PS2 Network Adapter and Airport
«
on:
August 29, 2003, 11:30:25 pm »
Well, I just got SOCOM for ps2, and the single player is fun, but as we all know multiplayer is much more fun. The problem is that I use Airport. Is there a way to setup the Playstation 2 network adapter while still using Airport for all of my other computers? Is it possible to get some very simple router, one ethernet cord going to the airport basestation, and the other going to the network adapter?
Thoughts? Suggestions?
SpellChex v1.04 found and fixed all problems.

prepare for some serious ass bullshit once you get online, once a hacker joins yer game it's over. There is no boot button. You and your whole team basically have to kill yourselfs right at the start for about 5 games to get the asshole to leave so he doesnt get any kills. It's fun as hell, but really hard to aim fast with your thumbs...the 8 yr. olds that play 6 hours a day will womp you, you'll get tired of it.
But talk to pat about your issue, I think he has airport as well, and he plays socom online.

Buy a wireless bridge, hook that up to your PS2 and you should be online. That's what a friend did w/ his Xbox.

Snipe I've had no luck with airport/socom online... so I'm forced to borrow from a friend a big ass ethernet cord and unplug airport from cable modem / plug in the cord... the thing i'd like to do of course is get a router which goes into the cable modem then the airport/ socom and my pc when i get one can go into also.

OK i was talking to pat and he said that it isn't possible to get airport working with Socom. However, I think that he thought that I wanted to get my PS2 working wirelessly just like my computer.
I don't care if my PS2 is wireless or not.
I'm just want something like this:
--- ethernet cord
== 2 ethernet cords
(__) Airport Basestation
~ ~ airport signal
[
] cable modem
[___==_] PS2 with Network Adapter
]} nifty device
[
] ---
]}
==----------- [__==_]
--- (__) ~ ~ [iMac]
In theory, this setup should work. Correct?
Now I just need to find that "nifty device." Something ASAP. (As SIMPLE as possible)

A hub is probably your best choice. Hubs are dumb devices, unlike routers, so they're less efficient but require no setup. The lack of efficiency shouldn't make any difference when you're only talking about having two devices sharing the connection. Plus, they're cheap.
A hub simply mirrors all packets from one source to multiple destinations, whereas a router actually sorts the packets and sends to each device only what it needs to get. Thus, using a hub results in more network traffic, but like I said, for your setup, it shouldn't make a critical difference.
