I've been to several apple stores, I like the set ups and trying the computers and I've also seen like 6 comps hooked up to a lan playing Tony Hawk, some noobs Wink.  But I also feel in the apple store they need to sell some apple accessories.  Really I've noticed they only have the bare minimum like the computers and maybe an Ipod.  I feel they need all the apps, games, speakers, ram and accessories.  Note:  I'm not sure about all of those things not being there but I didn't really see them advertised a lot when I was at a couple stores.

Apple stores were set up just to sell more of their computers to gain a bigger spot in the market share.  They probably figure that if people want thing's such as mice or speakers, they'll go else where to get them.

Heh, I just bought a new kensington optical mouse at the Apple Store in Durham, North Carolina.

The store here is great. . .you're right that it has limited selection of accessories, but they're there.  All the latest games were available, and most major software titles.  And they're willing to order anything for you.  It's nice.

My only gripe is that I'd like to see them have some sales/special promotions.  Sigh. . .everything is full price.

And one thing that sucks - they were telling me about some student discounts that they have.  And I was getting excited. . .hey. . .maybe even 10% off my mouse.  But then. . .I don't get a discount because I"m only a high school student.

Grrr. . .since when are college students in more financial need than high schoolers?

Overthrow, I've been to the same Apple store. My cousin works there part-time and gets great hours and great discounts too. I think they are a good idea because they draw people into the "je neu se quoi" (dunno about spelling on that Huh) of apple computers. i wouldnt ever buy anything there unless i was loaded or buying on a whim, but for the common computer consumer who just wants to buy a computer and not think about it any more than that, they are probably a great opportunity to see what's out there.

loudnotes, as a college student I was offered discounts on apple computers if ordered from apple.com. however, i got the same computer cheaper from a different source even without their crappy 5-10 percent discount. However, I can see the fruits of that discount everywhere, since in exchange the U of Iowa gives apple permission to advertise everywhere? and I do mean everywhere!

Dudes first of all if you dont work for the government, or a teacher, or a college student YOU WILL NOT GET A DISCOUNT  If any of you get the magazines MacWorld, Mac Wearhouse, you will notice that all of the macintosh computers are THE EXACT SAME PRICE.  Apple dosnt let the companys change the prices how they see fit.  Apple sets the starting price and the store must go by that price unless apple dropes there prices, than the company must to.

The apple store nearest to me has alot of accesories, especially games. Maybe it all depends on the person running the place.

I've never been to an apple store but I got the impression that they all had tons of accessories and software, not just computers... Maybe it varies a lot from store to store though.

SK, if you goto the apple online store and into the education section, you'll find that if you're a teacher/student/federal employee  whatever you can get a discount of like $50 to $100 on most computers, up to around $300 on the ultimate configurations. They do drop the price point a bit for educational services, federal emplayees, etc.

First of all I'll let you all know what's what about the Apple Store since I work there.

Every Apple Store is set up exactly the same with a very few exceptions, and those are just the flagship stores that are a little different. The flagship stores are The Grove in LA and the Soho Store in NY city. These two store are two stories and thus just have a few more computers on display and carry a few higher priced items not available at other stores. (after all they are all owned, operated, and controled by Apple. There isn't any leway in their set up)

The Apple Stores don't just carry computers and iPods. We have a very large selection of software. In fact it's the largest selection of Mac compatible software of any brick and mortar computer store. There are games ranging from game show knockoffs to the great fps games, R6, RS, GhR, MoHAA, and Sof. There's graphics software from Adobe, Macromedia, and Corel. There's all kinds of productivity and reference software as well as educational titles for the youngsters.

As far as accessories for your Mac, there are printers, scanners, about a half dozen mice, graphics tablets, external CD burners, and about a dozen external hard drives. There are a dozen different digital still cameras and a half dozen digital video cameras. We carry Palms, as well as a bunch of other odds and ends for your Mac. We also carry about six different sets of speakers ranging from the Apple Pro Speakers to the ultra cool JBL Creature Speakers to the awesome Harmon Kardin Sound Sticks.

Basically everything that is available at The Apple Store online, you can go into the brick and mortar Apple Store and walk out the door with.

What more could a person want.

Another thing is that Apple Store Employees can give out "friends and family disccounts" Basically, these give a select few ppl discounts of about 45% or so. So start becoming friendly with your local Apple Store Employee!  Shocked

Are you serious Cringe???

Can anyone confirm that?  I would think that along those lines, Apple would be wanting to give discounts to its "friends and family" who kept buying computers all throughout their sucky period in the 90s.  I.e. I've had Apple computers my entire life, and I'd like to be rewarded too.

But I wouldn't mind a job if the damn store weren't a 45 minute commute from my house.

Yep im serious, when i went to the apple store in the palisades mall, i asked one of the cooler guys working there how old you had to be to apply for a job, and he started telling me about these discounts that employees can give out to a select few. it was a while ago but i vaguely remember it being like 40% or something like that. Must be listed under the employee "perks" or "benefits".

I'm sworn by an NDA, but I'll let you know Cringe that the guy you had talked to was a bit off. And I'm pretty sure you gotta be 18 in order to get a job at the Apple Store. And to let you kknow that 45min isn't that long of a commute to work at a place as cool as the Apple Store. Several of my coworkers commute 45min to an hour to work at the Apple Store.
