We need a break from this rapid issue? What's better, os9 or osx and dont just say osx because its newer. I say some apps are better in os9, and some in osx, but os9 overall because its kinda hard to use osx on a powerbook?

For everything besides a few legacy games (basically RS), X owns 9 in pretty much every way possible. Stability, ease of use, Unix, I could go on for a while. I have a TiBook and I run X on it all the time.

That said, I voted for System 7 because it ruled and I doubt anyone would give it any love. BTW, all MacOS's before 8 were referred to as System # (ie System 7, System 6, etc.)

i voted on X but i wanted to post here to concur with ace's vote of system 7??its doubtful that many of you remember when os 7 was released, but truly it was a more revolutionary OS release than OS X. it was about the same level of system overhaul, and there were more new features from system 6 than OS X has over system 9. there is a really good article in one of my old MacAddict magazines comparing the two releases but unfortunately, i threw away my entire collection of old MacAddicts before i went to college! err what a bad decision i used to read those macaddicts all the damn time. so in spirit, my vote goes to OS 7.

at this point i say osx simply becaue it is so nice to ba able to surf and not worry about your system being thrashed by some web site. that said, i favor 9 for games because i seem to get much better frame rates mb they will have compatable frame rates in os XIX? Wink
but i voted for system 7 because it was the shit when it came out, and if i remember correctly one of the more stable releases that apple put out besides you cant count to 10 with out counting 7

Out of the list, OSX, for all the reasons already given.  Although, 10.2 does runn slower on the iBook then 10.1 did.

But, how could you forget the best of all.  System 6.0.8.  By far the most stable release that Apple ever put out.  And, more importantly, the last FREE release that Apple put out.  Say what you want for System 7 and it's major overhaul (and all the stuff from IBM's OS2 Warp), but System 7 was where the crashing really began, and didn't quit until OS X.  6.0.8 baby!  It wasn't fancy, but it worked and the price was right.  (but, my Mac SE cost me $4500 back then too for that killer 9 inch monitor and 20 gig HD on the 8mhz chip, yes, that's right EIGHT MEGAHERTZ and 1M of RAM)  But it could play the fuck out of "Ancient Art of War at Sea".  That was the coolist game.  That and Falcon.

OsX is great for gaming, there is no more need to restart the computer to improve FPS, and the damn thing won't crash. As far as user experience its great, it makes using a computer slightly easyer. Also Project builder is teh win.

Bad Brain.  Bad.  System 7 stable.  LMAO.  At 7.6 it was stable again.  But 7.0 didn't even last very long it was so unstable.

Yeah, the jump from System 6 to the intial System 7 release was a joke in some ways. The System 7.0 release was very similar to the OS X.0 release (hell, maybe even the beta). It had a ton of new features, but at the same time it was far from refined. But by the time of 7.6, we had one hell of an OS.

I voted for MacOS X although I mostly use 9 because it is much much much faster than X. But X is more compatible to other systems(thanks to Unix) and supports MP. I only use X because I need it for university but I still have all my important apps only in 9.

The thing I hate in X is that navigating also needs much longer compared to 9(I miss my apple menu sniff).

I would wish me a X with the performance of 9.

I am using Jag but it is nevertheless very slow compared to OS9. In my opinion it also needs to much RAM. But don't forget I am using an 1999iMac DV Se with 400Mhz and 386MB RAM so I can't compete with a 1.25GHz dual Mac

like when osx first came along, jag is optimized for g4 processors, not g3's.  10.1 and some of the tweeks they did were big steps in speeding osx on g3 systems.  i imagine that there will be a couple updates coming soon that will help 10.2 run better on g3's.  i see a big difference now on the two different systems.

and yes, osx does like the ram.  the more the better.

The automatic settings of RAM scares me in osx...I'd rather be the one to set the amount I want. Otherwise, osx is pretty good although games lag ass on my 8mb graphics card. I get wierd frame jumps in moh.

Use 9 for gaming and X for everything else.

About the lack of speed in X, you gotta realize that Apple has been spending their time and money on making X stable, not fast. The speed has improved, but only incrementally, while they've been adding features and doing behind-the-scenes work on other important, non-speed issues. My bet is that 10.3 will be much, much faster than 10.2, since there's less other stuff that needs doing now that 10.2 added much of the missing functionality to X.

Anyhow, my vote is for OS X. All the shiny buzzwords make me tingly, besides which, I'm all in favor of an OS that makes PC users and UNIX geeks alike buy Macs.

I pick both OS9 and X!

Reasons:
OS9-For older appys and games like MS Office 98,RS, and Diskwarrior.  Another resaon is that OS9 is more stable than OS X which crashes sometimes on my imac.

OSX-Face it X ownz 9 in everything, including new games such as GhR and MoH.  OS X also has a new style and with the release of 10.2, It's awesome...besides the Rogue Spear part.

Cheers,
