Okay, my iTunes library was really filling up that second 250GB internal Hard Drive I bought so I decided to get a 400GB External Hard Drive.  Does anybody see any problems with me putting all of my iTunes on the External Hard Drive?  It's USB 2.0, by the way.  The main thing I was wondering is if the transfer rates would hurt me burning my music...I always store the music in full-quality AIFF and burn them that way as well.

Only thing that sucks is that I just started moving my iTunes folder from my internal Hard Drive to my new external Hard Drive....estimated time is 3 hours!

don't forget to change the location of your iTunes folder in its setting when it's done.

Yeah, I found out that one the hard way back when I bought my 2nd internal 250GB Hard Drive.  Luckely, I found Bucc on iChat and he told me what to do!

I do the same thing, GS.  So far, no side effects from keeping my tunes on an EHD.

GS, did you ever give Apple Lossless a shot? I know you have the king of all car stereo systems, but I heard it does sound just as good.

Well, my G5 came with a single internal 160GB Hard Drive.  I then added an additional internal 250GB Hard Drive.  Then I turned around and replaced the 160 with another 250GB HD.  Then I added the 400GB External HD.  So I use the first 250 HD for my system and applications.  I use the second 250 HD for all my files except music (pictures, movies, documents, etc).  And the 400GB is exclusively for my iTunes folder.  Today I finally got everything situated and it all works great.

God I love Macintosh.  If I had tried anything like this at work on the PC I would have already committed suicide out of frustration.

Large Photoshop picture files, home movies, all my music CD's in AIFF format, tons of documents, all of my work on the military web tributes (pictures, research, etc), etc, etc, etc.  Some of that stuff adds up really fast...like music CD's that you keep in AIFF...those files are huge.

Weeeel, my Applications folder alone is 15GB. Then Very large hi res PS images, Mountains of MMedia projects etc including images, vids, big audio files etc, Massive quantities of raw and compressed video footage which takes up obscene amounts of space. My entire music collection, 20GB of games.

all that said though one of the externals is used for transferring data about, good chunk of a drive is used primarily as a Scratch disk, and the RAID is part of a comprehensive back up system!!

movies, music,.... porn...  games.  I'm constantly burning things to DVDs due to lack of space.  I only have a 160 external, an old 20 external, and 60 internal.
