I noticed that Game Ranger automatically updated my app yesterday. Now I'm having all kinds of trouble joining and hosting. Anyone else experience this? I'm running 10.3.7

Is there any way to turn off the auto update feature. I find it invasive and annoying. I should be the only one who decides if anything on my computer gets updated!

You need the latest update to play on GR. I think you will probably need to reinstall.

I am running tiger and I have no problems.

If it had asked you if you in fact wanted to update your GameRanger, or you wouldn't be able to log in, would you have said no?

Is that, in fact, true? How would I know that? Where does it say that? Do you think it's right that an auto updating application should cause me to have to reinstall?

It's standard policy of most reputable software manufacturers to provide at least the option to turn off any sort of auto update. I bought and paid for my computer. Not GR. The user should get to say what goes on his computer, not the app.

Additionally, these same reputible companies usually provide a list of fixes within the updater environment. Yes, I know that it provides such a link in the main chat window, but that's only AFTER I updated.

All around lame.

lol...I know where you're coming from, but you better go take it up with Evill, buddy.  He's probably gonna say "you didn't have to install it in the first place...GR is completely voluntary."  Wink

why are you still on 10.3.7 anyways? the OS hasn't been updated without a reason. update to at least 10.3.9 (with Software Update, for free) or get Tiger and then reinstall GameRanger (trash the GameRanger Folder your prefs in ~/Library/Preferences/GameRanger Preferences). i'm sure it's going to work after.

but, i don't think this really has anything to do with the GameRanger update. nothing about GhR has been changed.

Update to 10.3.9, it's more reliable than even Tiger is for me right now, as I have just had a fatal crash in Tiger and am using my backup external HD to even run my computer right now.

I havn't had the first problem with Tiger.  I would venture to say that more people are NOT having problems out of it than the other way around.[/size]

it's just that the people who don't have any problems don't go into forums and say how great it is, it's always the people WITH problems that go and complain around. 99% of the cases it's the users fault anyways.

this is why people start thinking it's bad to update alhough there are many many more people WITHOUT problems.

Mine was definitely not my fault. I'm sorry if my mail application crashes and force quit causes my computer to fuck up. If I hadn't bought Tiger already, I'd wait for 10.4.5 or so before I even bought it. The only problem is now my Tiger disc is 2000 miles away in California. I'm going to have to wait until sometime in August to get them back.

I did a complete reformat of my hard drive before I put Tiger on it, and I've already had more problems than with Jaguar and Panther combined. I'll just have to be more careful I guess.
