The first NFL Post of the new season... I think

Well, just listening to some of the scouting reports, and I would like to know what you think of your teams off season moves. Personaly, as a Seahawks and Packers fan, I am rather disapointed with both my teams, as for Seattle, it seems to me that they lost almost all of their recivers. Basically all that they left themselves with is Koren Robinson, and then they drafted Jerramy Stevens with their First round pick ( 28 overall ), With promoting Trent Dilfer to starter, I think that they will do better, also Shaun Alexander as starting Running back. I see them as a good team, but nothing great, perhaps a 9-7 record which is good, however, not great and won't hold up in the NFC West, the Rams, 49ers, and Saints should all be able to do 10-6 or better.

As for my loved Packers. Once again, another one of my teams lets go of some of their stars, Antonio Freeman, and Bill Shroder. I understand that they were both getting a lot of money that could be spent elsewhere, however, in doing this they're putting a lot out on the line in thinking that Terry Glen who they got from New England can play well, He did in the past, however, these last few years, he has been very lacking. Ahman Green should make a great running back. Favre is an amazing player, if he plays well, I see them as the #1 team in the NFC North. Probaly with a record around 11-5 or 12-4. I really like their chances, I would like to see another "Go to" reciver up there though.

Football bores me now...yet oddly I'm going to be in three fantasy football leagues.

But no Typhy, this isn't the first NFL post of the season.  I think Brain started one back in March or something...all I know is we talked about it a while back but after the Super Bowl.

Shroeder was a loss, yes, but Freeman hadn't been producing enough last season to justify what we were paying him. It was time for him to go.
Green should have another excelent year, and if by some horrible chance he gets injured, we have good depth at the running back spot
Also, as you mensioned we have Terry Glen, and hopefully he proves worth it. Haven't heard much about him as of late though...
I expect the pac to go at least 11-5 (barring major injury) mb higher depending on how the games play out

Well, I actually really like Freeman, I thought that he did fine last year, the only reason that I'm not against getting rid of him, is because I think that the money spent on him, would be better spent somewhere else. As for Glen, I think that the less you hear about him, the better, he's known for skipping training camp, arguing with management, etc. If you don't hear anything about him so far, most likely thats a good thing, he's a heck of a player, I just hope that he can make it through the whole season.

Well I am a long time 49er fan and seeing as GreenBay always narrowly defeats San Fran I can't complain. I think the recieving moves by the pack neutralizes thier Farve advantage and in the years to come they may get new better recievers but Farve will have retired. Green Bay's trading of Freeman and other recievers will cost them dearly. As for this season I would keep an eye on The Saints. If Aaron Brooks ever shows up to camp they will be a tough team to beat. GO SAINTS

Well, I think if Terry Glen plays his best, he Packers could be unstopable. If Favre had a reciver who could run deep patterns well, I think that the whole league would be in trouble. I would like to see another Tight End come into there, sence they lost Mark Chumera, they've not been nearly as good at 3nd down plays.

this is true.
it used to be whenever favre threw the ball on 3rd and long (and they almost always did) chewie ?almost always came up past the first down marker with the ball (and often ?ended up in the end zone)

now it's a toss up most of the time.
oh well, we'll know for shure when the season starts

Well there is only one thing to say about football this year:

The Niners will bring home their record 6th Lombardi trophy.

No one will be able to stop the offense with Garcia running the show, 3 kickass receivers (Owens, Streets, and Stokes), and an awesome running game. The defense just keeps getting better and better. The Niners are going to bend the Rams over like it is supposed to be and regaint their rightful spot on top in the NFC West (and the rest of the NFC for that matter.)

Well, I see this season's super bowl between three possible matchups:

Steelers vs niners
Steelers vs rams
Steelers vs Bears

Steelers will make the AFC their bitches (especially the AFC North [Steelers, Bengals, Browns, and the Ravens, lmao]) because nobody can stop them...NFC has some damn good teams in it, and it will be interesting to see who comes out in the end.

Actually, once again, I would take New England over the Steelers in a second. I think that Tenesee should be able to pick it up again this year and chalange the Steelers for the #1 spot out there. Ace, I think that the 49ers are no better than they always are, they will be a good 10-6 playoff team, but don't expect them to win it all, or even be there at the end.

Sorry, New England blows...they lost people to free agency and didnt pick up anyone significant. New England got to the Super Bowl by the "Tuck Rule" bullshit and the crappy special teams of the Steelers (which has been completely overhauled this year). Steelers will have top seed in the AFC, no doubt about it. Killer 3-4 defense will kill any running game and the corners/safeties can handle any passing game. There is a reason why they are the number one defense in the NFL. Couple that with a healthy Bettis, an improving Stewart, and stellar WR's Burress and Mathis and there is no stopping them.

As long as either Denver or Minnesota make the playoffs I'll consider the year a success.  To think that just 4 years ago it was going to be the greatest Super Bowl match up in history until Gary Anderson missed a field goal.  Then both teams go down the crapper.

Typhy, it's best to remove your head from your ass before attempting to speak, especially if you foolishly wish to speak ill of the Niners. If you take out the two rebuilding years (2000 and 1999) and the strike shortened 1982 campaign, the Niners have averaged 12 wins a year since 1981, have won at least 10 games every year, and have won 5 Super Bowls. So much for just a "good 10-6 playoff team."

As far as the Pats go, I hate to break it to you, but unless they pull something amazing out of their ass, they won't repeat what they did last year. The Steelers should dominate the AFC barring some freak injuries or a major breakdown.

Ace, everyone knows it. The 49ers don't have what it takes, let's see exactly what they got in the offseason to inprove off of last year: Ron Stone will help at the offensive line, Tony Parish should make an okay replacement considering that they lost Lance Schulters. In the first round of the draft, they picked up Mike Rumph, he should make a nice cornerback, however, it may take him a few years. Jeff Chandler will take over as kicker. Garison Hearst will be back, however, we all know, he will never be the same as he was before his injury. Easy playoff team, probaly 10-6 or as far up as 13-3, A good team in the regular season, probaly second in the NFC West, behind the Rams. Their only offensive changes are Rod Stone and Eric Johnston, okay, just changes, perhaps a little inprovement, not much though. Tony Parish is the only defensive change and he replaces Lance Schulters, that's more of a loss than a gain, Schulters was a great player. Parish is a proven good safty, however, not great. As far as the 49ers go, I expect more of the same, a good team, playoffs etc, however, I expect them to go down to a better team, perhaps the Packers or the Rams. I really like the 49ers, I like what they've got, I think that if they keep at this, just making small inprovments and not getting themselves deep in trouble with the salery cap, one of these years, I will be wrong and they will go all the way, I don't think that it will be this season, Just my thoughts Ace.

As for New England, Quoting a projected record out of an NFL Insider from last year, or 5-11. No one thought that this team had what it took, and Bill Belichick made something out of what most thought to be nothing. The only changes in the starting line ups are: Christian Fauria at Tight End, and David Patten at Wide Reciever, These are both inprovements. Also, Ryan Phillips and Steve Martin at defence. Both not quite as good, however, sitll good players who can play well. I think that durring the off season, they simply gave Brady more options. I think that talent wise, the Steelers are far better, however, just like last year, I think that this team could go all the way,  With thinking about it more, I think that out in the AFC, the Steelers will be the only thing standing infront of the Pats and the Super Bowl, but, thats a very large "thing", I would be suprised to see the Pats make it all the way, I would give them about a %35-40 chance of beating out the Steelers if it comes to that, however, once the season starts, injuries etc, we could all be wrong. again, just my thoughts.

I think you are underestimating the impact Terrell Buckley had on that Defense last year...he is one of the great cover corners in the history of the game...and now he isn't there.
