A 2.5 Duel Core DP G5 would send shivers down my spine... and i think that would do me nicely given the long wait for the really good intel macs that will replace them (which i don't think will be the first release, but more likely the first revision) ...  depends though will be interesting!

Rgr that Shade - well this machine it think (defo if it can top out at 3.0) would make a really nice machine for those of us that didn't hit the G5 bandwaggon yet, but can't face waiting until the end of 2006 / 2007 to upgrade our main machines.

We'll never see a PM G5 with 3 or more Ghz.

Did you read the article? The new dual-core processors by IBM only have 1.4GHz to 2.5GHz. So, IF the rumor is correct and Apple updates the PMG5 line with these processors... they obviously won't have more than 2.5Ghz. Probably a much better performance than the current single core modells, but in terms of Ghz they wouldn't be higher. And Apple would surely not update the PMG5 line another time (after this, IF they do it at all), to maybe 3Ghz, before the Intel-Macs.

I wonder about what kind of market there would be for a quad-CPU system.  I can't imagine that there are too many people that would be using such a machine to its fullest, since there really aren't a huge number of applications that are developed to be so massively (mm...relatively) parallel.  Not currently, at least.  There are certainly cases where it'd be a win, but I think most people wouldn't see a difference.

That’s true Cobra. Most people who has these dual G5’s never get to use the second processor. But they spend a lot of money on something they think will make them better at whatever they do  Wink

... Or into a tree at 90mph Wink

Still there is definatly a demand for it, and if your using apps that will take advantage of a MP set up, well according to that link you can see a 50-80% speed bump
