Raven Shield Wish List
«
on:

I jusy saw this article posted c/o Rogue Spear Retreat:
http://www.nukevillage.com/features/articles/rsgc/rsgc.shtml
It's basically someone listing all the gameplay elements they think should be in Raven Shield. It's moderately interesting, but there were two suggestions he raised that I wanted to question y'all about.
1. He claims there are too many weapons in Rogue Spear so Raven Shield should have less.
2. He believes the Heartbeat sensor should be dropped from Raven Shield.
Just trying to start a discussion, but I disagree with both those comments - how does everyone else feel?

well, one of the reasons i play RS are the many many weapons included/modded. Except for CounterStrike, almost every mod for UT or Q3 (correct me when i'm wrong) has quite few, so RS really has an advantage here...

It should play exactly like R6 but with better graphics, a few more weapons, and some new maps.
It should completely throw out anything changed from R6 to RS as it is clearly rubbish.

Has anybody suggested this guy he's thinking of a downgrade of Rainbow 6, rather than an upgrade of Rogue Spear?

hmm...I'm not sure I agree with you all.
What's so great about having a lot of weapons? If you just like looking at them and/or modding them that's one thing, but for actual gameplay they don't add much.
The only really important things are the difference between sniper and regular weapons, etc.
R6, if it had one sniper wep, would be near perfect. The other guns are virtually useless
unless
they are modded.
However, one of the good things about RS is that it allows a host to limit the weapons available...While it can be annoying, it does at least allow for more fair gameplay.
Couple other nice things about RS...
- names of team on map screen...it's nice to know who's who, especially if you're wanting to tk
- allow host to select spawn points on each map
- better graphics
things that suck ....
-THE GAME ENGINE! here's where they should just stick with r6 or start using something like the Unreal engine, etc., which is apparently in the works
- Host needs CD to play...stupid stupid stupid
- weather fx...maybe it's just me, but I think they get in the way

Well the big difference, is that R6 is Scottish and RS isn't and in the words of a Mike Myers character "If it ain't Scottish, it's crap!"
Ok, so neither are Scottish, but you get the idea.

wish list.. hmm....
1) it shoudl play NOTHING like UT
2) you must not be able to jump
3) you should be able to duck, crawl, lie on your stomach, crawl on your stomach, and lean up against walls,
4) It should have every gun imaginable that is used by tactical and terrorist forces.
5) The HBS should be kept, but perhaps the way it works revamped. way, when at the edge of HBS range, the target appears as a large, vague/transparent dot.
6) you should have to stop moving for the HBS to work.
7) melee/close range weapons. choke wires, knives, batons, fists
riot shields

Yes, lets make the game that much more fucking hard to play, as if RS wasn't bad enough.

Bondo,
Some of us would say "more challenging".... I never thought RS was that hard.

well, grift you know these r6 dumbies can hardly handle their own game - adding in extra moves like peaking and walking in crouch mode just boggles their little minds and makes the r6'ers start to cry

You confuse difficulty of the game with difficulty of the controls. I found RS hard to use. It just didn't flow as easily.
And there is something to be said for simplicity.

Bondo is completly right
Its not that the game is hard to play, but the games is hard to controle, u need much time to learn how to use the stuff and how to use it efficient.
I like games more that are not to difficult to controle.
1) i like the crounch mode on RS
2) Raven Shield sould not be more comlicated then RS, b/c was comlicated enough.

well.. I'm saying I didn't find it that challenging. It's controls were mapable, just like R6, and there wasn't that much new to learn. Just my opinion.

i don't see how these new movement options would make it so much mroe complicated. the only things my new move ideas would add is perhaps two more keys. one to lena up against a wall, and the drop to lying down key could be included in the crouch, perhaps using a modifer key w/ crouch. i use space for crouch, so if it was cmnd-space for all the way down, i think that'd work good. you coudl just use space again to get up.
And us pussy campers really like HBS.. so it must stay.
and yes.. more more types of nades.. perhaps different fuse times on the different nades.
you foolish r6 players.. RS isn't taht complicated.. all it really adds is leaning!

The complication isn't with leaning and other movement stuff, it is with the reticle knock that makes the picture jump when you are shot. Also the guns no longer feature the three shot on most of them. Just way too many weapons. Also, the hbs is way to difficult to use. Some of you may not like the hbs, but it is essential to make games be able to end. No hbs means much endless searching for others. I never use my hbs to camp, I use it to find who to go after. All of this stuff together made RS worse than R6, it had nothing to do with the movement.

Bondo,
The guns that have 3 shot bursts are still there. But there are lots of guns that don't have that option. Maybe to mimic the real world guns, eh? I mean, not every gun in the world has a 3 shot option.
In RS, you'll still find it on many guns that have it. The MP5A4, UMP, M16, Enfield, HKG36K... they all have 3 shot bursts on them. Granted, with all the new guns, most don't have the 3 shot option anymore. But you can always find a gun that does.
As for the reticlue knock.... two things. 1) I like it. It means that when getting shot, you get knocked around... makes sense to me. 2) you can turn it off with a click of the mouse.
The fact that you can turn off the Knock, and Thrid Person and use kit restrictions to take C4 or HBS out of the game is one of the main reasons I like RS better then R6.
And I'm not sure by what you mean on the HBS being difficult to use.... seems to work fine to me. Range may be a little less... and when people are lagging it's pretty much useless, but that's lag.
As far as the Knock and Gun Options goes, I like keeping it more real (compared to other games and mods). I mean, I don't like third person (all you campers out there) and I don't like games where you can pick up health and ammo and powerups.
Besides just the expected graphics improvements and maybe a smoother engine, the parts of the game I'd like to see improved are:
Yes, I agree with the prone position for sniping instead of just squating. But it should take even longer to get into and out of it.
I would like to see that you could pick up unused grenades from your fallen comrads (up to your max) and ammo (again up to your max) if it's the same gun. The trickey part here is you'd have to set it up as an action key... so it would take time and not just walk over the person. I'm very strong on keeping the max too... after all, you can't carry a shitload of stuff around.
Other then that, a little better AI. On the harder settings, they get very accurate with their fire, but they are still pretty dumb. Maybe some uni's that actually blend in a little.
Hey, it's just my opinion.

The problem I have with the reticule knock is that it makes high ping that much worse. In R6 if you were out pinged you could prefire and maybe take a shot. In RS whoever has the lower ping can hit you once and make you not be able to recover so it makes ping much more important than it was in R6. Also, IIRC there are supposed to be a few ping equalizers in RS to try to lessen it, but they just make every thing messed up as you don't know whether to prefire or not.
About the graphics, I actually didn't like the changes, with my bad eyes the graphics made it impossible to see people on many levels, much worse than on R6. Yes this is largely a result of my bad eyesight, but they were just hard to work with. I don't have the same problem playing RtoCW or basically any other FPS but I did with RS.
