my computer has been asking me for awhile to update the driver, it says that it should improve its life span. It also says in big bold letters :

i am scared for many reasons, and i cant possibly back up my hard drive, what should i do. has anyone else done this already? what happend? please enlighten me,

It's just updating the drivers.  They give you that warning because there is a small chance that your hard drive will shit itself.

I've done it on two computers, both came out just fine.  The "back up your software" is just a big CYA for them whenever you are doing something like this.
