I have been having problems with the new mods (especially) with regard to having the program shut down giving me error 2 type messages. ?I own a iMac 500mz Special Edition w/ 620 ram. ?Does anybody know if the program should be shutting down frequently with the system I own? ?Did any of the recent mods have any bugs that would be causing this problem? ?How should I set my memory on the control panel? ?How much memory should I allocate to the program? ?Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

( i accidently posted this originally in the DAMN section, oops.)

I've got a G3/466 with 640MB RAM and I have had the same problem with a couple of mods - a recent example are the special missions in the Tex Spec Ops Arsenal mod, but I think that might be an issue with the original. The Bern Bank mission is the only other one that's given me any real trouble.

I've got 550MB memoryallocated to the program, but that's probably overkill...
Which mods are you having a problem with?

Specifically I was having trouble with the Renegade Total Legion, Tex Spec Ops Arsenal, Bernie's Collection recently.   Now the program will not even load without giving type two message and shutting.  Other previously mods have not worked to some degree but basically all was well.  Do I need to totally uninstall? Readjust memory?  What is ideal amount of memory allocation for game?  Should I readjust memory on control panel also?   Any insights?

Step one: Try throwing out your preferences file for Rogue Spear, this is usually the first thing to get corrupted, so you shouldn't need to do a full install.

Another possibility is to limit the number of mods you have in your mod folder at the same time (this also adds to the length of time it takes to load the game) just moved them into another folder called "Disabled Mods" or somesuch.

Renegade Legion has quit on me a couple of times, but usually when I'm in the middle of a game. the fact that it quits at the beginning makes me think it's your preferences, but try removing each of the mods one at a time and seeing if one of them is causing your problems. I convert dtuff from the PC myself, and sometimes even having a particular mod in the nod folder, even if it's not activated, will cause the game to hang. One more thing: Isn't Bernie's collection for R6? This could explain why that's not working...

hope that helps

Thanks I will give that a try.  I have tried several steps such as removing preferences but I was still having problems.  Additionally that Renegade TC mod basically drops at the end like you experienced.   How do you suggest I allocate memory?  How much difference does it make?

Actually, I'd be interested to hear what other people have allocated as well, but I've allocated 550MB pref/500MB minimum to Rogue Spear in my 640MB Ram Mac. But, as I said, this is probably overkill - but give it a try maxing it out...

And as for the Renegade Legion Mod, I have no idea what's causing it. It suddenly quits at the weirdest times - but maybe I've allocated too much memory...

I've always given it at least 200MB (I'm running a G4/450/DVD-ram with 512MB of ram).

OpenGL will never take a set amount of ram, since it's involved in the rendering on screen BUT normally the manufacturer's guess is pretty good for a memory allocation, and it'll give OpenGL room to work.

But you should always try to leave at least 45MB for finder in OS9...60 if you can afford it, just to leave room for background processes.

And yes, I've noticed the same exact problems as you guys with those specific mods (and my complaint that running RLTC (that's the sci-fi one, right?) is SO freakin slow in 1024x768).
