I have a G5 iMac 20" running the latest 10.4.2.

I have a exteranl 250gb drive that just houses my music, so it gets used constantly as I play my iTunes.  Here is my problem.

When I plug my iSight in- even when i have the lens closed- it draws so much power that when when I try to use it draws too much power away from my external that it causes it to unmount from my iMac.

Yes, they were plugged into two different ports.  I also tried plugging the iSight in throught the FW port in the external drive, but now the iSight doesnt draw enough power to b usable.

Ideas as to how I can use both of these?  Right now I've had to unplug one or the other when i have to.

I have the same problem on my PM G5. I can't use the both FW-Ports at the same time, particularly not the iSight and my external HD. I got myself a FW-Hub with own power supply, that fixed it pretty much. Sometimes I still get errors, though, when I transfer very big files to or from the external HD, but at least not nearly as often anymore. I then simply disconnect the iSight, no big deal since it's not that often.

yeah, i also had the same problem on my G4 dual 867... I just am tired of having to plug or unplug... i bought my iSight to USE it and not just when Im not using my external.  I'm feeling like a hardass at the moment, so "dealing" with it isnt an option.

UPDATE:  I noticed my firewire drive had some small LED lights that illuminated it it... I grabbed a screw driver, dismantled the fucker, and cut the wires that provided the power...  now im using both my drive and my iSight.... I hope that did it.

A simple FW-Hub with own power supply would've been easier and you wouldn't have to play around on your HD. Tongue And I doubt the little LED makes any difference anyway.

It was 3 connectors with about 28 LED's.... i doubted that it could have been the problem, or that it would help, but hey it worked.... so far.....
