Anybody in the San Diego area, a friend of mine is gonna be hosting a LAN party sometime this month, probably after the 17th. Primarily PC, but RS, UT, and Q3 are all cross-platform, as are Blizzard's RTS games. I'm planning on bringing both my Mac and a friend's PC, in order to cover all the bases. : )

Anyhow, it'll be a three-day thing, starting on a Friday afternoon/evening, and held in the 2-car garage and big, empty living room of a house in Oceanside. We're trying to get everybody to bring a bit of cash ($5 to whatever, depending on your inclination) in order to pay for a huge ice chest of soda and possibly some pizzas. He and I are trying to get together as many people as possible. I've only been to 7-12 person LAN parties, so it would be sweet if this one was a really large one. BYOC if you can, and if you do, bring a length of Cat-5 (Ethernet cable). Hubs are also handy. Standard LAN party stuff.

E-mail me at mrlothario@san.rr.com or call me at (858) 748-0085 (ask for Nathan) if you'd like to be in the loop.

wow sounds like fun. i never have been to a LAN party before. i don't have UT and Q3 would i be able to get them from someone?

also i have a spare PC i can bring... would it be any uses? i can just bring it and keep it in my car if we need it.

perhaps i can bring some friend to...?

party info...
when will it be? how many people are we looking at that are going? 3 day party? how is the party ran? will it be a striaght 3 days or what hours are we looking at for playing? and just to get a idea what age group are the people that we should be owning?
i might have more questions later.

this should be a lot of fun.  i would look forward to the RS gaming where everyone wont have lag.

The more people who have a game, the more fun it is. There's seldom a problem getting a copy of a game installed on your machine at a LAN party.

If the PC can play games well, it would be excellent to bring. Most people will bring their own computers, but there will be some who can't, so extra computers are useful.

There shouldn't be any problem with bringing friends, as long as they won't demolish or burn down the host's house or anything like that.

The date is still not determined. Towards the end of the month. After the 17th. The first weekend after the 17th is the 20th, 21st and 22nd. This is by no means final, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was on that weekend.

I have no idea how many people will be there. I know a lot of people in the video game classes I'm taking at Palomar are interested, and they've got friends, and so on. It could be anywhere from twenty people to sixty or so. There's no way to really tell until we start collecting e-mail addresses from everyone. So, I dunno.

The LAN parties that I've been to started on Friday afternoon/evening about 5-7, ran until Saturday morning (around 4-6 AM), when everybody collapsed or went home to sleep, then people came back between about  2 to 4 PM on Saturday to continue. Late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, people go home to sleep again, then Sunday afternoon, they come back to pick up their stuff. Hopefully this party will not fizzle out on the third day like that, but instead will break up on Sunday evening. The host provides electricity, some networking equipment, and some tables. The guests bring computers, more networking equipment, and more tables. (Bring a card table, or two, or three. Chairs are good too. There's never enough to go around.)

The ages are all over the map. Probably from 14-30 or so, just of the people that I know are interested. ::shrug::

I don't think alcohol is real common at LAN parties. Nearly everybody wants their reflexes intact, you know.

As far as networking equipment, the participants bring what they have. Nearly everybody these days has some cat-5, so the guests bring the cable which will connect them to the LAN. If somebody has a big hub, they bring it. One guy who I think is coming owns a 64-connection hub expressly for the purpose of LAN parties, and I assume that he'll bring that.

Loth, I dunno if you played many people from gr. Seems like everyone drinks when they plays... Maybe its just me. I've heard many slogans "Beer is food" or "I'm sucking, lemme get a beer". Yah, anyway,  wish I could join you... but... Yah.... I'm 17... and... Sacramento... and... mom would freak... and... stuff
