If so may you die a slow stupid death of the side of the highway.
These people kill me man, on my way home today from work and i just about get hit four times!!! all by people chatting on their g'damn cell phones. Then i get that "oh sorry, did'nt see ya there" wave grrrr.
So i guess i'm just wondering if this is just a cali thing err what, cause everyone here talks and drives, everywhere.

You haven't really talked on a phone and driven if you haven't done that while being drunk! Driving lost its excitement last year, so usualy try to pound a 6er on the parking strip before i drive.
just kidding!
I think old people are worse drivers than people on cellphones. An old guy killed quite a few people last month in california after he drove through a streetfair.

If you aren't an idiot, it's fine to talk on your phone and drive. Hell, I do it all the time, and I'm normally driving a stick.

No it's illegal here in hawaii too. It being illegal hasn't stopped anyone from doing it though. I don't understand why though almost every cell phone deal you can buy over here comes with a free hands-free set.

Yes I do this all the time. But then again, I drink and drive too so I guess I'm not really the best authority on driving safety.
Anyway, neither have ever caused me problems? all my accidents and speeding tickets were sober

In the past, when I had a cell phone, I've done that. My strict policy was always "driving first, talking second". I'd tell the people I was talking to, "I'm driving at present, so my attention is on that. I am therefore unable to carry on a complex conversation, so say what you've got to say."
Now that I'm a pizza driver and therefore am spending 15-30 hours a week driving, the "talk first, drive second" idiots bug me way more than they used to. I'm planning on buying a police-style megaphone to yell at them with. Only about $100 at Radio Shack, and good for months of entertainment.

Make sure you get the type that mounts under your hood and you can speak through a CB or that style mic (a la the police). You wouldn't want to impair your driving with a big megaphone now, would you? =P
I talk on the phone while driving all the time, and I've not been in an accident and haven't gotten a ticket since 94. I even plug it into my helmet when on the motorcycle.
The law here is that if you talk while moving, it has to be hands free. And lets face it, that shouldn't be more distracting then listening to the radio. And yes, there are plenty of dumbshits that can't handle either.
My own personal hates are those women that put on their makeup, using the rear view mirror, while driving, or, worse, those that have a book or the newspaper on the steering wheel and are reading it while driving. And I'm not talking about sitting in traffic either.

Another thing that gets me going crazy is the people who drive slow in the fast lane. These people have 5 miles of open right lane to them, and .5 a mile of traffic behind them in the left lane. For those of you who know 85 in the bay area you know how maddning this is. I have the choice of taking the inside which in not safe at all (but i do it all the time)...or risk the 300$ err so useing the carpool lane to pass.
May you also die a slow stupid highway death

fastlane rocks!! also, driving with a cellphone can be safe(not really) but the thing that is really dangerous is dialing the damn thing while driving.

seems everytime i see somebody doing something stupid while driving they're talkin on the phone. a couple weeks ago down here there was a minivan full of nurses going to work and they got ran off the road into a canal. 4 outta 5 ppl died in the accident.
witnesses said the girl that ran them off the road was talkin on the phone when it happened. when the news stations got there, they asked her if it was true that she was on the phone when she ran the van off the road. still having the cell phone attached to her head she said (without a shred of remorse) "no i wasnt on the phone", and continued to talk on the phone. when they pull the phone records on this girl shes fucked...she just killed 4 ppl. i use a hands free but i hate it, it rains down here too much and my car has way too much torque to be playin around.

If you can afford it get Onstar? it's alout safer than the phone. All you do is press a buttion and the rest is vocally active. It also has alout of other things, but im not going to get in to it i'm sure you know.

Unfortunately, mounted megaphones are oh, so illegal in CA. Even regular megaphones are illegal to use in your car. The M.O. is, have a look for the 5-0, then yell at the offending Darwin Award candidate.

I chat and drive also but have voice dial and hands free ear piece.
Here's a Tip for you Doc...Once you almost get hit and trying to calm down because your so mad. Get up next to the person that is on a cell phone. They probably still wont even notice you and lay on your fucking horn. That usually scares the shit out of em and give you a sense of self gratitude.

A cell? A cell? Ooooh you mean a mobile! heh.
Stupid f*ckwits holding damn phones in one hand, driving with the other, and playing absolutly no notice of anyone else on the road. Thats what really peeves me off. Its illigal here to be using a phone in a car - or rather holding a phone - hands free is fine. then again you get people who are so involved in the conversation that they might as well have a hood over their heads.
People argue that talking on a phone while driving is different than say talking to a passager in the car. why? becasue people talking remotly tend to sort of become detached more - because they dont' have those extra communication pick ups from the person they are talking to (posture, facial expressions etc etc). only a tiny tiny percentage is apparently communicated by the actual words.
Dosn't give the one handed mobile waving retards any excuss. Fine if they want to kill themselves.. just don't kill anyone else!
