I've heard from CD(C*****Dancer) that he has a ruptured spleen, flailed lung, closed head injury, and lots of broken stuff. The doctors said he might not make it, but let's hope they are wrong...

So I'll just say that as bad as the situation has been described, all we can do is pray and hope. Of course, if Grifter is anything besides a genuinely good guy, he is stubborn. as an update, there's not much change so far. ?grifter hasn't responded or woken up yet from the accident. ?the doctors are not giving much hope right now. the eeg did show some brain function, which is a good thing. ?he's not a vegitable. his wife, parents and a good friend are all there now, with him. ?i'm going to take care of things around here for him and danielle, and try to get down there in a day or so. ?but i know he'd rather make sure that his dogs are ok, and things are good up here then just have me pacing and punching holes in walls down there. ? i know he has many friends and people that care about him, so when i hear anything, i'll post it online. -deadeye Title: Re: grifter in critical condition - no joke Post by: Brain on July 16, 2002, 11:36:26 pm you know, when i saw the last modified by box for this thread read grifter, i thought that there had been a minor miracle. but no, not yet :(

It is an ignored organ that is on the left side of your diaphragm...not the backbone. People have splenectomies (sp?) all the time and they can lead a normal life afterwards. A splenectomy (sp?) is the procedure in which they remove the spleen.

The spleen is an organ located in the upper left part of the abdominal cavity. It functions as a part of the immune system. The spleen is used for: ?filtering out foreign organisms that infect the blood ?removing old or damaged platelets and red blood cells ?storing extra blood and releasing it as needed ?forming some types of white blood cells BTW the proper spelling is s-p-l-n-e-c-t-o-m-y, and 1% of the population is spleenless. It is not a vital organ, though at first grift's resistance to infection will be lowered. The good news is that eventully organs such as the liver can take over the responsibilities of the spleen. So, while some of you thought that removing his spleen would paralyze him, luckily you are incorrect. My prayers are still with you and your family Grift. Hang in there.
