The Oro Valley Police Department
Special Weapons and Tactics team
The Oro Valley Police S.W.A.T. Team was first established in 1992 when the Police Department recognized that as the Town grew and the resources available from neighboring agencies decreased, the need for a specialized tactical response unit was a priority. The first Team consisted of four officers, one sergeant and the Operations Division Lieutenant. The Team has since grown to eighteen (18) members including the Operations Division Commander and two sergeants. Along with operations conducted within the Town of Oro Valley, the Oro Valley S.W.A.T. Team has been requested to assist other departments including municipal, state and federal agencies. All members of the team receive intense tactical training in the use of: handguns, automatic weapons, explosive devices and defensive tactics. They are trained in warrant entry, hostage situations and rescue, rappelling from buildings and much more.
