End of the line for the Powerbooks. They always do a small boost and a price drop before a MAJOR revision.

Note worthy:

-Scroll Pad
-Bluetooth 2.0 (3MBS) built in all (EDR)
-Airport built in all (like always)
-512 MB RAM STANDARD (on all)
-8X Superdrive
-5200 RPM now standard, no 7200s available

This isn't a very small boost - there are a lot of big changes - take a look at apple site there is a hell of a lot more changed than just a bit faster G4 processor. I think this showss there there is not going to be G5 laptops in the near future. U don't do a revision like this and then straight away release a massive upgrade.

Ive we had seen the price drop - if there had been reports of very low supply and if there had been basically no revision then i would have thought it would be pointing to the end of the line and the rumours about the G5 would be rife again

Old technology thats added via firmware updates isn't big BFG. You probably bought a 3G 40 GB iPod before the 4G came out.  Lips Sealed  Did you think the January 2003 Powermac G4s were amazing?

The key point is the price drop. They always do that before a major REV.

Also Noteworthy:

-SMS Stolen from IBM
-9700 over-clocked to hell with dual link DVI.

... Yeah i bought a 3G ipod because i wanted a ipod... its like saying don't buy a 4G ipod now because they will upgrade them one day!  stupid

Aaanyway:

ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 with 128MB of DDR SDRAM and dual-link DVI  oh and of course 1.67GHz... plus BT2.0 and faster superdrives

Thats a little more than a firmware upgrade wouldn't you agree?

The Slow HD's is a bit of a freaking bugger though... not quite sure why the hell they have decided to do that.

Quote
Introduced in January 2003, The PowerMac G4 (FireWire 800) was primarily a speed bump of the G4 MDD line, although it did include several architecture enhancements. The most exciting new features were the inclusion of a single FireWire 800 port, internal support for the BlueTooth wireless standard, and support for the AirPort Extreme wireless networking system. AirPort Extreme was the Apple moniker for the 802.11g standard, which supported speeds of up to 54 Mbps and was backward compatible with existing 802.11b/AirPort devices.

The PowerMac G4 (FW800) represented the fastest and least expensive line of PowerMacs Apple had ever introduced. The 1.0 Ghz model, with 256 MB of RAM, a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, a 60 GB hard drive and a 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce4 MX graphics card, sold for $1499. The dual 1.25 Ghz model, with 256 MB of RAM, a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, an 80 GB hard drive, and a 64 MB ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card, sold for $1999. The high-end dual 1.42 Ghz model, with 512 MB of RAM, a CD-RW/DVD-R drive, a 120 GB hard disk and a 64 MB ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card, was a modest $2699, making it the cheapest high-end Power Mac ever.

The PowerMac G4 (FireWire 800) was discontinued in June of 2003 and was replaced by the PowerMac G5.

Yes. Unless you want to be like GS and not reply to any evidence.

Give me a bloody chance to read it  before you double post it first lol.

Allrighty only thing i would say straight up is that i doubt that Apple would release a iBook G5 and a Powerbook G5 simultaneously - firstly because of the demand of processors (they don't want to stretch supply to the towers) and because i have still yet to see any evidence that suggests that Apples techs have overcome the problems of putting the G5 processor into laptops...

Unless of course it has been a huge smoke screen, they have a completly redesigned masterpiece of a G5 laptop just being finnished off as we speek, in production and getting ready to be annonced and start shoppin in the 2Q of 2005.... hmm  lol

I would expect them to pull a PM G5. Announced WWDc shipping in September, PowerBook G4 lineup still available until early 2006.

lol @ GS.

As for bobby, worst part is the 167 MHz bus which basically ruins the Powerbook. Wooo wooo it has moved a whole 67 MHz since the powerbook G4 was originally made.

Yeah there is no doubt that is what really holds back all sub G5 computers - ive continued to upgrade and look after this comp but the one thing that holds it back is the bus - i can just see the single decker, driven by a 68 year old granny from Stratford, foot on the break crawling along the single lane road.. the bus absolutely jam packed...  and then u see it being over taken by the G5 bus, a triple decker coach with bar and in house cinema, just a couple of guys steeping on and off in quick regular fashion.

The g4 bus arrives 45minutes late and manages to hit a puddle just at the point that im waiting to get on board. The G5 bus was so fast that i arrived late and it had already reached its destination.

baaaaa i think im insane. time to get back to work.

That's a lot of British speak for one comparison, but a very accurate one. Freescale needs to bump the G4 bus to at least 500 MHz for it to become a viable processor in the future.
