Hey Bondo,
I found out how to let RtCW show u the FrameRate:
open the console and tipe:
/cg_drawFPS >1< or
/cg_drawFPS "1"
it also might be that u have to run the
/set sv_cheats 1 first before it works, but i think i should work without enabling the cheats!

Well thanks but I figured it out thanks to tthe people at the macgamer.com forum. Oddly enough I had the game running up to 90 FPS with highest quality graphics on my lowly 400 MHz. Guess the Ram and GF3 do make a big difference.

This might sound to you like a silly question, but here goes : Is it possible to "open" an iMac and skimp a new processor, graphics card, anything? I personally think it's impossible, that the need of a specialist is definitely needed. Hiring a specialist would probably cost a fortune, which my parents won't spend, trust me...

Weazel,
It all depends on the iMac you are talking about. The first iMacs (the old 233 bondi blue ones) had a video card in them that could be changed. Many people were putting voodoo's into them. Also, those and the 333 iMacs were upgradeable in processors as well. I upgraded my dad's iMac 333 to a G4 433mhz with a NewerTechnologies card well over a year ago.(before they went under). The upgrade took all of 10 mins, and that's because I was taking my sweet time.
They sent a video with the card on how to install it... and after the guy ran through it once, he brought out his 7 year old daughter and she did it.... I laughed my ass off. Yes, it is that easy. No consultant needed. Just a couple of phillips head screwdrivers and a static wrist band. Done deal. It's worked great for him for almost two years now. They also had a G3 upgrade card that took it to like 500mhz... it was cheaper, but I'd have to look it up. Also, I read somewhere that Sonnet picked up all the stock and most of the engineers from Newer... so you can look to Sonnet for any products for upgrades now.

The iMac I'm talking about, Grifter, is and old Bondi Blue 400mhz DV. I keep bragging my folks about the upgrading of my processor and graphics card, telling them how my buddies all have these great Macs at home or at work. I tell 'em it would've been easier if they bought a G3 - you simply open the CPU, and voil?, right? With an iMac, however, it's not that easy. The iMac is an all-in-one computer. It has no separate CPU, it's all in there.
I guess we all know how iMacs look like, although I find it hard to believe you can simply refurbish the computer with a screw driver and a static wrist band. Not that I don't believe you, on the contrary, but I've never been that good at DIY. If a 7 year old can do it, I can too. You'd be surprised how I deeply suck at handworks... Even with a screwdriver. I managed to cut my hand open once with a screwdriver but I won't go into it, that'll be for later. Anyways, I'll give it a shot, hoping my achievement will turn up well. That's why I want you, Grifter, to gimme more details about the opening and the adding of hardware to computers. If any, are there websites with a clearer view on the argument here?
I do see screws on the iMac's surface, but there are no specific holes to put a screwdriver's top inside. I'd like some more info. on that Grifter if you like. I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
WeaZelFlinK / ViRuS.

Weazel,
I'll break down the proceedure real quick.... ?This was for the 333mhz iMac.
Remove the 3 screws that hold the bottem module in.
Put on wrist anti-static strap.
slide out the module, disconnecting the video and CD connections.
Remove the two screws that hold in the CD drive and remove the drive.
The RAM and daughter card that house the cpu are now all exposed. ?Remove the daughter card and replace with the new one (it snaps in and out like RAM).
Put everything back in the reverse order of taking it apart.
Have a beer and enjoy the new speed.
Now, that was it. ?That rev of iMac couldn't be upgraded with a video card. ?Yours says it's a AGPx2, which means you should be able to upgrad it with any mac compatable AGPx2 Graphics card (ATI Radeon, GeForce3, etc) ?The processor card I used didn't need any drivers, since it was a simple swap out. ?If you go from a G3 to a G4, you'll probably have to flash the ROM, but that will come with the instructions of the chip you get. ?Yes, upgrading the blue and white G3's is easier because they have a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) chip, whick is a snap to change.
The best places for info on upgrading your mac are:
http://www.everymac.com
and
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com
Everymac.com will tell you everything you want to know about your mac. ?xlr8 will tell you everything else... being not so handy, I'd steer away from xlr8's guides to overclocking, unless you want to force your dad to buy a new computer.
Here's the link to processor upgrades for iMac's:
