I'm having trouble setting up terrain specific uniforms for all specialists.
For example, I'd like to give Scott Ibrahim a jungle style uniform for jungle missions, instead of his woodland uniform.
I'll set up the actor and character folder, with the new uniform, but it won't show up.
Or if it does show up, it replaces the default uniform for the other terrain types.

So if I make the file c_scott_ibrahim.atr, it will not show up for the jungle missions,
but if its just scott_ibrahim.atr, it overrides everything.

And if I change the c_unlocked_heros file entry for scott_ibrahim to c_scott_ibrahim.atr the character is removed from all levels.

What should I do?

All the jungle (cuba) specialist actor files begin with the letter "c_", as you know. If you want to change the camo for that specialist, assuming you're using the same character model, you don't even have to edit the atcor file. Just do your retexture and change the chr files to reflect the new texture.

If you want to use a different model, just rename your model to the name of the one you are replacing. These methods don't require changing any actor file text, which reduces the potential for bugs in the text file and typos. Makes it easier to find the problem.

Thanks
But what I'm trying to do is give a uniform for a hero that wasn't part of the IT hero group. I want to have a full compliment of heros for each theater of operations.

Yep, all you'd have to do is rename your hero's chr files to whatever hero you are replacing, don't rename the texture file however, unless you plan on editing all the chr files to reflect the new texture name. Again, this is the easy way.

But then, the character will have the new uniform for all levels won't he?
What I'd like to do is give a hero like Jack Stone, who doesn't show in Desert Siege, a Desert Uniform for use in Desert Quick Missions instead of having him show up in his woodland uni.

I think I'm doing something wrong with the relationship between the three unlocked_heros file and the character and actor folders.

First off, forget about the unlocked heroes files, they do not need to be modified in any way.

Here's what you need to do here, I'll use an example and you can adapt it to your exact needs.

The actor\hero folder contains the specialists actor files, the first thing I recommend is copying/pasting the actor files from both Desert Seige and Island Thunder, as well as the regular GR specialists into the actor\hero folder in your mod. Now you have all of them in front of you.

Note: GR will AUTOMATICALLY use the desert specialists for all desert maps, same with the cuba specialists on jungle maps. This includes all modes of play including quick missions.

If you want to use the desert Jack Stone uniform in the standard GR roster, open up his desert actor file (c_jack_stone.atr), and copy the text into the regular jack_stone.atr file, replacing the existing text. You can mix and match these files all day, or you can create new specialists by pasting in text from other types of characters. You can also obviously change the kit path, stats, and face texture in the actor files as well. Experiment and see what you get.. Cheesy

I got it!

Scott Ibrahim's Tigerstripe is based on Wildcat's tiger pattern.
Dieter Munz's Jungle fatigue is a heavily edited version of his desert uni. The MG3 is Earl's, and the M25 is Projectile's

Thanks for the help Coco! Grin

Thanks  Grin
But Wildcat did the hard work on the tiger. I just made 'em short sleaves, and edited Scott Ibrahims face to go with, because I felt it fit in more with the IT characters.
For Dieter, I had to edit the chr file so that it would use the jungle skin instead of the desert skin. It was easier than I thought it would be.

Thanks
Here are some very simple texture swaps I did for Will Jacobs and Lindy Cohen
They basically use the same textures so to make a jungle Lindy, I gave her Will's IT texture (edited slightly) and for desert Will, I just gave him Lindy's DS texture. I know these are simple, but I figure other people might want to do the same thing.

I did a desert Susan Grey, but I wasn't pleased with it. She needs a boonie hat I think. I'm also working on a desert Klaus Henkle, and I think I'll redo jungle Dieter. I think I'll try one of the models with a boonie hat.

If I did that, it'd be "justifiable homicide" for my wife! Cheesy

Here are my Germans
Dieter has a Jungle support uniform, heavily edited, with a little help from Baja's textures. Klaus has his uni heavyily edited, again with a little help from Bajabravo's textures.
Dieter's HK51mc is from DVS1, I've no clue were I got Klaus' G3.

Here is my first attempt at using a camo swatch I found on the web.
Its a Russian pattern used by Spetsnaz called "stairstep" I think.
I'm not exactly pleased, I used the overlay tool, and too much of the old pattern leaked through. Oh well more practice Cheesy

Say, anyone know good sites for camo patterns?

Here's my second attempt.

I think it came off a little better. I'm not sure it looks that great on him though.

Say, anyone know good sites for camo patterns?

Here is one that I have used, some good sized swatches, will find more and PM them to you I have a favorites folder packed with stuff.

http://www.imsplus.com/ims7.html

A google image search for the pattern you desire, is a good bet too. I'll also forward you some swatches that I have.

Oh I just found out the the "stairstep" pattern is actually the KLMK oversuit used by soviet snipers.

Ok here is Astra in the KLMK camo. Rifle is Earl's SVU.

As you can probably tell, I've been having alot of fun with this.  Grin
What do you guys think? What can I improve? I'm trying to develop my Photoshop skills beyond cut'n'paste.  Grin
