Software companies can sell their products at a price they want but there has to be a limit. Take virtual drummer 4 for example.......All that program does is allow you to mix drum sounds together to make a beat.....how exciting.....and lets say that the software company wants to sell it for $25.00.......I say that's a bit much for a program that makes drum sounds......Same goes for Office....the programs aren't user friendly and are full of a bunch of useless crap (that's Microsoft for ya)....they have no reason to sell it at that high a price.

First, to my dear littly spazzy, if you look back there, you'll notice my comments, and your own, in which you directed the comments at SWAT.  Not at Oso, but at SWAT.  If you wanted to comment on Oso, you should have been specific.  By calling SWAT's pirates (you did insinuate that), you called me a pirate.  And if no one here can recognize your sense of humor, you don't have one.  I mean, we aren't laughing at you.... er... strike that, yes we are.  Oh, and as for being a dumbass for playing RS with all these fun people, that should make you some friends you little spaz.  I play RS on the Mac becase A) I like using my Mac more then PC's and B) I really enjoy the Mac gaming community much more then the PC gaming community.  Guess you are the dumbass Spazzy.  Do us all a favor and get that PC you seem to want.

Wrath,
dramatic?  maybe a little.  I've been traveling for a couple of weeks and I am a bit cranky.  Why do I have BT for the PC.... let's not forget that I have more then the Macs.  I also have two PC's.  And what better to do on planes or in airports then kill a few terrorists? heh.

Also, I couldn't pass up a good bit of assing.  Sticking to the theme of this thread, I haven't had the chance to do any good assing of late.  Ace and Blackhand haven't been keeping up their end of it either.  So, I figured it was time.

Ace, Bondo, Dest and others,
Ace, you'd come close to giving me money on this one.  I have paid for every piece of software and shareware (yes, I pay shareware fees) on this iBook at this very moment (I don't D/L MP3's, not my thing).  Where I'd lose is that I haven't paid for all 4 copies I have out there.  So when my wife is using Word, it's technically a pirated copy (since I only paid for the one liscense).

Now, I'm not a saint, I just have my own moral standards that I like to stick to.  I believe in the world as a shareware model.  I will download new software to try out.  I do it all the time.  But if I keep it, I go out and buy it.  I just like to try things before I buy them.  But if I'm going to use them, I want to support their development.

As for you guys whining about the price of software, you obviously have no idea what it costs to develop in the real world.  I mean, my current project has a $6,000,000.00 price tag, just for development and the tools (yes, that's six million US dollars).  And the scarry thing is that it's not that complicated of a project.  It should only take us 4 months to do or so.  It's not just paying the developers, it's about the servers, hardware, and development tools (now THOSE are EXPENSIVE).  We pay over $100,000 a year just for the object modeling software that we use.  It costs big money to develop, test, and manufacture software.  And if you think some programs are too expensive, I'm sure you can find cheaper alternatives (ie GraphicsConverter instead of PhotoShop, or AppleWorks instead of MS Office).

Also, I realize that I have a real job and make real money, and that most of you are students that don't.  But have you ever seen the discounts Apple gives to students???  It's the same one my wife gets as a teacher (and that I lean upon every time I need something).  Filemaker, Final Cut Pro, MS Office and WebObjects are all discounted more then 50% (I've picked up most at 75% off).  Universities have even better deals usually.

" it's just a damned shame evill doesn't ban everyone who plays bt etc. although that would really mess swat over. (hahahahahhahah) damn pirates.... "

that is all i said about swat in general grifter. that does not insinuate that all swat warezes. i also said that i have seen many members playing the full version of bt. i also know that a couple swats warezed r6.  (and i'm pretty sure they got it from a third swat)
and stop calling me ur dear little spazzy. u sound like an old lady. or a fag.
i have no desire to have a pc. all i said was that if you have one, why would u be playing rs on a mac. i too love the mac gaming community, and almost everything to do with macs. but if i *did* have a pc, i would be screwing around playing rs (that was a sorry attempt at humor, as i find rs to be the most worthless pos i have ever encountered).  not when there are some sweet games (halflife) for pc.

"Oh, and as for being a dumbass for playing RS with all these fun people, that should make you some friends you little spaz."
could u translate that into english for me?

My dear, dear, little spazzy....

I call you my dear little spazzy because I've been told that when talking to a 3 year old, they respond better that way, and I figured that if you, my dear little spazzy, continue to act and write like a small child, the I should treat you accordingly.

Now, in your first statement there, you call SWAT a bunch of damn pirates.  You'll notice in my post that I say this is the thrid time I've seen you post that trash, and I'm not letting it go this time.  You've said it in other threads as well.  Now, since I am a member of SWAT, it does reflect on me.  As for you knowing that a couple of SWAT's warezed R6, bullshit.  You don't KNOW anything.  You THINK they did.  Big difference.  Also, that's 2 of 11 guys.  Assuming you are right, how does that make SWAT a bunch of pirates?  Using your logic, Six would be a bunch of dumbasses (since you are, and you all must be since you are in the clan)!!  The word is stereotype.  That's what you were doing, and that's why YOU are a dumbass.  You THINK two guys in SWAT are pirates, then go ahead and post that.  Name them.  But to cast that net over the whole clan (which you have done, and not just in this thread) shows how ignorant you are, little spaz.  Guess you just wanted to live up to your name...

Hehe, I love the irony of spaz calling another clan pirates when I can count a bunch of instances where SiX's pirated various games.

Anyone else here ever taped a show off of TV?  Well then, you're a pirate.  Or even worse, taped a movie when you rent it (pay-per view to tape much).

Actually Bondo, I'm pretty sure you can tape TV shows. I believe they have the same disclaimers as sporting events. Something along the line of "Any copy or re-broadcast of this telecast other than for personal use is strictly prohibited."

Maybe so, for example, if I tape said show and someone else missed it, am I allowed to copy it onto a different tape and send it to him (with the other person paying for the expenses?).  As long as I don't make a profit I don't see the legal difference between me taping it and copying it for a friend as both of us taping it seperately.

My dear little spazzy... living up to you name again I see (by spazzing out).

As I said, you've thrown a FEW insults at SWAT lately.  since you never mentioned NAMES in them, but catagorized SWAT as a 'bunch of pirates', that includes all of us (because that's how you've said it, not matter what you were thinking).

Second, I go back to the fact that you just don't know.  You don't know if Matt has the PC version, you assume he doesn't.  You also assume that Wrath (the guy who PREACHES against pirating all the time) gave his copies to others...  time to get your head out of your ass, because all that's coming out is bullshit little spaz.  Except for a little business trip I just got back from (for two weeks), I'm on GR quite frequently (again, you talking out of your ass).  So are some other SWATS.  You seem to be forgetting Civ and Kyo and Swifty, who were on all the time before my trip, so I can't speak for the past couple of weeks.  As for why they would lie to you about it... it's called 'yanking your chain'.  You are a large pain in the ass (I'm guessing because when you don't have your head up your own ass, you are trying to fit it up someone elses).  They know you have a hard-on about it, so they yanked your chain.  That's so hard to figure out?

Spazzy, maybe we should take up a collection to get a gril to spend some time with you.  You really need to take the edge off.  I'm assume it would cost quite a bit, but I'll throw in $50.  Come one guys, it may be the only time he gets kissed, let alone maybe a hand release (well, from another person, er, well a girl anyway).

Ace, you are correct on the TV shows.  Home use is fine.  Giving a friend the tape to watch is fine if it is intact (in other words, all the commercials are there).  Yes, I actually did read the fine print once.  PPV is probably different.  It probably is technically illegal to tape a PPV movie and give it to a friend (since it is lost revenue to the movie distributer).  Now, taping Hockey Night in Canada here and sending it my buddies that moved to Texas is fine, because they can't get it in their market, and Grapes would understand that they miss Coaches Corner. =P (my Canadian friends here will understand that).

May I be the first to admit that I and my trusted gaming buddy who will remain unnamed have pirated many hundreds of dollars worth of software.  In fact, I believe all of our copies of R6 and RS are illegal.  We are bad people.

Sure it's illegal, but so is speeding.

Sure it's immoral, but so is sex.

Accept it, move on.  If you want to pay for all your software, if you want to buy CDs for every MP3 you download, go ahead, I respect you all the more for it. The simple fact of the matter is this: I'm a full time student who gets only $6.70 when he does work.  I can't afford the software prices. (Though I will say when I want a whole CD instead of copying it I buy it, if only to support the band)

Preciousroy,

you pay for CD's to support the bands you like... why?  You want them to continue to produce the great tunes you like.  It's the same with software (especially with the mac, and even more so with shareware).  You like a program, you want them to continue to churn out the good stuff.  Nobody really works for free.  We all have to eat.  And it costs a big bag of money to develop software.

I don't pay for my shareware because it's the legal thing to do, I do it to support the developers, so they can keep the hits coming.

Oh, and sex isn't immoral.  If you do it right, it can be a religous experience!  (unless you were talking to little spazzy, where it is immoral, because there is just something wrong with sex with animals).

Also, I'm not saint Grifter.  When I was in school, and had no money, I didn't pay for all (hell, not even half) of the software I used.  I just hadn't figured it out back then.  That people don't develop for the Mac as much, because there just isn't the money in it.  And the more we pirate, the less money there is in it, and the less they'll develop.  And don't forget that apple does give out that HUGE discount to students for software, take advantage of it.  Have your parents take advantage of it.

This isn't directed at you Roy, but I've heard a bunch of bitching from the Mac gammers here about how the good games never come out on the Mac... of if they do, it's 2 years later.  Well, remember that next time you D/L that copy of Red Faction or Rogue Spear.  I'll promise you that the first thing UbiSoft is going to look at when deciding weather to port RS3 to the Mac is how much money did R6 and RS make.  So, if you can pay for them, please, do pay for them.  It helps us all.

I use people like Grifter as my moral justification for using preciousroy as my role model.  While you're puzzling over that sentence, I'll tell you why.

If any of you may have wondered why I can't host RS games....and I'm just guessing at why Bondo can't either.....it might have something to do with the ways in which the game was obtained.  However, I believe Grift justifies this, because when I am old and have money then I will be able to be just as saintly as Grift.  In the meantime, however, I need to accumulate some sins so that there will be something for me to atone for later in life.

Also, there is something delightful in screwing something much bigger than you.   (another spaz quote, but I'm using it to refer to the warm feeling you get from robbing the recording industry, and even the stingy mac developers that take 5 years to port a game)

...not that I have any right to complain, but I will anyway.

By the way, as I remember hearing about it....when VHS was a new technology like Mp3s are now, I believe there was just as much furor over whether taping shows should be allowed.  Of course, since there was no way to enforce any kind of ban....the technology stayed, which is why we continue to download music at such delightfully strong rates.   Perhaps warez will be next?

lol loud.

Right on all fronts, including the point about when VCR's (not VHS) first came out.

And like I said, back then, 15 years ago or so, I didn't pay for much either.  But I also didn't know the effect on the industry it could have.  So, for the programs you really really like, make sure you pay for those (somehow).  Every little bit helps.
