Title: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: BTs_Lee.Harvey on June 08, 2005, 09:51:56 am So now that apple and itell have made it official.. what do you guys think.. Personaly.. I'm still not sure...
Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 08, 2005, 01:26:15 pm I said great, but not for the reason listed. January at MWSF they will intro the machines (they said shipping before WWDC 2006). We'll know for sure what's up at that time. AT MW-Paris this fall we can look forward to more on leopard and probably iPod 5th Generation.

As long as I can run mac OS X on it its cool by me. And as long Mac OS X stays Mac only. I don't want no frickin wannabes hanging around here. ;D
Btw who was complaining when they switched from Motorola to IBM? It was a major change aswell. The only thing I'm a bit scared about is that Apple is gonna focus on consumer Macs instead of prosumer Macs... (or low-end Macs instead of High-end Macs) And why Intel and not AMD? AMD is leading the 64bit battle for the moment... Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on June 08, 2005, 03:19:35 pm Well, not really fair to bring in the Motorola to IBM argument...PowerPC is a processor with three parent companies (Apple, IBM, and Motorola). So they just let one of the other members of the PowerPC team make processors. As for going to Intel, no, it won't make macs any cheaper (the Pentium 4 processor is actually more expensive than the current G5 processor). I'm sure Apple isn't going to be sticking mainstream Pentium chips inside macs. More than likely Apple will force Intel to make high-end processors just for them...and I would assume those new chips will be 64-bit (would be a real waste to step back down to 32-bit). So don't think Apple is just gonna start shipping macs with Pentium 4 processors in them.
As long as it's the mac operating system and Apple designed computers for "looks" it won't bother me that much. I just hope they do it smart and keep the macs on the upper-end of the performance curve. Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: c| Lone-Wolf on June 08, 2005, 06:11:39 pm P.S. Post by: l ! l Ross on June 08, 2005, 07:02:57 pm I think its a good move for Apple. IBM hasn't been able to get the 3Ghz yet and its been over a year.
I think there could be good and bad things for mac gaming but I think we will all come out on the other side better than we are now. Its still not the end of the G5. I think there will defiantly be one or maybe two more updates before the G5 is history (so we will see a 3Ghz G5). Ross Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 08, 2005, 09:33:46 pm To GS,
Though the Intel is more expensive per chip, they produce in mass so they can sell much cheaper. Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: BFG on June 08, 2005, 10:25:39 pm I couldn't find the "Im not happy about this i want all the info before i pass judgment!" option ;)
So on the positive it removes a lot of nasty problems regarding porting etc... but it doesn't solve things like DirectX which is still the biggest and nastiest problem for porting games i believe. It does however mean that networking problems should be history and also there are no technical obstacles to providing middle-ware such as Havok. Like Sent Im worried about the high end market... We desperately need some new beefed up machines and i was really holding out on the Duel core G5s that we kept hearing about. If we're talking about f*cking Pentium 4 chips well im just going to go slam my head in the door. If we are talking about a custom 64 bit Chip specificly for apple then its a different matter and im not worried if its IBM or Intel that supply them (as long as we don't get that mother f*cking ugly intel logo stuffed on our box's! ;) ) As GS said i don't think they can return to 32bit - that really would be suicide. We need some new macs which really pack a power punch and reaffirm these computers as seriously powerful and the obviouse choice for Creative pros etc. If we see 32bit pentium chips in these macs then i guess we wave that goodbye... im hoping and praying we don't! ps... im not sure what is stopping OSX from not being Mac only anymore now??? Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: Civrock on June 08, 2005, 10:35:30 pm Apple. and to Intel-Macs... 1. they won't use the Pentium 4, 2. Intel has 64bit supporting chips and 3. also dual- and multi-core ones...
some people without clue should stop talking and confusing people, sorry... Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: bronto on June 08, 2005, 10:49:00 pm apple is too exclusive to use any hardware that a pc would use...they must have more powerful things otherwise there's no incentive to buy mac.
Title: Re: Macs with intell.... what do you think? Post by: Civrock on June 09, 2005, 12:19:11 am yes, the OS and the hardware-architecture which will be from Apple as always.
