Character Creating Question

ok, if you ever have taken a look at all the pic files in the character folder (rsb converter) for fun, and seen the faces on the guys: how do they make it curve around the whole head like that? Is it a panoramic camera? I wanna make my own face on a dude, so if theres like a filter in photoshop or something, pls help. Thanks.
