I use a 1GHZ Powerbook G4, 1GB RAM, 64MB ATI Radeon 9000. Over the past 2 weeks, my computer seems to be getting progressivly slower.

2 weeks ago, Safari and GameRanger both opened in one bounce on my dock.

1 week ago, both opened in 2-3 bounces.

Now, Safari opens in 5, GameRanger opens in 4.

I havn't noticed any changes in gaming performance, even on processor demanding games like UT 2003.

I've ran Disk Warrior twice trying to correct the problem - didn't help.

At the moment, I'm trying to avoid having to reformat my HD at all costs.

I have nearly 270GBs of shit. I have a 60GB internal drive, and two 120GB external ones. I have about 12GBs of free space ( 10 on my system drive ).

Any suggestions?

Call me crazy but i have noticed that same...

specs:
Imac 800 g4
512ram
60gb HD

Theres 1gb left :/

Everything just seems slower than it used to, had the comp for a year a 3months and no "clean ups" or anything have been done during that time. So if there some way to speed the comp up I would sure like to hear it.

Sry typhy, no answer here  Wink just more worries

Yours is more understandable, because of the HD space issue, assuming that you're running OSX.

A little more information.

I've repaired permissions multiple times, as well as ran Disk Warrior.

I turned on CPU monitor, and noticed something strange. When I do things, it doesn't use all my processor. Usually, when I open an application, it will use all the processor for just a second as it opens. I watched Safari take 23 bounces to open, but using less than 1/4th of my processor.

Normally, I would just delete my drive, however, my ex 867g4 has died ( and is being replaced with a Dual 1.25GHZ G4 that hasn't arrived yet ). My 867 used to pack around 500GBs of storage ( 60+80+160+120+120, I believe ), so when I had to delete my drive, I could dump all my shit on there.

Right now, though, I'm kinda stuck. I've got 268GBs of shit on my computer, making it extremely hard to find a place for all of it.

Suggestions appreciated,

Typhy

Update: Now I'm more confused than ever. I've been just sitting here, bitching about my comp to people on GameRanger. I go to suffer through the 5 minute wait of opening Safari, when, what a supprise, it opens in 2 bounces! I try it again, it opens in one. . .

It's technical support, not technology Smiley

I'd suggest an optimization using whatever app you've got at hand. But if it works now, no worries I guess. Joka, you need to trash some shit, usually they say you need 10% of your harddrive space free to keep it in top condition.

By anychance, is 10% of 40 GB 350 megs?  Wink

Just thought I would throw that in for the hell of it.

Typhy, this is an obvious one, but it's not meant to insult you.  The obvious is often overlooked.

You run a powerbook, are you letting your hard drive spin down to save power?  Check.  Because the waits you have talked about (especially since it's not consistent) could be as simple as that.  Also, can you hear the externals spinning up?  Try it without the externals connected.  You see where I'm going?

Try PlusOptimizer, it came with my OS9 copy of Diskwarrior, not sure about the OSX version though.  It speeded the whole computer up.
