btw I am not a communist ( I am a social democrat actually) I am against globilzation so I am being politically active on the forum. I would appreciate it if you did not delete this thread, but do what ya gotta do.

Globilzation make rich americns richer but poor americans poorer. Shrinks the middle class and expands the gap between rich and poor. All my opinion.

Well American ones do. China (even though they do not vote) still remebers the Bombing of their embassy by America during Kosovo.

Brain,

I'm probably one of 5 or less people on the forums here that can actually remember Ragenomics.  A few more probably know about it... the rest weren't even born.

Lived through yes... experienced... not much first hand knowledge from me unless you count a few trips to Europe and having some Political Science classes in the mid-late 80's as an undergrad.

Glasnost was a revolution in Russia in 1986. In that night, ppl were standing @ the appartment of Andrej Acharov in Gorki. In front of the door there was 1 KGB officer and 2 electricians. They set up a phone, a device which Andrej wasn't allowed 2 have since he was banned 2 Gorki. The electricians set the phone up and said there would be a phone call the next morning. And indeed, there was one. Gorbatsjov spoke 2 Andrej and said that Andrej could come back to Moskou. From that moment on, he was allowed 2 SPEAK FREELY! (a subject that the forums do not have, in my opnion!!!)
this is a major turining point in that time, so they gave it the name Glasnost.
Perestrojka = the reforming of the russian economics. First, Gorbatsjov was very suspicious about this, so he only allowed a bit more economic freedom. But later on, ppl started 2 turn against him, + the oil and gas prices dropped so the country had less benefit from export. The food prices in the stores kept increasing tho, in 1990 there was even a 'starvation winter'. He increased the amount of free economic stuff and so on, in March 1989 he even allowed free elections (!). From March the 25th the television even showed the population parliamentary debats/discussions, which actually was a discussion, unlike a couple of years be4, where it was already set up who was gonna do what, and when, regardless what the outcome of the debats/discussions said. That is what perestrojka means. The slow increasing freedom for ppl 2 elect ppl and in economis spheres.
Sorry for my bad english, but it happened 2 be that I am in my final examn year in holland, and our subject for History is Russia  Grin. So for all u ppl out there with questions about russia, I am ur man  Wink
