I don't think they make rings that fit on thumbs, maybe he'll just have to have double duty on the ring finger. Still, its fucking impressive that he has 10 rings, even if he got 6 thanks to Jordan and 3 thanks to Kobe and Shaq.

*Foreseeing the Future* Cover of Sports Illustrated with Phil Jackson with a ring on each Finger after we get the 3Peat against the Nets!!! ?WOOOT!!! ?
Phil Jackson's picture would be the little one in the corner, with Scotty Bowman's being the headline... Scotty has a few more rings.... After wining this year, Scotty will have a ring for each finger... ON BOTH HANDS. ?He's won 1 as a player and 8 as a coach so far...
Here's a little snip for ya....
Bowman has been referred to by Sports Illustrated as ?the best coach ever in a major professional sport,? and a recent fan poll conducted by ESPN ranked Bowman fourth in the top 10 Greatest Coaches of the 20th Century.
So, no offense, but Jackson can take a back seat.

Uhh, Phil Jackson currently has 8 from coaching and 1 as a player, so if he gets another this year he would have more than your precious Scotty Bowman. Certainly wouldn't claim that Jackson is the best coach though, he's had the best players.

Oh, I thought you were counting this year. And you are the one who was saying Phil Jackson would be in the corner of the cover because Bowman would be the main focus (despite having no more rings). I guess it was wrong of me to assume that by saying he would be featured more promanantly that you were saying he has more rings.

Great, I don't see why one of the Greatest coaches ever winning a 10th ring deserves more notice than a coach that had great players and won a 10th ring.

And that is why I consider you an idiot...
You just said it yourself... one of the greatest coaches ever over one that just had some great players... which is more of the accomplishment? Which does SI praise in those accomplishments more? Why would I ever think that that trend would continue?

But if the guy is one of the greatest coaches of all time and already has 9 rings, why is getting a 10th so great that it needs to be praised. Maybe they'll have a split page Phil Jackson's hands with 10 rings on one side and Bownan's on the other side.

::Nets shut down Shaq::
It could happen...mb Kidd could stop Kobe....but mb not...I would like to see the Nets win but it's not gonna happen so like I said before when they started to play the Celts good job for getting to the finals.
Anyway these still could be some exciting games

At first I thought you were being sarcastic with your argument Bondo, but your persistence seems to indicate otherwise, in which case you are a COMPLETE AND TOTAL IDIOT. Last year Barry Bonds broke McGwire's record. When he hit 72 and 73 no one said, "Well, he already has 71, who cares about anymore." When could someone achieve something as amazing as getting 10 rings, I think you are going to bring it to light.

But my point is why is it more special for a guy who is one of the best coaches ever getting his 10th compared to any other coach?

I'll try to say this again then...
Reason one, you mentiond yourself... he's one of the best coaches ever, where as Phil didn't really have to coach all that much with the Bulls.
Reason two, because SI seems to think highly of Scotty. They tend to treat him with more regard then they do with Phil.
On the personal opinion side, I don't think Jackson was even close to the reason why the Bulls won their titles. They were there under Collins, but just didn't beat the Pistons that year (and the Pistons were damn good that year, so it's not Doug's fault). If you remember back then, it was Jordon and Collins not getting along that was the real problem in Chicago before Jackson... but the Bulls would have won titles just the same with Collins as coach. Whereas Scotty came in and pulled the Dead Wings back into a team that was in contention every year. He took a team with a bunch of offensive talent and would dissapoint every year and completely changed it to a team that could play on both ends of the ice and win. Scotty makes a big difference in close games... switching up lines and getting the Wings to win games against teams that have more talent or are faster then them. He's brings the complete package to the team... when he leaves, the Wings will go down hill quickly... they'll have to rebuild completely. Where, in my opinion, there were lots of coaches that could have coached the Bulls or the Lakers to titles. Any coach besides Bowman behind the Wing's bench and the Av's would have been in the Finals... Because the Av's got out coached more then out played (except in that last game).

Grifter, there is one fatal flaw in your arguments. Phil Jackson is a good coach for the fact that he is going to win his thrid title in a row with the Lakers. You will say to me "but the Lakers have Shaq and Kobe, they should easily win." But the flaw with that argument is that Shaq and Kobe were already together before Phil arrived. The Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the Spurs before Phil arrived. Rambis and Harris both failed to win titles with the dynamic duo, Phil hasn't even lost a playoff series with them. Also, whoelse but Phil could have quelled the tempest that occured when both Shaq and Kobe began openly fighting in the media?

Grifter your wrong he is and was a very good coach...he did have to work with the Bulls. ?He had to make them belive they liked people like Dennis Rodman and make it a team. ?And they did get into plenty of trouble where they needed his help especially in that last championship run where they were in a game 7 during the playoffs and Karl Malone gave them a run in the finals.
They also started that season 7-8 and he along with Scottie Pippen were able to turn that around to at 62-20 record.

I love how people are counting the Nets out before the finals even begins. This happened when everyone said "The Nets are going to get ownd by Pierce and Walker". Boy did I prove them wrong. I am sticking with my bet, Nets in 7.

Ult, you stop Shaq, and Kobe rapes you. You stop Kobe, and Shaq rapes you. There is no way the Nets are going to win...the only time Shaq faced NJ, he put up 40 and 10...you aren't going to stop him. (Todd MacCulloch was raped by Shaq during the finals last year when he played with Philly)

Sin and Infection, I didn't say Phil was a bad coach, just that he wasn't a great coach (or near the top 10 of the last 100 years). Yes, he's actually been coaching at LA, and you'll notice I didn't rag on his performance there... only in Chicago, where he won most of the titles. Collins made that team, built it up, and Jackson was just there to step in (this is my opinion)
As for his ability to make people like Rodman... lmao, Rodman was loved in Detroit, but then again, he didn't get away with jack shit here, because Chuck kept him in line much better then any other coach has since. Hell, you'd always here that Rodman was late for pre-game and fined $$$$, but that would be the end of it. Daily new how to keep him under control. Rodman was also a better player when he played for Detroit... again, just my opinion, but he was much more focused on the game back then.
So, while Phil Jackson has a good track record of coaching teams with much talent on them (maybe he's very good at stroking ego's), I don't think he's actually in the same league with a coach like Bowman (or Bobby Knight, or Lombardi, two of my other fav's) Besides, Bowman already has one other thing on Jackson (unless I missed a press announcment somewhere)... Bowman is already in the Hall of Fame (one more reason that he stands out is all).
One final note, could Phil end up being a better coach then Scotty... sure, maybe... only time will tell though. There are more to it then just the rings, and Bowman has done it all well for a long, long time. We'll see about Jackson. He could be.
