The legendary Jam Master Jay was shot last nite at a recording studio in his hometown, Queens.  He was 37 years old.  RUN DMC is responsible for setting the pace in the Hip Hop world.  I know there's some of you who don't like Hip-Hop, so please, refrain from posting nonsense here.  I am very sad since I was a big RUN DMC fan since I was young.  Guess we all gotta go sometime, but the way some of us go out, it's just a damn shame.

RUN DMC is an all  time Legendary Group in the Hip-Hop Community and JamMasterJay's death will touch a LOT of people.  It's great to have known that he was part of the biggest move in the music industry worldwide.  His music will forever live and forever be heard, and known as the Pioneers of Hip-Hop!  There's still 2 of them left, but it won't be the same without JamMasterJay.

He was only 37?  They were around in the 80's, I would have figured him for much older then that.  He looked like he was in his mid 20's, 20 years ago.  I've never seen his reported age, I just find it odd that he's only 37

But, I don't think you could call hip-hop or rap "the biggest move in the music industry worldwide".  That is a stretch, by any means.

Sorry to see him go at any age.  Run DMC was groundbreaking and he did have a large effect.  They probably did more to bring RAP out in the mainstream and get it airtime then any other band of that genre back then.

Also, who shot him?  Over what?

i read an article in local paper about this... all it said is two men were let into his place, and they just shot him... reason unknown.

First time i remember hearing RUN DMC was back in... shit.. long time ago, when "Beavis and Butt-Head" was on the air still. Watched the christmas special, and they had "Christmas Time in Hollis" as one of the videos on there. That shit cracked me up.. one guy wearing a wall clock, another guys with 'bout 80 lbs. of chains around his neck. Damn that shit was funny. They just don't make rappers like that anymore... all of 'em these days are so... dull.

Yeah, Run DMC were known for their ADIDAS without laces (puh-my-a-didas) and usually wore black with some gold.  

For those that never listen to rap (unless strapped down and forced to, like me) you probably heard Run DMC when they did the remake of "Walk this way" with Aerosmith.

Oh, and I can't wait until next week when 8-mile opens up.  I'm so anxious to hear the reviews from people that think that was the shit.  (if I need sarcasim tags on that, then you just don't get it)

Run DMC was doing their good stuff when I was being born and up until I was about 4 or 5. Even still I know who they were and have wished that rap music had stayed that way.... but no now we have to listen to mr. wifebeater eminem and rappers with diamonds stuck on that teeth.... wow diamonds are so ghetto. Are you talking about Eminem or Kid Rock?  Kid Rock is from Taylor, or, as it's known around here, Taylortucky.  He's more the white trash hick represntative.

Eminem would be more the "Wigger" to abuse a stereotype, from Detroit.  Also, he didn't beat his wife, he pistol whipped the guy he caught kissing his wife.  Don't get me wrong, he's still a little wannabe gangsta with more attitude then brains (which is why I'm sure many people on GR will run to see this movie).  

Personally, I can't stand either one of them as people.  I can tolorate one or two songs by each, but would never bother to actually buy or download one of them.  Kid Rock used to sell drugs in a grocery store parking lot about 4 miles from Deadeye's house, and we have friends that went to high school with Eminem (they make fun of him too).  Both are fine examples of our great community here.  yeah.

Well I hate almost all rap, but Run DMC still gets my respect. They actually had some musical talent unlike most other people. It's amazing to look back on some of their stuff and wonder why they aren't talking about all their bitches and hoes or whatever. That and the Aerosmith collaboration rocked (even if the original was still better).

A local concert thrown by a radio station a long time ago, and RUN DMC was a suprize act.
They were pretty damn good. And yes most of us remember them from christmas in holis as capt pointed out, that tape rocked.
Wish the family and friends affected by the death.
