Title: Bush: U.S. Must Protect Iraq From Terror
Post by: "Sixhits" on August 31, 2005, 12:14:55 am
"President Bush on Tuesday answered growing anti-war protests with a fresh reason for American troops to continue fighting in Iraq: protection of the country's vast oil fields that he said would otherwise fall under the control of terrorist extremists."

Yeah, all our boys and girls got killed for oil. He said it, I didn't.

I wouldn't mind my gas prices being slightly lower than what they are now.

Just as long as your not the one dying for them.

When people join the army they know exactly what they are getting into.  They know they are going to have to go to war and fight for they're country whatever the reason is.  If they objected to it they wouldn't be over there would they?  They had a choice to join the army its not like they were drafted.  You should be greatful for them and that they are out there and not you.

I love the smell of ignorance in the morning.

More than 40% of the combat troops in Iraq are members of the National Guard, whereas in Vietnam the number was less than 3%. Most of these young people singed up for one-weekend a month and two-weeks a year for the sole purpose of financing their college careers.

And if they objected to going to war they would face criminal charges according to military law.

Yes indeed it is an all volunteer army as of now, but what you don't hear about is the 'back-door draft' where soldiers are forced to serve longer than what they singed up for, the Pentagon calls it their 'Stop-loss' program. Also even if you have been retired form the military for a number of years you can be called up again and forced to serve if for example you have experience with translating Arabic.

By no means am I trying to diminish their contributions, simply pointing out that it's the old men who talk about wars and the young men who fight them.

The human life this conflict has consumed is not worth you or I having 5 cent cheaper gas prices. Also the Iraq oil fields are in such utter disrepair that actually utilizing those resources for the American market is not feasible.

PS. I'm sure the troops in combat now would love for us to be happy that they are there and we are not, but my inclination tells me they would prefer if we got off our asses and took some action to see that they get home ASAP.

See, you have it half right. The soldiers volunteer for duty and commit to doing said duty, regardless. But you forget that we as citzen owe them a single debt: we ask them to fight and die for us in conflicts that are valuable. We don't send them to die for a whim, or without an honest reason. We have a duty to them just as they have volunteered to defend us. And that is where people like you fail your soldiers - you think fighting and dying is all they are good for. Real Americans know better. WHY they are a fighting is the most important thing of all.

I do not believe this war fits any of these criteria.

Well, regardless of the many outlooks on the war, I can say this " I believe in our troops, but not in the mission" No matter what our personal beliefs are, we still need to pray for the troops..those cats are dealin with shit we could never imagine.

A moment of silence plz........................................................

Bless the men and women who die daily...and prayers to all the families.

Kilz

I think I speak for all of us when I say we do believe in our troops... the mission is a whole different story, I believe in this mission about as much as I believe in George Bush...

btw kilzo. I can't seem to take you seriously with an icon like that ::lol::

A mission to protect the Iraqi people?

I think Bush and his troops is way too kind, it's time they find a new country to "protect"

Whatever.. this is just my stupid opinion, i'm not into war, i really aren't and that's why i hate bush.
