of gameplay and get our ass smoked, several times.

Picture me with a PS2 controller in my hand, my jaw to the ground swearing my head off as my friend laughs at me. HOW THE FUCK DID WE LOSE!!!?!?!

We look into my item list. We have maybe 1/2 of the list full that is provided. That goes for items/spells/power ups etc etc. Does this seem right to you???, cause I know it does not to me b/c when you are at the end of the game, you probably have all of the best equipment/items/everything, and everything is full. Well this is not the case with this game.

We shut it off, and went to the bar on Saturday night, where we discussed the matter over many drinks and cigarettes while our girlfriends danced.

Being the Final Fantasy noobs that we are, we decided to go out and buy a strategy book, just to see what the hell we did wrong. No, not to cheat and use the book as a walk through, just to see how well we did and what we needed to get. and, FUCKi (notice the "i") were we ever up the creek without a paddle.

The strategy guide for this game is a FUCKIN NOVEL!!! litterally, a fuckin novel. This book puts Grifters lectures to shame. 150 page's magazine 8"x10" style. I have a fuckin 25" x 25" poster in my basement, taped to the wall of all of Rikku's Overdrive mixxes, that came with this book!!!  and another 25"x 25" poster of the power up sphere grid on my wall, that also came with the book. (" = inches)

Shit that we didn;t even know existed can be fuckin mixxed with another item to open hell beneth your enemy! hahahaha I'm guessing at least 400 items.

And the funny thing is, there is more then what is written in the guide to be discovered, as I surfed a little of the FF sites last night. NOW THAT"S FUCKED!

Now you tell me, how the hell are we suppost to finish this game when we KNOW there are ultimate weapons out there that break the 99,999 HP barrier, and more powerful aeons then the 5 we got!. Christ, we just got Anima after about 2 hrs of backtracking to get things we could not get before! Man, when u lauch Anima, i shit my pants. You don't want to fuck with that shit! YIKES!

BUT!

There are more powerful Aeons then Anima.

Fuck man, i am hooked, my friend is hooked, and my other friends are starting to get hooked. I finally found a game that lasts more then a few weeks! lol.

Mark my words, when I am done with that game, No one in there right mind would want to fuck wit my crew! Sin, is gonna wish he never got out of bed.

I reccommend trying to get your friends to play games with you. I'm so glad that my buddy steve and nick are as much into video games as i am. It's great having your friends over trying to solve games and riddles.
So al we do now, is work on the cars and play FFX. lol!!!!

Can you say "losers"Huh??

I don't care, the bars are boring when you have a g/f, so why not waste away at a videog ame with your closet friends having a beer and smokin a little ganja. No harm in that!

HOO-AH!

Good luck,
Dest Grin

Some of the high definition movies are amazing. The dialogue and storyline gets you right into it.

it's a overall great game. And remeber this is comming from me. A guy who has not even one ounce of sensitivity in hs blood. if it can convince me, then it works! lol.

Eventhough I hate the cars they make. thos Japanese game creators are beyond their time.

Well, I do like good RPGs, I just got a PS2 so I'll see later on if FFX is one, but I absolutely detested the PSX FF games.  Square makes their RPGs way to complicated and that "sophistication" in the battle system makes it worse than some other RPGs such as Golden Sun (GBA) and Skies of Arcadia (DC) that have easy to learn battle systems but put them to great use.  But that's just the opinion of someone who's only written 65 reviews in the past 6 months Wink.

For those who like video games check out www.tendonet.com, the site itself is Nintendo only but in the forums there are a PS2 and Xbox affiliate site and forum.  I just happen to be reviews editor for tendonet and a forum moderator there.

After listening to you endless ravings over this game, should i go buy it? I really liked the game Deus Ex which is story driven.Would FFX be worth it. And how much of the game is battles?

Bondo,

The attack phase of FFX is totally different then all the others. That is what was stressed very much in this game. It has changed and it is well balanced now.

Jeb,

FFX is totally different from Deus. Eventhough Deus has a great story, multiply that story times 50, and multiply the lenght times 20. lol

Seriously, the game is VERY well done, like I said, i am not an RPG fan, but this one hits the right buttons. Rent it b4 u buy it and see if u like it.

Oh, and yes, you fight all the time, but it is not the kind of fighting your thinking of. Lots of strategy and combinations of diffrerent elemets and items involved.

Mmmm, Metal Gear Solid. I'm a picky motherfucker when it comes to the design and execution of video games, and the worst problem I could find with that game was that it was too damn short. Kojima-sama is my idol, right up there with Miyamoto-sama, the creator of the Zelda series and designer of each Zelda game.

While I'm (sort of) on the topic of Metal Gear Solid, lemme run a little bad boy of an idea past you guys. MGS is a remake of a NES game, right? There's another NES game that I think would be full-on bad ass if it were given the same treatment as Metal Gear was (modern graphics and storytelling, perfect control and design, etc.). That game? Bionic Commando. Imagine a really great control scheme for the arm so that you could do Castlevania-like whipping moves with it, as well as grabbing and swinging and whatnot.. I envision a combination of MGS, Castlevania, and Unreal Tournament (since it would be far more action-oriented than MGS was).

Use your binocular goggles to zoom in on a soldier's belt and shoot your arm out to pull the pin on one of his grenades, or grab the rifle out of his hands so you can use it on him, or just grab him around the neck and throw him off a wall... Hell. Yes.

] Too Short?!?!?!

Zelda was really entertaining also.  I beat the ocarana of time but couldn't beat Majora's Mask.  I sorta gave up.

Mr. Lothario, Miyamoto-san needs no introduction, everyone knows he is the single greatest developer in the history of gaming.  (And he also made the Mario, Donkey Kong, and a number of other franchises as well as Zelda).

Metal Gear Solid bites IMO, bad overuse of FMV, bad plot, and I personally find the gameplay to be dull (then again, I'm not much for stealth).

Infection, I didn't finish MM either, but that is because the time system pissed me off as I didn't like repeating so many things endlessly.

Yes, too short. : ) Once I'd been through it twice, I could beat it in about three hours, if I remember correctly. The first time through, it wasn't too short, nor the second. But after that, the linearity brought it down... there just wasn't anything really new to try in it. Not a bad thing, in and of itself, especially considering the quality of the game, but still, a little more replay value would have made all the difference.

Bondo, I certainly agree with your panning if you meant MGS 2. MGS 1 was well-balanced in terms of playing time vs. story time (mostly playing, with an interesting and well-told backstory). MGS 2 was, intentionally, much more of an interactive movie, and suffered for it. Technically amazing, but that doesn't help relieve the boredom of sitting through hours of video.

Personally, I consider Majora's Mask to be the pinnacle of game design. Its design is very nearly perfect, and is the standard I compare my fledgling designs to. (By way of explanation, game design/development is my chosen profession.) The design of the areas and dungeons--especially the dungeons--in MM is just mind-boggling. Consider the interlocking nature of the puzzles in the dungeons. It's most obvious in the Goron dungeon, the one with the circular room which is several hundreds of feet tall. That room is the focus of the puzzle system in that dungeon, and the complexity of that dungeon's physical design and puzzle design  are awe-inspiring to me.

Ocarina of Time and MM have the same beautiful design in that the player is absolutely forbidden from going into places that he cannot handle, but the mechanism of that forbidding is almost transparent. Case in point, you can get to the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time, but until you have the Hookshot (which is integral to that temple's puzzle system), you are forbidden from actually entering. An absolute but nonintrusive mechanism. So pleasing. : )

By way of example, contrast the sophistication of the design of the two latter Zelda games with the design of the first Zelda game, wherein you could start the game and immediately walk into almost any of the dungeons. In fact, I always entered the 8th dungeon first, dashed to the Magic Key, then dashed back out. Not having to worry about keys made the game so much easier. Of course, the fact that that is possible is a flaw in the design.

What can I say? I'm a game design geek. Grin

That is true about the movies in the 2nd one but you found those boring?  I didn't at all.  I thought it was an amazing story that I enjoyed everyone minute of.  My goals was to get to more parts of the movie.  I was angry when they ended and I had to play more.

I can understand what your saying about how it got shorter.  My friend could actually beat the first one in a half hour amazingly but it certainly isn't short the first time.

? ? They weren't BAD, but I didn't think that the storytelling in the movies was good enough considering how long the movies were. At least a good four hours, right? Longer? (I honestly can't remember.) That's two or more feature films. If the writing and the pacing had been a little better, I would have been riveted to my seat, because the story was very interesting. But as it was, I often longed for a fast-forward button so that I could get the story without waiting through so much of the movie.

? ? Also, my big kick in the MGS series is the gameplay. The stealth was great and fantastically enjoyable, so it irked me all the more that my fun was being interrupted so often and for so long by a story that was taking twice the length of time it should have.

Well, my complaint about video and plot are against MGS2, my complaints about gameplay apply to both.  In general I just don't find the series to be that great.

I understand where you're coming from. The stealth-oriented gameplay flicks my Bic, but certainly not everyone's. Although you have to admit, the following is one of the funnier things in any game ever: ::approaching footsteps:: ::surprised intake of breath from approaching guard:: "What's that?" ::footsteps get very close, then stop:: "Hmmm. Just a box..." ::receding footsteps::

Loth and others,

First off, i beat MGS the week i bought it. Then I beat it on extreme. Then I beat it with all the dog tags so i could get all the diffrerent coloured bandana's for infinate ammo etc etc etc. Then I fell asleep looking at the box.

Don't get me wrong MGS was a fuckin awsome RPG. But FFX is just better. I am a huge fan of the zelda series. But right now, at this moment i think that FFX is the best RPG out there.

I kinda agree with bondo, the stealth shit is fun, but it get s a little tiresome.

I just gotta say, don't diss FFX until you sit down and play it. It has games in the game. it's fucked.

lol. MM is the pinicle of design? Are you serious? I hope you are not. That does not even come close. Loth go rent FFX and shit yer pants plz.
