Title: *DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: Civrock on March 07, 2004, 04:33:28 am
hey guys,

if anyone discovers a bug or has any problem with the new mappack v2.0... post it here in this thread! :)

I tried out all of the new maps in Mappack 2.0 and have the following problems:

1.  DCA Tower 2.0 crashes as soon as I start it.

2.  HXMP Jungle Highlands 2.0 crashes as soon as I start it.

All of the other maps started properly.  The only mods I have active are *DAMN BL Mappack 1.5 and 2.0 and Desert Siege.  Desert Siege has highest priority followed by Mappack 2.0 and then Mappack 1.5.

Computer I am using is a 1.8GHz PowerMac G5 with ATi Radeon 9600 Pro and 2.5 GB RAM.

I can't install this mod, I downloaded the .zip and unarchived it no problem there, but the .bin file won't open. Please help.

EDIT: To fix this, right click (or control+click) and open with stuffit expander rather than toast.

Greetings..

Yeah it seems the mission files for both dca towers & jungle highlands need to be updated...
Does anyone get wierd rainbow pixel looking trees on that map?....
Also in the updater, wanted to update the FB maps to use snow uniforms...

What does everyone think of em? Do they suck ? Do they kick ass ?
Feedback is always welcome...I know everyone is a critic but, just eager to
see what yall think?

Strange because both missions are working fine here in adversial multiplayer. No problems during the beta tests and now I tried it again without any issues.

Ghost Sniper make sure that the *DBL MP 2.0 has the highest priority, followed by *DBL MP 1.5 and DS.

Btw the Ghost Recon mod list is inverted so the mod with the highest priority is at the bottom of the list.

Revolt did you also experience crashes on these maps!? During the beta tests too???

Bye,

Mauti
ps: Ghost Sniper did you ever got the calendar?

i heard from several people already that these maps crash for em... solution was: they didnt read the description/readme and tried to play coop. some maps work only in multiplayer and some not with coop.

Yeah, maybe that was my problem, I think I was trying them out in one-man firefight.  As for priority, I did have Desert Siege set to the highest priority, so tonight I'll make Mappack 2.0 higher and try it again.

Yes Mauti, I did get the calendar....VERY NICE!  Thanks!

Crashing only occurs when playing Coop on some of the maps. The maps were done with Solo and Team play in mind.

If you try to play some of the maps in coop or against tangos it will crash because some of them originally require Island Thunder for coop and single player...

I've noticed, that not all maps works with WZ..

As for priority.. In the mods list inside options of GhR.. (Remember, You only need to activate mods when hosting..)

DS
DMP1.5
DMP2.0

This is how it should be listed in the mods list.

The maps require a bit more of my GFX card, than most of the "old" ones.. But all in all.. VERY nice maps!   ;)

I've notice another thing.. The uniforms sometimes don't change when they should.. And I don't find them too equal. Blue pants & White shirt (Or the other way around) versus regular camo is not too cool.

Check out the 'Urban Ghost' skin mod. (And listen to the music, heheh.) Cooool camo's, and good switching. Maybe You can use some of the stuff in it.. Dunno.. Just a suggestion.   ;)

What maps are having problems with Warzone? The reasons the uniforms are unfair is that some of the maps are from Frostbite and some use Island Thunder as their base. The problem is easily fixed and will probably be fixed in an update. I say probably since I don't decide if there is a update or not.  ;)

Hey Guys, i had the problem with installing DMP 2 Earlier too... it wouldent let me open the zip thing... so i just re-downloaded it again, and it worked ...

+ if we could fix the Spawns, this is for like every map with the DMP 2 - so not soooooooo many sk's would happend :)

The Thing is that many of the spawns is near eachother and then you just cant stop sking :D

I've had a lot of people ask me if the warzone on the chalet map could be moved up (literally, upward) so that it is not underground. The spawn locations would be more fair this way, these sources argue.

Found a glitch bug...

FA and US did a practice match... and we played FSBM Bunker from frostbite... has a glitch... right at spawn i walked into a building and not only could see the whole map... but could shoot through it.... **HEADS UP***

WOW after playing more of these god forsaken maps.... i see more glitches and bugs...

How about that bug on chalet maybe its not a bug but.... u think its fair that a clan spawns with only one place to move? Not really that fair... at least with MP01 River u have a chance of running out of the waterfall either right or left....

Maybe change the spawn points of that map making it somewhat fair... not completly but at least giving that one clan a chance to move out other then once place?

BTs_eight: NEW MAPS BLOW! DOWN WITH THE NEW MAPS TILL NEXT SEASON AND TESTING!

I agree, no offence to Revolt or the maker of mappack 1.0 but ever since the mappacks were created the GhR BL has been going downhill. Don't get me wrong, I love some of the maps in 1.5 but if we would have just left the game how it was in the beginning I believe it would be much more enjoyable. Not that this is what Eight was saying at all, I'm just adding to what he said.

And im was getting bad fps even on the g5 on some maps

hmm, actually the GhR ladder became more active since the new mappacks. looks like one of the most active seasons so far...

Title: Re:*DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: BTs_eight on March 12, 2004, 04:07:47 pm
Actually the GHR ladder was most active without DBL Map Pack 1 & 2....

Clans would do over 50 cbs each... now your lucky if a clan has more then 25 cbs... so no it didnt make the league better.... and adding the map packs a week before finals just made it worst....

Especially with the bugs....

Title: Re:*DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: c| Splinter on March 12, 2004, 04:53:57 pm
Well, when clans used to have 50+ cbs, the season was also twice as long  ;)

seems like everyone has issue with this mappack being introduced now, just make an agreement with the clan before you CB, that you won't pick maps from the new map pack.

Title: Re:*DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: *DAMN Mauti on March 12, 2004, 05:20:20 pm
It's always the same. When something new is coming out everyone complains about it some points are valid some aren't and with the time everyone plays it and learn to like it.

I just remember the Warzone debate, the first BL Map pack debate and now the same with the second version. In comparison to the first map pack release this one has much less bugs and don't argue with that few maps have glitches because there is hardly an original GhR without glitching possibilities. Of course this can be annoying but unfortunaly it's unavoidable.

As Splinter said it you can both agree to play not any of the *DBL maps but there are many guys who enjoy the new challenge and map layouts.

Title: Re:*DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: BTs_eight on March 12, 2004, 05:34:44 pm
Diffrence betwen the old stuff being introduced and the new stuff...

The old stuff wasnt introduced 1 week before finals... always mid season or begining of season....

Also...
28. Rules concerning TIME LIMIT and DEFAULT NUMBER OF GAMES can be modified if both clans agree to it.
right? SO in regards to that rule... what u and splinter just said dont count....

P.S. Mauti you get my PM? OR elandrion?

Post by: *DAMN Mauti on March 12, 2004, 08:35:09 pm
Eight, yep I got your pm just no time to answer it.

About introducing the map pack 1 week before finals. The map pack was much beta tested from guys that play a lot, then I made it a public beta for a very short 3 day period but since in this time almost 1000 players downloaded it and no major bugs were reported I think why not introduce it to the BL.

The *DBL MP1 was introduced with season VI and had lots of zone issues that were fixed one month later(that's a long time) and although it had lots of bugs and issues most people liked it because it added new challenges to the game. Of course a few guys complained but once they got used to it they never complained again.

I think it will be similiar with the *DBL MP2 although its release was probably too surprising, as reactions here show, but bugwise it is very stable and every suggestion for zone point changes as well as bug reports are welcome and will be added in a later update.

About the maps: I think they are a good selection. The FB maps are great and aren't really new(I remember were almost every GhR hosted game was with FB on), Warehouse and Compound have a nice layout, Chalet together with Dam doesn't have the highest fps but CQB is superb on Chalet and Dam is a gigantic map for nice domination cbs, Shollow Creek is a smaller version of the unpopular Wilderness map and is a nice addition to the Creekbed theme. The DCA map is excellent for snipers and WZ/Siege games and fps wise very friendly although it's a big one. Highlands is just a map for hunting...

I don't see anything wrong with the selection. May the release was too late in the season but I think every season is the same so why not surprise and shock everyone with a new challenge that could change some ladder rankings.

As I said, see it as challenge and take it as a chance to improve your ranking by adapting very fast teamtactics for the new maps and beat the unprepared opponent ;)

Bye,

Mauti

Civic, I did'nt mean downhill as in less games being played. What i meant is the game is becoming less enjoyable, this may because of all the new clans and less veteran clans also partly. I'm not putting all the balme on the mappacks, but in my opinion they just are'nt as fun as they used to be.

Yeah everyone hates change, but it is inevitable...
Most  people were stocked to see new maps...
Bugs wil be fixed...

People always have something to say, which i understand...
If you dont like the maps...
It's easy.....

Dont play em...Heh....If your dont like what you see on TV what do you do?

I tried to put together a map pack to extend the enjoyment of ghost recon and the ladder...Most people always complain....So this type of thing i will no longer do...

The Maps were added to help ghr survive, but its those who put down, and dont give it a chance is what really kills it...

If you dont like em dont play em...simple...

Until then we can work together to make the spawns more efficient for next season...
Peace

Perhaps we should have an Embassy-Only ladder for all the whiney bitches who cannot accept change.  The new map packs are making things more interesting and sometimes more frustrating, but the downhill of GhR was happening way before map packs.  Seasons are shorter, people are getting burned out by GhR, RvS is now out, AA was finally improved for play on Mac, and this time of year keeps many people busy.  The next two seasons will most likely, based on past seasons, be the best and most active seasons we have seen since Season 4 & 5.

I love it when comments from unestablished players and unestablished clans make their way here in the manner in which they appear.  It just makes them all look like a bunch of noobs.  Try giving valid points with your argument, and maybe, just maybe, someone will listen.  Otherwise, you're just taking up space on this forum.  Think before you type folks.

OK, as for the Chalet map, I have already taken care of the smoke issue by relocating it to the top of the map instead of the bottom to make it more fair for the opposing team.  I had already emailed Mauti with the mod for Chalet, and Aramarth and Revolt also have a copy.  It has been tested and seems to work well for the most part.  So I believe if they make a patch for that it should fix that issue.

Now Revolt and myself were talking about bringing Eight with us to try and fix the things that were not done before this pack was released.  I will personally redo some of the spawn points for the maps with the help of Revolt and Eight as far as I know which we will be starting on next week.  I think this collaberation with some of the largest, oldest GR clans should make any issues of this DAMN BL 2.0 mappack disappear.  I know after I get off of work for the next few days I plan on working with them to fix the issues at hand, so if you guys would be so kind as to point out ALL of the real issues that you have with specific maps in this topic, that way we can get right to the issues and make sure we arent missing anything.

As for the random respawn issues I am not sure that is an easy one to fix but we will be working on that as well, plus we might even add a map or two that all 3 of us can agree would be a good addition to the BL mappack.  Of course all finalised products will be sent to Mauti for approval.  So plz, no bitching about the map's, just list specific issues that you might see as a problem with the mapsm, that way we can fix them as needed for the Macintosh Ghost Recon Community.  TY

Stripes, there is a way to move out. You just need some frag grenades and some skill. Sometimes, rushing for the nearest door is a bad idea.

Title: Re:*DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: Saberian 3000 on March 28, 2004, 08:53:42 am
Well, Acri.  I must respectfully object to that because it can easily be held off by the smoke owning team.  Unfortunately, these maps, as well as the DAMN BL mappack #1 hasnt been fully tested and unfortunately shouldnt have ever come out until they were "Finished for DAMN BL"  My big issue is that I dont think that a map should be submitted to BL until it is fully tested in every way possible that DAMN BL allows you to require.  There seems to be too many loopholes and whatnot thru the maps and that is why I do plan on working on them asap with Revolt and Eight (God willing now that this issue with BTs and Mp5 is over).  In any event it is my firm belief that these maps because of the new rules of BL should be re-evaluated and dealt with accordingly.  Which I plan on doing now.

As for the Chalet map, yes, that smoke spot has already been changed because of the underground camping issue that was rearing it's ugly head by just the simplest of testing.  Again, this map should have NOT been released as for many of the other maps.  My apologies for being a little upset at this, but let's face it.  With these DAMN BL maps and the new rules there are just too many issues that have become present as of now.  We will be addressing them and fixing them soon.  Most likely before the upcoming season.

:MoD:Saberian

P.S.  I plan on incorporating Bigtex from my clan as well to help with the modding because of his obvious skill in porting adn creating maps for Ghost Recon specifically.  More shortly.

Post by: Revolt on April 26, 2004, 03:37:56 am
As for the maps they have been tested...they have been out far longer than just this season..If you test each map for bugs...They have just as many as any normal ghr map....MP06 Castle is the original demo map and also available in full version yet there are glitches...there still to this day..Does it mean the maps are horrible? No..I mean u could test all you want but point is these maps have been out for over a year in the PC world....and in the ghr world.. You can never fix ever map from bugs.. Like in battlefield you can glitch in bunkers.. But doesn't mean you should... Every map has pros and cons, I have hear peole love and hate almost every map... The  only thing we can really do to maps is mod spawn points...As far as fixing maps.. Why dont we start with mp06 castle... It has glitches and faults as well.. All maps have glitches, bugs, etc...There were additional maps that woulda been on map pack 2 but mauti didnt approve...We can all work together as to where teh spawns should be as we did in map 1.5...That would be great... As far as future maps, next year take the problem by the neck.... And pick out maps....
I mean if 1.5 and 2.0 are not "Finished for DAMN BL" maps...Then why would Mauti release em?.They never will be unless you plan on opening maps in 3d studio max and fixin glitches... You think the Frostbite maps havent been played and tested by top moders in the ghr community? all the maps and mods we have come from PC modders...which are tested tried and true.
All we can do is change spawns....

That would be impossible.... Im not knockin your comment Sab or anyone, just lettin yall know where the maps come from...in map pack 2.0 i aimed at more "ghr style maps"...map pack 1.0 seemed like Counterstrike style maps thus i selected the small, medium, and large maps in map pack 2..which were alot mro e "like " ghr maps... Some of the first maps that woulda been greta additions..Mauti didnt approve.. So I went from there... I never compiled the maps to defy the DAMN admins...I did it to add to the longevity of Ghost Recon!! And together we can all add to make em better... And like Mauti says..if you dont like em dont cb with em!! Its very simple..

New maps are not bad, they jsut need to be learned then they become classics... Peole often do not like what they are not familiar with...

I mean there are maps that i would pick in regular ghr that make most peoples toes curl (Ravine, Valley, Docks Night, Caves, Wilderness), but they are unpopular maps and people dislike bein in a situation they are not familiar with.....

A true soilder (ghost) can adapt to any terrain or circumstance..

I love you all and may Ghost Recon live forever...

And like Mauti says..if you dont like em dont cb with em!! Its very simple..

This is a bad thread for this discussion, so I ask that this goes no further, but revo, here is the counterpoint.
Our finals match against z][t (nothing against them of course) saw a total of three map picks from their side... and the three they picked were maps that by definition one team lost as soon as the spawns were randomly picked. We got lucky once, and won once. Now thats a perfect record, the team which I projected would win based upon the spawn won every time. This isn't a game of ghost, its a game of dice. Some maps should not be in the packs, and a few others should not have domination as an option, simply to make the game possibly go either way instead of being a total rout.

Ara

Title: Re:*DAMN BL Mappack 2.0: Problems / Bug Reports
Post by: Revolt on April 29, 2004, 01:39:27 am
That is true ara, but the same could be said about the small river map which people spawn in the waterfall and its basically instant death from there...Or Red Square when you spawn towards the south east, and your enemy spawns to the northeast... All maps have spawns with advantages and disadvantages....No matter if its the map packs or the original maps...
So in essence, ever game is a roll of the dice... But the real problem, is not the maps, but the spawn points... I am not saying ever map is perfect, cause lets face it, its ghost recon and not a perfect port.. Simple solution is to do like we did last season on that map pack and change spawns accordingly...Sab, Bigtex, and you all can change em as you see fit... I have been busy with work and I have not had the chance the fix them... If you guys could figure out spawns that would be equal for all, Please do so...

In the end it's not who's right, but what's right... And if spawns are at not equal.. All we have to do is make em so they are!!

Very valid points are made in this post and it's not a flame thread, just a way to make our league better!! we can all agree on that...

Aramarth, if you are referring to Prison, I can assure you it had nothing to do with the spawns. It had to do with several hours of tactical training on that map. We actually cursed because we got the bad spawn points.

And yeah, Reservoir is a deadlock for some spawns if you think inside the box but so are all other maps. The standard urban GhR-map has 1-3 to the three exits from each spawn point, almost always they lead to a shared middle. You can deadlock any map with limited movement.

In my opinion, Reservoir is a map where players get to show what they are made off. If you play Domination, it is even more of a test. That is why I felt cocky and picked Reservoir Domination. Not because I wanted to take advantage of uneven spawns, but simply to rub my team's skill in your face. Ironically, we did the most basic screw up and got totally owned. Serves me right. At any rate, Reservoir Domination is, in my honest opinion, a very tactical map and a lot of elements require lots of team and gunning skills. Sure, I object a bit to the spawn points, but what can you do?

What I can see is that these maps are harder than the old maps for a reason: There are no clich?es! On maps like Embassy, every clan does the same thing. When people are shown new maps, they will actually sit down and develop brand new and hopefully unique tactics. Maybe it will rub off on some older maps and breathe new life into maps like Embassy?

I did not actually recall prison to mind. I don't even want to talk about prison, as it was a map that half my clan had never played. Btw, don't try to talk to me about trying new maps, I'm the guy who loves Ravine and Wilderness. ;)

Some of them sure. What about maps like wilderness or battlefield? Some of the spawns have no bottlenecks whatsoever. These are the maps for domination, not maps which revolve around the control of doorways. There is a fatal flaw present in being able to win by watching doors! I once proposed a mod similar to domination... it solved this problem, while dom does not. You lose in dom by merely being there, as points accumulate. One team can win by holding only 3/5 of the map!

Not because I wanted to take advantage of uneven spawns, but simply to rub my team's skill in your face. Ironically, we did the most basic screw up and got totally owned.
Hmm, screw up being we trapped you underground. That adds weight to my point. In either case, if you were trying to rub your ability in our face, why did you do it by picking maps on which one team or the other was trapped at their spawn? I don't care how good you are, you show me how it is even possible to win if you spawn underground on reservior. Not to mention, I found a dedust style glitch on the thing.

Sure, I object a bit to the spawn points, but what can you do?
What can we do? Move the spawn points, as was done before. However, the maps are still very compartmentalized (if you know what that means), and thus either side can be trapped without an exit in a heartbeat.

When people are shown new maps, they will actually sit down and develop brand new and hopefully unique tactics.
Totally backwards. There was nothing new in your tactics, it was just a new place to put them. Get to the doorways before they do and nade the door... yeah real genius. It just doesn't agree with me when you can section the opposing team into a small area with minimal effort. This doesn't happen on just the new maps, red square is a good example of the same thing from the old list.

For a better example of what I mean, think of seige on vilnius. The defense gets the spawn where the .50 cals are. I rarely if ever saw an offense succeed, because it is so obvious how to stuff up the few entrances. Now take this, change it to domination and invert it, such that the defense must get out before the offense has too many domination points to be overcome and the offense is covering the exits. Sounds like absolute murder, and that is what I am trying to combat in several maps. I don't care how much skill you think it takes to run to 3 locations on the map and train your gl on a door, I think it creates sh**ty gameplay. It is pretty hard to call the winner every time you spawn on a map, but I did so every time we played certain maps in that cb.

What I can see is that these maps are harder than the old maps for a reason: There are no clich?es!
I argue the exact opposite, these new maps are easier, given certain spawns, not harder. They are maps more suitable for raven shield, like the counterstrike they came from. Heck, just imagine how cheesy raven would be with an oicw/gl. Indoor maps are destroyed gameplay-wise when you introduce grenade launchers and the instant knowledge of your enemy's spawn (courtesy of your map and the dom smoke). Ghost recon should really be played on maps with rolling hills and broken terrain (2.0 maps anyone?), leaving buildings to raven. How many of the cd released ghost missions, after all, are on small maps?

Very interesting post, Aramarth. I must agree with you that rolling hills and broken terrain is indeed very fun. Cave is a very nice map, imo, however the spawns are a bit odd. Not to mention z][t's passion for Tank :D
