Woot originated from the ICT, more specifically electronicjo about 2 years ago, then i began saying it and exploited it untill everyone knew what it was.

w00t originated from r00t, a hacker term that hackers allegedly used to yell after they had cracked into the root files of a computer...overtime it morphed into w00t (much longer than a couple of years ago)

you guys are all wrong, except for maybe psycho assasin, woot has been around since back in the day though. i know that for sure. and it has nothing to do with quake. All i know is it suddenly became a phnomenon on GR, but ive been usin it for like 2 years now. oh well.

In several years of gaming, I have come across many people named r00t and w00t...probably 95% of those people all tell me the same story or a derivative of it. I seriously doubt that it comes from the exclamation "whoot" as Lothario's google answer would state.

The 1st I ever heard from it was from +-KoS-+ Ej and then Tech9Ne, then everyone else started repeating it.  Its not the only word ppl came up with, there was also, "weak sauce= as a response to ppl who want to stop playing and leave the game or GR"
