Basically, I've got a problem, on my spinning reel: When I get any fish on over about 30lbs, and it starts to take out line, My reel won't let me tighten my drag, I took it to the shop, and got it looked at and rebuilt, Most likely,  you won't know, however, any suggestions?

It's the reel not the pole, however, thanks Casper, for the reply.

First off: It's not "No" it's "know".
It's a heavy weight pole and reel, the reel is made to handle 50lbs test line, I've only got it set up with 15. There should be no problem there, I got new line earlier today. Could it be the weight of the lure? I've been useing Pink Pixxies, with 2 medium weights on it for farther casting...

I took it to Western Auto and had them completely dismantle it and take it into pieces, clean it etc. They said that it's fine, try and fish with it, same problem.

Well Typhy, first tell me what kind of reel you're dealing with.  I got an ambassedour 6500 with 15 lb test I use to slay Calicos in So. Cal.  I dont get much trouble with it, but I can tell you that it is always wise to set your drag before you cast out.  In other words, do a pull test by hand.  You should be able to push that drag when you pull hard, but not soft.  Once set, you're least likely to run into problems with it.  Also, your reel has drag shoes.  These shoes wear out more or less like brake shoes.  They need replacement and can cause troubles similar to yours.  With all this said, post back up with more specifications on the reel you're having trouble with. Cool

Well, I don't deal with smaller reels, but if it designed like a heavy duty reel, I would have you look at the line lock...that is what catches the line and makes it jerk back. But then again, I dunno if they are on the reels for smaller fish.

I will get the details later, I had a really nice one that I had spend over $100 on, however, first time using it, I took it out on the boat, we use them at times to try and get pinks who come close to the surface, I lost it over the side. So I am on my old one, I really should get a new one.
