Does anyone know how to bind the prerecorded messages in RvS to a specific key? The default system just takes too damn long to cycle through the options to get to the message you want.

Any ideas?

Well, I fiugred out a half asses way of doing prebinded chat messages.  Unfortunately they are without the voice (still trying to figure that one out).

1)Open this files in a text editor: Rainbow Six 3 - Raven Shield/Raven Shield Data/Save/Profiles/User.ini

2)In there you will see a bunch of key assignments.  To add a chat message just type 'TeamSay Message'

ex. To add 'Roger That' to the Number Pad 1 add this line:
NumPad1=TeamSay Roger That

This gives you team messages, to say to all subsitute 'Say' for 'TeamSay'.

This gives you text only chat messages.  If anyone finds out the way to bind the voice ones, they win the gold star.

I'll try to develop a list of key files that might help to figure this out:

Raven Shield / Raven Shield Data / System / R6RecMessages.int
Raven Shield / Raven Shield Data / Save / Profiles / User.ini
Raven Shield / Raven Shield Data / Sounds / int / Voices_PreRecorded.SB0

int's and ini's can be opened with textedit, but I will look for programs that open SB0's later.

Just a thought.

Perhaps this belongs in the modding section. I think people might be more helpful there.

I'm betting the SBO files are just their custom sound file format by looking at the files sizes, etc, just like RSB is red storms custom image format.  Probably not a whole lot of need to get into these, but it probably wouldn't be to hard.  AIF and WAV files are 99% the same, it's just the header information that's different.

I wrote aspyr asking for help...we'll see if we get any Wink

The file R6RecMessages.int in the System folder controls the voice messages.

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, what the heck do I do with that files?

R6RecMessages.int lets you change the ingame messages. For example, one of them is GO,GO, GO Move it out. You can edit it with TextEdit or SimpleText.

Splinter means that you can hit say the '1' key on the keyboard to say something like 'Tango Spotted!'. How would you go about doing that?

Yeah, im looking to beable to hit one key and have one of the prerecorded voice messages trigger, as opposed to having to cycle through the different menus to reach them.

As far as on the PC side, i have yet to see anyone say how to do this, although there a few programs out there that configure it for you, so it is possible.  unfortunately those programs are only for PC (of course).

Hey Splint,

I might have the answer for you.

Buy a Belkin Nostromo Speedpad N50 like I did, or the new N52 (shown below).
The software that comes with this nifty gadget allows you to assign macro's to all the keys and buttons of the Speedpad. For the people not familiar with macro's: a macro can perform multiple actions in a row with the touch of only 1 button.

thinking about it, i think most of the PC programs that bind the voice to a key are just running a macro.  You have to leave them active and running while RvS is running, so odds are they are just macro's running in the background.  Either way, the speed pad macro assignment works like a charm.  Thanks again Dutch!

I just wanted to say thanks Dutch--Thanks alot for posting about the N52.  I've seen this before but I never thought that I would ever come to buying one.  I just wanted to say--I bought one last night.  The pic sold me.   Grin

I think it will take alittle bit of time for me to get used to it.  But I can see it making a big difference in the future.

It really takes time to get used to. But when it does, it really can improve your gaming skills. It's also very helpfull for people with only a 1 or 2-button mouse.

Holy shit! Ok for a moment i thought that thing was a mouse on acid which had had sex with a very attractive keyboard... i even thought "wow! thats a lefthanded baby as well!" Alas i see now for those of us that were graced with the use of our left hands over our right hands that this little gizmo will be no joy Sad

Just imagine if it was a mouse - all those keys at your fingertips - plus your keyboard... heh

FYI this is the official response from Aspyr:

Hi,

Thanks for choosing Raven Shield. We do not support any any  modding or
binding of any voive files. To access voice taunts you can press V in the
game and it gives you radio messages to choose from.
Thanks for the email and Have a Nice Day!!
