In general I don't think drugs are a good thing, I just don't think they should be illegal. Thusly being caught with the substances shouldn't be a crime.  It is a medical problem that needs to be cured, not a criminal one.  Get these people treatment, not punishment.

Guess it's time for me to spout off on this thread.

So, I'll start by surprising most of you and saying that I think it wouldn't be a bad thing to legallize weed.  It isn't much worse then alcohol (better in some ways, worse in others).  It would just need to be controlled like alcohol is (or better, not like cig's).

Weed, alcohol, opium, X, etc... they are all drugs.  By making some of them illegal, we are just saying that people can't be trusted to do the right things.

Now, all that being said.... I want to put it in perspective.  I don't belive in seatbelt or helmet laws for adults either.  People should have the right to be a dumbass.... not wear a helmet.... abuse drugs.... be a dumbass....  People should have the right to prove Darwin's theory right.  The average IQ in the gene pool will only go up.  

The obvious argument against this is crack babies and people that turn out like Peekay and Rom because their mothers smoked too much pot while they were prego... (ok, this was uncalled for... but I hadn't mocked anyone in a while.  Bander doesn't count, since calling an asshole an asshole isn't really mocking).

The thing is, Grift, there will always be crack babies.. no matter how illegal drugs of any sort are, people will still get them. A response to this is "well, there will be even more if you legalize drugs!". Oh well.. let the Dumbasses? kill themselves off.

So slightly off topic, but I went to Colby College this week for an overnight stay.

(Colby College = small, quality liberal arts college in the middle of Maine.  if you are into those BS U.S. News polls, it is ranked somewhere in the 20's)

When I was there, I saw more pot than I've seen in my entire life, because, apparently, Wednsday night is when everyone goes to their dealers to get enough pot to last the weekend.  Such generous people, wanted me to smoke up with them at least three times in one night.

Sigh, if I only smoked, it would have been a party, for sure.  I guess I'll just have to stick to the inebriating liquids (no, not JUST fresca, though I'm sure that probably classifies as one)

No, I don't buy thos BS U.S. News rankings, all colleges suck.  The day someone learns something in one of those social centers will be the first.  I would go off on my argument but it is all in an 800 word essay I wrote.  If anyone really cares about my views on it though, I'd be glad to e-mail it to you.  College is much better for getting drunk and high than smart.

Heh, I'll agree it's easier to get drunk or high at college... but I think people can still learn.

A point on your side is: at my first post college job interview (Ford Motor Co.) the guy interviewing told me that the only thing my degree (B.S. in Chemistry) proved to him was that I had learned how to go party all night, get drunk, but still know how to function and meet my comitments... In other words.. getting a degree is more a right of passage that proves you've grown up enough to play but still do the work.

I don't really agree with this... especially for the hard sciences, engineering, and post graduate work.  But in the case of almost all liberal arts degrees.... there is the hint of truth in there.

The only "drug" i use (and like) is mariuhana. I am starting my job at half nine o clock in the morning - then i torture my brain to locate ideas there for new advertising strategys - after this i sit in my office till late at night and when i come home i can do nothing else anymore than turn on the TV (and see a war going on).

So i and my friends here meet each others in our flats and enjoy it to drink tea, smoke a joint (and so on) and discuss about various things - however: at half nine o clock we are turned into brave "workers" again.

I also found out that i dont have anything against alcohol (while its also a drug) but mybe due to my genetic-code i dont like being drunk that much (the worst is that bad feeling the next day lol). Most times i get myself a beer just for holding it when i am in a music-club here

In the swiss and in holland weed is already legal and this prooves that our "goverments" can survive legalizing weed. As i know weed was banned together with alcohol in the u.s. during the prohibition-times. but while alcohol got un-damned by the goverments weed still is listed on the "NO" list, since that time. On the otehr hand we can buy loads of medicaments to chill us down totally legally (my father is a doctor so i know what SHIT is in most of these recipe-free medicine-drugs too)

The bad things on weed:
Makes u slow, lowers ur activitys, causes light paranoia, costs as much as gold, can bring u into jail ...

The good things:
Relaxes, Isnt unhealthy (due what significant doctors published here), chilles u down in a peaceful way, boosts your creativity a little

About other drugs: I dont like em, (except mushrooms) - but as somebody said: Everyone must know for himself what he does and what he does not.

From my experience and watching American Beauty, the good stuff is extremely expensive like you said.  But the less good stuff is really affordable.  A dime for ten dollars isn't to much of a hardship but then again what is the quality of this stuff.  For the top quality stuff, it only becomes healthier (because it is made best for medicine) so it would be expensive but worth it.  Also, I don't know if anyone has some links to some good studies of +/- of  pot, it would be nice to check these out.

Well, if the Discovery Channel and 20/20 are to be believed, the best, most potent weed today is supposed to be BC Bud grown around Vancover, BC, Canada.

This is just me parroting the news, since I've never smoked pot in my life (and I don't really drink).  I don't see prostitutes, but I think that should be legalized too.

I think that the legalization of these things will help control them in the long run.  I'm actually surprised that Canada hasn't made it legal yet, as prostitution is in Ontario, and they are a pretty liberal country.
