Allright just a minute ago i was happily running software updater, and downloading the ipod update...

I ran the update, "iPod Updater" said somthing along the lines of "we've upated your ipod and its now restarting please wait and leave it connected unitll it boots up" .. i waited, and i waited, nothing happend.... black screen. Eventually i disconnnected to pod and tried to start it... nothing... .

I reconnected the ipod to the dock, no beep of recognition, nothing, just a blank dead screen....

Help!

Shit, just experienced something similiar while updating MacOSX on a friends iBook, during the install process it couldnt read the CD anymore and I had to abort and couldn't start the iBook anymore. Thanks I had my iBook and just connected the iBook as FireWire disk so I could repair and reinstall everything from my PB.

However about your problem BFG: hmmm sounds bad to be honest. May software updates recognizes still the iPod, just restart it and hope that it finds it. Furhter try out if the system profiler recognizes if something is connected on the FireWire port.

Bye,

Mauti

hmm... the iPod software update performed flawlessly on my 1G iPod... if your ipod does get recognized by the mac, you can try resetting the ipod to factory defaults with the ipod software util

try to reset the Ipod twice in a row.

P.S: you'll loose all your songs. Hope you have a backup.

Yes, as in, hold the menu and play/pause buttons down.

I know when my iPod decided to have a seizure after I shocked the crap out of it in the car a little restart did the trick.

Allright well it seems my pod was having a "BFG" moment... little bugger.

All sorted in the end, i did a double reset, flashed the ram, plugged it in and did another reset, then the comp recognised it, did yet another reset from the utility app, then logged the comp back in and lo-and behold itunes and ipod said hello to each other..

Yeah i have all my somgs on the comp, and on the ipod... although i wouldn't mind taking them off the comp because they take up a lot of bloody room! Smiley

Hate it when that happens.
