Where is the knowledge we lost with information?

I was on my iMac this afternoon(17'' version) I have GR and AIM open then all of the sudden the screen tinted in a downward motion from top to bottom like a paint-roller till it was all tinted. A white panel came up and told me to restart, under it, was the same thing in French and Spanish. I restarted by hitting the power button and now its back to normal... I think. Wtf is up with that?

     It's a friendly kernel panic. When you get an unfriendly kernel panic, your screen changes to a dump of your registers and shit--all sorts of debug info. Don't worry, a kernel panic won't hurt anything, probably.

Haz,

       you should try running a disk repair utility such as Norton Sytemworks or Drive 10.  If you don't have these you can verify (but not repair) drive problems on your startup disk with Apple Disk Utility in your Applications/Utilities folder,

I would sugjest Disk Warrior rather than Norton. Disk Warrior can repair almost anything wrong with a hard drive on a macintosh..
