GR3 and why it sucks

i hope i'm not the only one with this opinion., but GR3 SUCKS! sure, it's OSX compatible, but i coulnd't give less of a shit cuz i'm still in OS9. As for why it sucks, here's the first few rreasons i find:

1) It's slower.
2) You can't get a regulay list of games easily, it takes like 3 or 4 clicks from main menu to get a full list of games.
3) It's not as fast
4) the whole layout is funky
5) It's a good bit less speedy
6) To get non-graphical pings you have to change your prefs.
7) Did i mention it's SLOWER?!

there's a dozen other little things but i gotta go, just felt the need to post.

i know, but still. by the time something reaches preview aka public beta, it usually means what you see you can pretty much expect to find in the finalized version, save a few bug fixes. And in all fairness to GR3, all versions of GR have been running slow today. Still, i highly dislike the new game finder system.

there's some nifty featuers, but the real meat of it, the game slist, is kinda.. uhhh.. funky. i s'pose i may like it in time, but as for now i still think the plain list works best.

Well Anarchy just press on the my games folder/ all games and you can view all your games together as in GR2. At all I love the look and feel of GR3 still some minor issues which I have sent to Scott. Maybe he likes my ideas as well (I hope so )

i dunno, i just subscribe to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset. I was very used to the old version, and it was incredibly utilitarian. Sure, it wasn't pretty, but it worked. and it worked well. need a game list? BAM! right there on the left. Chat window? in the middle. Player list? on the right. the over/under split of the game list/chat window doesn't work too well. if tehre were an option to go back to side to side....

Wow, lots of harsh opinions for something that?s still in Beta?

First, almost no beta tests are optimized for speed.  Usually it?s just at the level where most major bugs are gone.  Combine that with the fact that yes, his server was overloaded yesterday (even the old app was laggy in chat, in case you didn?t try it!)

Second, yeah, like anything else, there are things I like and don?t like about it.  But just like old GR, once you have it set up the way you like it, (numbered pings, the ?all my games? list, etc) it stays that way until you change it.

Thrid, things I like and don?t like:

LIKES
The Buddy List is now alphabetical.
He?s done a bunch to improve the look with even the icon in the dock not bouncing to get your attention, but showing a symbol of why.
That you can change the size of the panels, making the chat area smaller then the games (good if you aren?t into chat as much as games).
He?s put the servers for the games you have in the same menu as the hosted room games.

DISLIKES
Well, my major bitch would be in the new private messages.  They pop up as the active window instead of just being in chat if you respond?.  and the worst part, they become the ACTIVE window (yes, I?m repeating myself)? so while I was typing in one window, it became buried behind 4 other PM windows, and my typing went into one of them.
A minor bitch would be that it feels more crowded on the screen now.
Another minor bitch would be that I can?t seem to not show a game I have in the games? I don?t want to delete the game, but I don?t play it on GR, I used to be able to uncheck it in the list of games and those rooms wouldn?t show up.

All in all, I think that it?s going to be a better product.  Working with OS X is by far the best part of it (since RS and GR are the only times I even use OS 9 or Classic on my computers).  With all the new games coming out for OS X, only RS will keep be using OS 9 at all.  But RTCW, MOHAA, and MOO3 will be changing how much I play RS anyway.

The old version was utilitarian eh?  It worked to improve general happiness?

Anyway, I think the buddy list should be included in the main window as well, maybe on the left, I don't like having the buddy list seperately because it always gets lost behind other windows.  I say have the chat middle, buddy list left, user list right and game list top and you'd have a fine set up.  I actually like having PMs pop up because I'd have a heck of a time trying to find the people PMing me sometimes.  I also like that they include the RtoCW servers among others.  Really, my only complaint is the buddy list placement thing and it isn't specific to this version.

I think the new GR is pretty cool.  The os9 version looks a lot like the osX version.  The only problems I see is that it does look a little funky and it's going sooo slow right now because of the downloads.
