So, I'm on Gr today, and as usual, i am hosting.  Why you ask? BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE CAN!!!!  For some reason, unkown to me, people just can't run a reliable host.  I'm not picky, i can take lag, I just want someone who won't crash every 15 minutes!

This seems to be a common problem, not only in r6, but in rs too. the only stable games in rs are for 4 people and under, not to mention an unbearable lag in most rs games.

This thoroughly angers me.  i hate "hosting" people, (9in the killing sense) it really bothers me, but until someone can run a reliable host, all of you will have to deal with my host advantage.

So stop complaining.

note: morts (generally) stable hosts are run on a iMac Special edition.

r6 is a piece of shit when it comes to multiplayer reliability... most of the time, its not the hosts fault when he crashes... many factors, not just the number of players involved, can affect crashes... generally, the most reliable games are 8 people and under with hosts on g4's who havent put on mods... then again, r6 is whacky and crashes for shits and giggles sometimes

I am always hosting, I do have a Imac special edition, yet I have the usual freezes as well. I don't think it's GR, however lately I am considering it to be part of the problem. I'm on a cable line that has legendary speed, maybe because I'm living in the Ghetto and no one own's a computer around here.lol Anyway I only seem to crash when I have a bunch of dead people chat flooding the screen while the game is still being played. I myself have crashed a game before by chatting to much during a game. I'm sure there are other reasons as well, but I know this for sure any game I host with 12 or more people is a definite crash, sooner or later. Solution to a known problem; ask the host to lock server, start games with fewer people. I don't know Roy, I do think there are problems with GR but what the hell can we do about it, it's a love hate relationship!!!!!
Somebody has to Host kill, might as well be you....lol
I do like to snipe, so it does have it's down side though.

Good luck

I think the main problem is these idiots trying to host 16 player games on their imac 300 mhz with a cable modem at say 9:00 on a friday night (internet peak time).

I usually host 12 player games and if I do crash, its always at the very least 45 minutes into the game. Maybe I just have a good computer with a good connection, but I think it's time people look at the limits of their computer.

Oh and the fact that I have a dual g4 and 512 mb of ram might help too Smiley

eruo lag comment: (r6)

Games start to become bitchy when more than 8 peps in a game for me.
When i had a ok (around) 300 Ping on a U.S. Host and people get above 8 then its no matter how much prefire and movement shit i perform - its just pathetic.

(Tiny Warps, FAT Warps, Rubber Bullets, Panzer-Glass Windows, Sticky Nades ...)

At last i can around on many of these hosts without being hit until i run outta ammo lol.

By the way:  Spaz asked me 1 week ago (after 1 year i know him) if i have same terrible LAG on U.S. Hosts like they have on mine or any euro. lol. So much about "newbieness" among vets. lol.

Grin...its funny cause, after several other other people crashed, I said fuck it, and started an r6 game (10 peeps, named "wrath is sexy") and after a half an hour or so, i crashed.  Gotta love being a hypocrite!

Ace, scrotum skippy, I know, but i still find it irritating.  So i'll continue to bitch, and continue to host, and continue to kill, and continue to crash, and continue to rape rogue's mom, just cause i enjoy it all so much.

Ok, I know that a lot of people crash when they host, especially me because I host a lot and I crash a lot. But I have a  recent discovery to prevent crashes. I will tell you what to do. Ok...

1. Start up your computer holding down shift. (This turns the extensions off)

2. When it gets to the boot up screen hold down command+alt. Hold it down till a little thing comes up and ask you if you want to rebuild the desktop file.

3. Click ok and rebuild your desktop file. This doesn't lose any of your exsisting files on your hd so you won't lose anything.

4. After rebuilding the desktop, restart normally.

This will help to prevent crashes, because I crashed one time then when I crashed I did this I didn't crash till two weeks later. This isn't a guarantee that you won't crash but it will prevent this. Till someone comes up with something better to do, this will work.

I really hate when people start saying "You lag! I'm warping!".  I'm HOSTING ON A FUCKING iMac 333mhz.  Fine...I won't host then...It's really starting to annoy me...I don't crash when hosting...but I do defrag/optimize and use Norton every weekend, it works like a charm  Wink

yeah, rebuilding the desktop is often a good idea.  It does good things, exactly what I do not know.

I dont think you need extensions off to rebuild the desktop, and I don't think you need to restart, but being only slightly mac competant, I once again don't know.

Also, when you are having comp trouble, whatever the case, zapping the PRAM might help. "control+alt+r+p" during restart (make sure caps is off.) It resets your serial port, video, and sound prefs, but nothing destructive. This may not help with r6/rs but its good to know, and sometimes fixes whatever problem with which you struggle.

Roy-- Yeah zapping the PRAM is also a good thing to do when you are crashing often. You have to restart to rebuild your desktop, but you don't need extensions off, but when you do it you should do it with the extensions off because it works more efficient.

Just so you know---rebuilding the desktop is just like defragging the HD....so if you use Norton to do that and rebuild you're being redundant.

Loud-- I didn't say anything about using Norton. You should do this if you don't use Norton. Tongue
