Getting a new mouse

I'm thinking about getting a new mouse. I currently have the Apple Pro. I'm looking at getting something optical and wireless with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel. There are some nice Logitechs that I have been looking at, as well as a couple from Kensington. I will not buy an M$ mouse.

I have never had a non-Apple mouse, so I'm looking for some advice from the peanut gallery.

I have a Logitech, and it is the way to go - Kensington's are nice, but my roomate's recently broke for no reason.

I'm happy with my Kensington, but my particular model is better for everyday use than it is for gaming.

ace, i wouldn't go wireless if you're planning on gaming with it, especially FPS's.

I understand your anti-M$ sentiments, but their mice are really good.

I've got one myself: low cost ($40USD), 5 configurable buttons plus a scroll wheel, optical, feels great, never had a problem with it.

Not sure if they make my particular model anymore though, Microsoft Intellimouse Optical or something like that...

-one more thing, it's not wireless but it does have a nice long cord so it hasn't been an issue for me.

Ace, more reason to avoid the M$ mouse is that (judging from mine) they break.  Back when I still played (it isn't a coincidence that I stopped) I had the Intellimouse Explorer (optical 4 button and wheel) but then it kept losing signal and I'd have to unplug and plug it for it to work and it would do it again after a few minutes.  I'm thinking about finally buying a new one as well so I'll be interested to see the suggestions here as well.

I have a logitech cordless and the optical with cord and I must say that I much prefer the optical with the cord over the cordless.  it is a great mouse and have had it for over 2 years now without a snag.  It's really the way to go.

You should look at the Logitech MX500 and MX700, the MX700 is a wireless optical mouse with 7 buttons and a scroll, it's really an awesome mouse, although a bit heavy because of the batteries (it has a really sexy loading dock though so you don't have to change the batteries, it loads by itself). The MX500 is essentially the same mouse but with a cord, lighter and I guess it's better for games. Only downside with using a Logitech mouse as I see it, is that their drivers aren't the best, but you can just use USB Override if it doesn't fit you.

only thing i have to say about optical mice is that you do have to change the batteries and as far as i can tell there is no way to know if the batteries are about to go till they do.

that said i have a logitech 4 button wireless optical with a scroll wheel.  works great in ghost recon, only thing i have a problem with is fine aiming at long range (usualy sniping with the oicw). bbtw, you will love the incremetal zoom you get with a scroll wheel. it will revoloutionize the way you play. or at least make it easier

p.s. if you want a dual sensor mouse, go for it, but i have never had a problem with my mouse jumping from moving it too fast, even in games

Brain, that only happens with really old optical mice, I can't make my MX700 lag even if I try. And also I load it in a loading bay so I don't have to worry about changing batteries, also if the batteries do go out, I just use my backup mouse while waiting for the other one to load up (The battery time is around 3 days if you use it moderately like me)

Nothing wrong with wireless mice and FPS games - i have one for 1 year now and dont have any probs.

If u dont like changing batteries, then get one with cable. But I would suggest that u get of the Logitech mice they are very good in ecry thing.

MacAlly makes real nice mice and other accesories.

Look into them.

I'm using a iOptinet, it has 2 buttons, scroll wheel and a long cord. It also has changeable face plates to match your computer lol. I just change it everyone once in a while for the fun of it. Not a real big selling point anyway. The main reason I got it was because it doesn't feel like its going to break if I hit the button, unlike my bosses crazy MS 5 button, quad scroll wheel, tri-optical mouse. The quality of their (MacAlly) drivers is great and obviously they are Mac centric. I've never had a problem with tracking in all the games I've played and in my breif test of moving the mouse around as fast as I could there was no visible stutter

Logitech makes great mice and keyboards with IMO poor drivers. The wireless keyboard has crap drivers and I wasn't awed by the mouse drivers (nothing out of the ordinary).

I'm not framiliar with Kensington.


Any way give MacAlly a shot I haven't been dissapointed. I plan on picking up an IceKey keyboard from them eventually.

1 month isnt much - my Keyboard worked for 1 year and my mice take it up to 2 - 3 months.

Heh, well perhaps not 3 days, probably more up to a week, but that's beside the point, there's a loading bay that reloads the batteries when you're not using it so you NEVER have to change the batteries, you just put the mouse in the dock, looks sexy too, and Colin, the drivers can be replaced with USB Overdrive which works perfectly.

USB Override?  I don't want a mouse that requires me to know how to use my computer...I can handle plugging it in and installing software, but that is about it.

Altough you said you wont buy a microsoft mouse, the best mouse i've ever used was the bluetooth wireless mouse. The buttons were placed in supreme locatons, and you didnt hold the mouse, your hand just rested in a natural postion.

You know for the price of a cheap mouse you could get the belkin n50 speedpad. This thing is awesome, and I love it. Each key and key combo not only performs a single function like on a keyboard, but you can also script it. Say to shoot off five shots really really really fast. Or in RS, since the rate of fire doesnt affect single shot, you could probably make it fire a whole clip in less than a tenth of a second and then immediately start reloading.
