i was bored today(slow forum day) so i started thinking(like all good brains do) and i got to thinking about rs(different tatics to try when i get the time)then i got to thinking about the players(and some of the fun games i've had over the years) and then i thought about the names, and what they mean. i also realized that we havent had a nice, non serious thread in awhile, and i thought that i would try to lighten things up in here.
ok, down to buisness
i'll take a gamble and guess that everyone's name here has some sort of meaning to them, i know my screen name has a story, and i'll bet that everyone has a reason for their's well(after all you chose it) so i 'm asking everyone who wants to, to come on out and tell us why you chose your name, what signifigance it has(if any) and any other interesting tid bits(about your name plz. let's try to keep this focused here) that you feel compelled to share

ok, so here's my story

first of all i was always the wiz kid in school, when i was struggling in kindergarden, they had me take an iq test, and instaid of finding me retarded(as the principle hoped, so i am told) they found out that i was basically bored. and as all little kindergarden kids do, they tease those who are different, and i was called the brain for the next 2 years(we moved out of that school when we moved to our new home)

now flash forward about 5 or 6 years
i log onto gr for the first time, and i need an icon. i start to look around on my computer, and didnt even get past the desk top when i saw the norton utilities icon sitting there, looking like your steryotypical genius, the memories came back, and then i had a name
it was: brainiac
but everyone called me brain, so i just shortened it up.

my name has had a few comic uses on gr my favorite was this one

brain causes <insert victim's name here>'s arm to punch themselves in the stomach. OOOF!!

and that was probably more info that you wanted to know about me, but hey, it was a refreshing change from my usual spam/borderline spam posts wasnt it?

p.s. if someone knows the meaning of grifters name, can you please share it? that is a question that i never got around to asking him...

I began as [janitor] Mort (My last name is Mortimer.  the kids in middle school shortened it to "Mort" for a nickname.  kids can be sooooo cruel!)

Needless to say I had a reputation for sucking as Mort.  But I greatly improved, enough to get into wrath's ?ber1337 *POD* clan.  But the name haunted me, so i switched to precious roy.

On MTV a few years back there was a puppet show called "sifl &olly"  Aside from sifl and olly, there were serveral other characters on the show, for example, "chester" the socially inept kid.  Also, there was the "precious roy home shopping network"  precious roy had a menacing voice, liked the indigo girls, and insulted both sifl and olly a lot.

I really liked the show.  Plus people also often confuse me for being gay, both on and off the internet.  So the name seemed fitting.

Well Brain your not completely right, about the chosing of the names.  Infection sounded pretty cool and was suggested to me by Wombat, so I took it.  Why not eh?  I'm not very good at making things up.

Also Bondo and I do enjoy changing our names around =)

The marines are so good they took a jeep into some Iraq village trying to get ambushed, they refueled 6 times and did everything they could to get ambushed. and didn't!
Then the same people take in a army jeep and try not to get ambushed and they do. but the marines kill them all and go home.

A blast from the past...

« Reply #7 on: July 22, 2002, 12:53:00 am »

Well, back in the day a few years ago on GR while playing R6, I was terrorizing people under the name destroyer (ok, maybe not terrorizing people but getting my ass handed to me by everyone who had skill in the day). One day while this was happening, the song "Rock Superstar" by Cypress Hill popped onto the radio. About halfway through the song, it says "assassins" several times. So that got me thinking...

At the time when I was named destroyer, there were some 5 other people with the same exact name. So I did a search on GR for the name "assassin" and lo and behold, there were none. So from then on I changed my name to assassin and have since become one of the most imitated names throughout gameranger  Wink.

As for the history of how my bro (sNiPeR) and I created the clan name PsYcO, that will be saved for another time.

P.S.: If anyone can figure out the former identity of the clan leader of PsYcO on the MSN zone, it would be appreciated. He tells me that he named his clan after mine after playing on GR during the summer of 2001.

lets see.. when me and my bro started, we used MGS charachters, because MGS just kicks ass. We used "Sniper Wolf", "Gray Fox", "Meryl Silverburgh", and prolly a couple others. I kicked around a couple other names i had used, my AOL names "TheMax2", "Maximilian The Great", and "spazmotik" but they didn't really work.

So, time marches on and i start listening to Anti-Flag. And then the fateful day comes when, in one big swoop, i start *NADS and become Capt. Anarchy all at once. While, of course, listening to Anti-Flag.

I've probably had over a dozen of different nicknames, but something tells me I gotta hang on to this one. The reason for that is because it suits me best. Let me explain. 'Beefy' is a synonym for fat or big. 'Figure' - in one way or another - ?is the shape of a person...
I think it's pretty obvious from now on.

Just a reminder;
-Beefy.

as for the name grifter it apparently comes from the n/v grift, which means to cheat or swindle... so essentially it means swindler, but i dunno where he was going with it  Huh

Well we had 2 Clemens in my class so I got a short version of my family name Mautner Markhof. First they called me Mautner but I didn't like it because it sounds "hard" so we changed it to Mauti.

LoudNotes is more than just my identity for rainbow six...it is my entire online persona.  Thus I subject you to my origin tale Cool

Originally, about 4? years ago when I first got email I needed a screenname.  I decided it should be something that represents me and what I like to do, and at that time I was very active in martial arts as well as playing music.  I wanted my name to reflect those two activities.  Finally, I settled on "notestriker", which remains my email today.

If you think about it..."notes" are things you play in music and "striker" is someone who hits things.  However, it looks like crap with 2 s's so I kept it as you see above.

Anyway, that doesn't explain LoudNotes.  About 2?  years later...these things all run together...I discovered AIM.  I registered for it through the netscape site so that I could have a webmail account to use for backup and traveling.  Anyway, I was very happy with notestriker, so I tried to register.  Unfortunately, I was having connection problems that day, and I thought it failed.  However, it actually had worked and I'd registered the screenname, but I didn't realize that for a few months.  I think I also registered Notesstriker by accident...but I don't remember either of the two passwords for those sn's.

Anyway, I had to decide on something else.  I had given up tae kwon do by that point, so music was my primary activity.  Nowadays I could add some more things to allude to, but anyway, LoudNotes seemed fitting.  I believe I'm equally adept at playing softly, but there is a certain rush that comes from crisp and clear soaring trumpet melodies at high volume Smiley

So LoudNotes became my AIM screenname, and once I got used to it, it seemed the appropriate thing for all my online communique.  As far as I know, no one else has come close to it, except for a friend who was so taken by the name that he became "Powernote"

So anywhere else you see a LoudNotes, it's probably me  Grin

However, when I joined #SKUL in r6, everyone else had a new name that they used only for that clan.  So I figured I'd pick something rainbowsix-related.  ModMan referred to my propensity at the time for experimenting with game modding, and later reviewing the mods of others.

I was never good enough for POD...so any curses my name(s) might have had stuck with me my entire playing career.

Thank you.

My name has deep meaning and significance. Actually no. I will tell you the story of Cossack. I am a very patriotic Russian. Cossacks were rebelious mercenary horsemen that reigned the steepes. My family is part of the Don Cossacks group. They had a reputation for being feirce, very wild, and in most respects crazy and unorthodox. They were heroes of Russia, and defended her valiantly, and attacked her meceisly. All the virtues of Cossacks embodies me. So when I went to America, I moved to NYC. Some very educated kids started calling me Cossack. I found the name fiting because I am wild and crazy. And as you can tell I play Rogue Spear in a very unorthodox style.

Good luck!

I reached 2nd dan (well, "poom" actually because I was under 16).  However, there was a change in the school leadership after that and I stopped taking...and moved on to other interests.

Keep up with it though - I don't remember a whole lot nowadays...

Also, are you taking the Kukkiwon certification test or just the one offerred by your school?  At mine we had a choice - I recommend getting Kukkiwon certification because then your degree is internationally recognized.

and ty for the luck, hopefully, i wont need it
