Different people prefer different things but this is what I use...

**Basic**

>Adobe Photoshop 5.2
Used for all texture work. You need to download the .RSB plugin so it will read the Rogue Spear .RSB bitmap file format. The plugin is free from the Redstorm site.

>Kahei HEX Editor
Used for editing the .CRP files which hold the info for the skin's texture filenames. The names in the CRP file must match the filenames of the actual textures, and you cannot alter the length of the filenames, only change the characters. This is the original method, although there is an editor by Mike Schell which simplifies this process somewhat, I prefer the old way. Any HEX editor will work pretty much, but some are better than others.

>Windows Notepad
Used for all editing of text files, including the uniforms, sideswatch, and models files in the kit folder, as well as all .eq files (files that hold armour info, encumberance), etc etc..

**Advanced (For editing the actual character's 3D model)**

>Milkshape 3D from chumbalum soft, a simple character editing application which I use to edit the character models.

>Mike Schell's DXF<=>CRP convertor
Converts CRP (3D character model format) to Autocad DXF format so it can be edited and saved in Milkshape 3D. After they are saved, use this to convert them back to crp format. Very cool tool, I put this to good use for RLTC, all of the character models were modified this way.

Yeah I use MAX, but Grenade Man only asked about the apps for making skins.... I use 3D studio MAX version 3 for all weapon models, etc... and Photoshop for the textures. Usually takes me longer to prepare the texture than it takes to make the model at this point, lol Wink

Yeah Ive noticed that myself, I can do a weapon within 2 hours but then again Im doing fairly low poly as my machine is only a K62 400. Ive never tried skins or characters so I only need max and photoshop.
