What good is life if you don't have freedom?

Check out this interesting speech by Al Gore:

Most of the text of the speech can be found here.

A short summary can be found here.

This, combined with the recent hard-charging anti-republican campagining by Howard Dean makes me think the dems might actually have a shot at stopping this madness come 2004.

To those who wonder where the dems have been all this time, I echo your sentiments but it's better late than never I guess.

If Howard Dean becomes the Democratic nominee for President in 2004, Bush will win re-election in a landslide barring something very significant. Dean is way too far to the left to appeal to the masses...kind of the same reason why many people think that Arianna Huffington is a bitch also. Only person with a true shot to overtake Bush is Joe Lieberman because he is a moderate...but that will never happen because he is a Jew and agrees on many moderate Republican points of view.

As for Gore "growing a pair," he has always been critical of Bush on just about everything except for 9/11...surprises me that it took until now for someone to dig up another one of his speeches.

The conservatives are displaying, and you highlight it right there Sin, a great deal of arrogance.  Bush eeked out a victory over Gore in 2000 and since has proven to a great deal of America that he is deceptive (not about the war but about everything...that was the point of Gore's speech).  His approval rating is dropping down to about 50 and the number of people saying they'd vote for him again is below 50.  There is no reason to believe Bush is a lock to win against anyone...cept Gary Coleman.

There is another big factor.  With this conservative arrogance, they are less likely to think they need to go vote as it is going to be such a landslide.  On the other hand there are loads of liberals and other disgruntled people who will vote against Bush regardless of the candidate because they absolutely want him out.

If anything I say it looks favorable for the Democrats at this point...be it Dean, Lieberman (god I hope not, he might as well be a Republican), or Gore (who says he won't run but many are urging him to).

So what are you saying sin? That a liberal democrat can never win, but an extreme conservative is a shoe-in? The fact is, Dean has been thoroughly smeared by the media as a "far-left" liberal when his stances are anything but. Progressives like myself in fact consider him a significant compromise from our chosen candidate, Dennis Kucinich. He is fiscally conservative, supports the death penalty, has a good NRA rating, has a health care plan that is conservative compared to other democrats, and supports spending more money on the military and homeland defense. The only reason people think he is "Far left" is because he opposed the Iraq War (compared to other Dems who wanted to oppose it but were wishy washy and voted for it anyway) and supported civil unions, which are going to happen anyway and just makes him ahead of his time (they are the right thing to do). Either way, he is not a traditional liberal in any sense and that at least gives him some appeal to me, and apparently to other Democrats.
