Well as most of you already know, Apple just released two new offerings.

First they released an 800 mhz TiBook. There were also a good number of other upgrades for that model. I love my TiBook, but man are those new ones sweet. If only I hadn't sold my soul to the devil for a donut, I would be able to trade it for a new TiBook.

Second was the "eMac." When I first saw the word eMac on Apple's page I was wondering why they felt like promoting a *nix text editor so badly. Then I saw the new computer. I still have mixed emotions on this one. The bigger screen is nice, and it is cheaper than it's new iMac counterpart, but I just still can't shake the fact that it feels like Apple took a step backwards on this one. What are everyone else's thoughts on this one?

There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I think apple did the smart thing...  last year, right before the big school buying time, they did some model changes and didn't have anything that looked good to schools (big reason that they gave to stock holders)...  Dell cleaned up on them.

Apple invented the education market for computers (or discovered if you like that better), and they learned a very important lesson last year... keep something cheap for the schools.  Here's a G4 with a nice size monitor for a very cheap price.  I don't think many students will be buying one... but the school systems will (CRT's over LCD's will be more attractive to schools too, since it's proven, and less worry that someone will break it).

There's a good article on the register about this too.

Oh yeah, I heard about the eMac. Doesn't the "e" stand for "education"?

i don't know about the rest of you, but im happy with apples recent releases.  Cheesy the eMacs aren't pretty, but  when was education ever pretty? I don't think it's going to be another cube-esque flop, because the eMac is sturdy, cheap, and has nice stats. Plus, Macintosh is the preferred platform of most educational institutions because of the limited array of virii able to infect a mac, the simplicity and ease with which one can use a a mac, and the sheer stability of the system. viva la eMac! but im sure as hell not getting one.

and those new TiBooks are sooooooo NICE!!!!  Shocked i can't wait to see what apple unveils at MWNY02.. I'm still waiting on a G5 =)
